CALL TO ORDER The Meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. on February 9, 2017 by Chief Ken Curtis 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Chief Ken Curtis Led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF January 12, 2017: Secretary Paul Martin had distributed the minutes of the January 12, General Membership Meeting to the membership via for review. Due to a printer malfunction, hard copies of the minutes were not available to the membership MOTION by Don Mott and SECOND by Steve Reeder to accept the minutes as written from the meeting of January 12, Correspondence - The organization received the following correspondence for this meeting: a. Thank You note from the Duran Family for the donation of the Hall s use for the reception for their father s funeral. b. Sharon Forster Badge 685 inactive 2017 Dues check for $25.00 c. American Cancer Society - Request for donation $15 to$ FINANCIAL REPORT of January, 2017 Treasurer Sue Simons reviewed the profit and loss statements for January, 2017 as well as total earnings and losses for year to date. The required end-of-year audits have been completed and filed. She also reminded the membership that annual dues are now due and payable and will become delinquent March 1, INCOME: $ EXPENSES: $ NET BALANCE: $ (682.99) CHECKING ACCT: $ MKT RATE SAVINGS: $ MOTION by Don Mott and SECOND by Char Opperman to accept the financial report as presented subject to the required audit from the month of January, 2017.

2 2 6. REPORTS OF COMMITTEES & CHAIRS: a. Sergeant-at Arms - Mark Gurvitz said: There are present 13 Active Members; 1 Wooden Badge Member, and 11 Active Life Members b. Armorer Don Mott, Alt. Paul Martin No Report c. Hanging Chairman Doug Stidvent: - Upcoming hangings are: i. March 3, 4 for the Kiwanis Club at the Windermere Hotel in Sierra Vista, Arrive at 7:00 pm for the 7:30pm event. As of now he has 5 men and 3 women signed up. ii. April 7, at the Longhorn Restaurant in Tombstone for the Red Hat Society. Arrive at 5:30 pm for the 6:00 pm event. As of now he also has 5 Men and 3 women signed up. iii. April 24, at the Tubac Golf Resort, for Techmer PM. As of now he has 10 men and 4 Women signed up to participate. This will be a high dollar amount for the Vigilantes treasury if we can get enough members to participate. Chief Ken Curtis added that the amount could total up to $800.00, and for that amount he could see us renting a van to get more members to and from the event. d. Show Director Monica Yoho: Reminded everyone that February is a very busy month with two Sunday Shows and Vigilante Days on the horizon e. Membership Chairman Gary Spessard: said the membership rolls stand at: i. Active Members 16 ii. Active Life Members -17 iii. Associate Members 27 iv. Inactive Members 7 v. Inactive Life Members 47 Total Members 116 Members are also reminded that annual dues are now payable. f. Parade Chairman Doug Stidvent: Yielded to Ben Byrd, who made an impassioned appeal for the Vigilantes to participate more fully in the upcoming Wild West Days Parade and events on 18 & 19 March, The event is sponsored by the Wild West Detachment Marine Corps League of Tombstone, and is a salute to the men and women of the armed forces. His point was well taken that if we are to expect more participation and cooperation from other groups with our events, we need to participate more in their events. Chief Ken Curtis commended Ben on his extremely hard work for Vigilante Days and other efforts related to our mission as Ambassadors of Tombstone. Treasurer Sue Simons put forth the following motion: MOTION by Sue Simons and SECOND by Don Mott to give a donation of $100 to the USO as part of our participation in Wild West Days. Heywood Mitchell questioned the donation, given the low turn-outs and low level of donations to the organization in the recent past. Chief Ken Curtis pointed out the fact that existing donations to organizations are being evaluated by the Board for potential dropping, due to other factors, and this

