White, a renowned geologist, energy research specialist, consultant and instructor. Through his geology work, White began to research and collect maps, letters, and other items that related to the early days of the American West. News of the Plains and Rockies is an 8 volume collection that covers the experiences of men and women on the North American frontier from In addition to the 8 primary volumes, White also published a companion volume of 120 additional items to accompany the items in the first 8 volumes. News of the Plains and Rockies is described as a series that systematically brings to light, and concentrates in one place, in original form, the obscure but vital news reports of dozens of adventures from all walks of life, who roamed the early West as it unfolded and as it was first told to the public by the performers themselves. Scope and Contents Note: This collection consists of the research materials and notes for David A. White s News of the Plains and Rockies published in The News of the Plains and Rockies Collection holds annotated versions of letters, newspaper articles, congressional papers, congressional reports, maps, and personal accounts that were published in Plains and Rockies. These annotations and notes formed the commentary sections in the published books. Geographically, the papers cover the western portion of the United States from the Mississippi River west to the Pacific Coast.