3 3 donation would not pose an issue to our resources. Heywood Mitchell withdrew his objection. g. Publicity Chairman Doug Stidivent: No report (see remarks in Vigilante Days Update.) h. Vigilante Days Chairman Ben Byrd; Report under Unfinished/ Old Business i. Tombstone Vigilettes - Sue Simons commended the Vigilettes help with last weekend s shows. They worked hard to support us and even took part in one of our skits. j. Good, Morale, & Welfare: - i. Chief Ken Curtis asked the group to keep Ruth and Ben Brodin in their prayers and that Ben s illness was on the brink. He mentioned that they had been forced to sell of their horses and other things to meet the climbing hospitalization expenses. ii. Judy Miller reported on Jeff Miller s progress and said that it was looking better but there was still a long road ahead and to keep him in our thoughts and prayers. He will be undergoing surgery again in the first part of March. iii. Heywood Mitchell noted that he was going into the hospital for heart surgery next week, and would be out of action for quite a while afterward. We wish him a speedy recovery. iv. Chief Ken Curtis announced that his sister-in-law has been hospitalized with stage 5 cancer and for everyone to keep her in their prayers. v. Monic Yoho announced that her son & his wife had lost their baby. Thought and prayers are appreciated. vi. Bill Cussins provided some discount flyers for this year s Renaissance Fair in Gold Canyon, Arizona. 7. CHIEF S ANNOUNCEMENTS/DIRECTIVES a. Turn in of Armorer s badges. b. Turn in of keys and new key procedures. c. New signers on organization accounts will be Chief, Assistant Chief, and Treasurer. d. The board has discussed and recommended action on revisions and amendments to Vigilantes By-laws and Standing Rules. The vote on these changes will be held at the March 9 general membership meeting. 8. UNFINISHED/OLD BUSINESS: a. Vigilante Days Update: Discussion on finalized events, committee assignments, and schedule for Vigilante Days February, 2017:

4 4 i. Karl Opperman has the large tent for the street ready to go. ii. Lorelei Redmond The Chili Cook -Off will be held on Allen Street between 4 th & 5 th Street, rather than on the side streets as last time. Judging will be on the street with the Vigilettes and Miss Cochise County. Ben Byrd and Ken Curtis will get the needed cups, utensils and palate cleansers for the event. The question of having cornbread was raised and several members volunteered to make it boxes should suffice. It needs to be brought to the Hall Saturday morning. iii. Chief Ken Curtis announced that the Friday Night set-up will be at 6:00 pm; the Saturday set up at 7-7:30 am; Rehearsals at the park at 9:00am, with a 10:00 am kick off of the events. iv. Armorer Don Mott announced that firearm checks will be held at the park during rehearsals and reminded everyone that if your gun was not checked you would not be able to play NO exceptions! There will be high visibility from the Marshall s Office. v. Doug Stidvent: The auction now has 14 items for sale. He has canvassed communities all the way to Bisbee for donations, and flyers are out all the way to Las Vegas. He recommended that certain high value items be placed in a silent auction with a set reserve amount to prevent undue lost revenue. b. Assistant Chief Ben Byrd again raised the possibility of establishing the Sam Beech Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of excellence and contributions to the organization. Criteria for award to be developed. Sam Beech was the first Vigilante Chief. The idea was generally accepted by the membership, but there was no formal motion or action on it. 9. NEW BUSINESS: a. St. James Catholic School - Augusta KS: Seeking donations to fill out the itinerary for their Family Vacation Auction to our region March 4, Donations may be in any amount or vouchers or gift certificates. Chief Ken Curtis has spoken with them and they agreed to accept a donation of a free hanging for their auction winners in lieu of a monetary donation. This would occur on a regular show day when the winners are present sometime after March 4, b. Letter from Sherry Harrison regarding Sponsorship Opportunity for 88-CRIME American Cancer Society - Request for donation $15 to$250. Chief Ken Curtis has also spoken with them and they agreed to accept a donation of a free hanging for in lieu of a monetary donation for their fund-raising drive. c. MOTION FOR DISCUSSION AND/OR ACTION: MOTION by Karl Opperman and SECOND by Doug Novak to combine these two requests into one motion of organization support with donated hangings

5 5 d. MOTION FOR DISCUSSION AND/OR ACTION: American Cancer Society - Request for donation $15 to $250. Has this been a donation in year s past? Treasurer Sue Simons said that this has not been the case and the issue was dismissed. e. MOTION FOR DISCUSSION AND/OR ACTION: Film project of cinematography student at Cochise College: A request has been made by student David Shurtleff for the Vigilantes to support his filming at the historic 1882 Cochise Hotel in Cochise, AZ. The organization was contacted a month ago, about this potential event. It will involve a 15-minute movie, and 5 people are need for the main characters and townspeople. It will take place over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the location. A special vignette of the production will be available to us for publicity use. Since time and date and other details are yet to be determined it was decided to table this issue until the March meeting 10. MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT: MOTION by Monica Yoho and SECOND by Paul Martin to adjourn the February 9, 2017 General Membership meeting. The Meeting was adjourned at 8:02 PM, February 9, 2017
