2 Deputy Grand Knight: Pelagio (Jerry) Caolie My Brother Knights, Families and Friends: First, thank you for your hard work and dedication on behalf of our Knights of Columbus. You enable our Council to, again, meet our challenges in September. I am very proud and thankful of our accomplishments. The Knights of Columbus mission of charity is noble. And, service to our fraternal organization, our families, church, and community is important. Second, I know that our schedule in October appears much more challenging because of our Operation HOPE campaign, Respect Life activities, and other activities in the church. But, I am optimistic we will again work together to tackle our missions. I ask you to please review our Fraternal Schedule of Events and the church s bulletin, for opportunities to voluntarily share your time. Finally, let us remember the importance and value of our mission, Charity. I ask each and every one of you Brothers, to continue to support every charitable mission of our Church and our Council. In October, our commitment will again be tested. The Church s Soup Kitchen initiative and the launching of our Operation HOPE campaign will occur. Please give total support to our Pastor, Brother Steve Gearhart, other Knights, and fellow parishioners with the monthly Soup Kitchen program. Further, we need every help we can gather to support Brother Lenny Tittle for the Operation HOPE campaign. Please review announcements regarding our Operation HOPE campaign. Operation HOPE schedule in October includes: October 5: Yard Sale, Church parking lot October 11-13: Tootsie Roll Store Campaign, Food Lion Store, College Park Road October 17: Auction Night, ICC Community Center October 25-27: Tootsie Roll Store Campaign, Walmart Store, Goose Creek Let us take a moment to recognize our awardees in September: Knight of the Month: SK John Camp Family of the Month: Howard and Dianne Jackson Dear Brother Knights, As you read or listen to the news, what you always hear about is the uncertainty of what is going on in the world. Whether the Middle East, terrorism, the stock market, the debt ceiling or even Obamacare, the world seems to be falling apart. The nice thing about the Knights of Columbus insurance program is there is never something really exciting to talk about. We are always in the top tier of insurance companies in the US. No one has higher safety/security ratings we have the highest possible ratings. If you have your money with the Knights, you simply cannot lose any of it with the Knights. Regardless of the current or future tax rates, life insurance always passes tax free to the beneficiary. It always passes outside of probate. In this crazy world, it s nice to know your Council is like your family and the insurance program is taking care of that family. Just give me a call or drop me a note and we can discuss your needs or your policies in detail. 3 A recap of our activities in September is as follows: September 5: Ian C. Samson and Stephen J. Ekhaml were exemplified to First Degree. Please join me in congratulating and welcoming our two new Knights to our Council. Let us also thank their families for their support for these two gentlemen, which positively encouraged them to become Knights. September 7: Brother Luis Class-Aviles coordinated the annual Soccer Challenge for youth between the ages Brother Knights Juan Avila, Michael Cousino, Benito Padron, and Thomas Arnold, graciously assisted. Congratulations to the following winners of the Soccer Challenge: Age Boys Girls 10 years Vance Kirar No participants 11 years Seth Burke Felicity Masters 12 years Brandon Fowler Kamesha Brown 13 years Dylan Cromer Kayla Riley 14 years Hunter Tillman Rebekah Bennett September 14: Highway Cleanup, led by Brother Paul Reece, was a success. Twenty three bags of garbage items were collected. A hearty thank you to Paul and the teams of road cleaners and kitchen crew who came out to support the event. September 15: Led by Robert Rose, Service Sunday received excellent support from our Council; nonetheless, I highly encourage increased participation from our Knights during this once-amonth support mission for the church. We are fortunate to have family members who religiously support this mission. Thank you to Bob, our Knights and family members who shared their time for the service. The Blood Drive was also a big success. We had twenty seven donors and twenty pints of blood was collected. Thank you to Brother Joe O Saben and the Knights who helped watched the Blood Drive operation. September 19: It could have been merrier and much more productive. Our Social Committee worked very hard in coordinating and setting up the event, which is in support of St. John s School. We had a professional DJ and a variety of classical music. Despite the unexpected low turnout, I am very, very happy and proud of the amount of donated school supplies. Brother Michael Cousino delivered approximately 200 pounds of donated school supplies to St. John s School. Well Done!! Brother Knights, MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER A Weekend of Discovery.. A Lifetime of Love! What a sad age this is in which one makes his First Holy Communion to be through with religion, receives his college degree to be through with study, and marries to be through with love. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen ( ) I would like to strongly encourage you to support the Bishop s initiative on marriage. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend is October in Myrtle Beach. Contact Desmond and Valerie Thomas at (803) for information. Another is scheduled for February 28-March 2, 2014, also in Myrtle Beach. You can also apply online at: scmarriagematters.org. My wife, Lynn, and I participated in a Worldwide Marriage Encounter nearly 37 years (three children and six grandchildren) ago while we were stationed in Spain. It is indeed a life changer and strongly reinforced our commitment to each other and to our God. We have been discussing attending another Marriage Encounter Weekend in February as well. In this case, there is no such thing as too much of a good thing. Vivat Jesus! Michael Cousino PGK (843) A PRAYER FOR FAMILY COMMITMENT Dear God our Father, you have called all Christian families to be a sign of your love for the world. Help us to be generous with the gifts of life and love that you have showered on our families. May we share them so that our homes become true signs of unitive and fruitful love. Let us never forget to thank you each day for all that sustains us and to look to Christ, who comes to us in the events of family life, in the Sacraments of the Church, and in service to the poor. In all of this, our family becomes a living expression of your Church, a hallowed home of life and love. By the power of the Holy Spirit, may all of us spouses, parents, and children share, as members of his Body, in Jesus mission to build a civilization of love. Father, we ask this in Jesus name in union with the Holy Spirit. AMEN 2010, USCCB Washington, DC

4 Thank you to Brother John Flinn and the Knights who supported the Ministries Fair from September 21 st to 22 nd. To me, it was an educational and entertaining experience, meeting and talking with representatives from the various ministries of our church. Our Knights at the Ministries Fair were able to sign up six prospective new Knights; indeed, we conducted two on-site interviews of new candidates that day. Grand Knight Reports: PRAYER Request: Please continue to pray for the healing and full recovery of the following Knights and family members: Loretta Gabriel, John Vohs, Deacon Joe Anonie, Joseph O Rourke, Sal Muscarella, Jim Kelly, Chris Totolo, Diane Jackson, Sarah Trapp, Gene Alaura, John and Cheryl Mallon, and Robert J. Grant, Jr. May Almighty God give them strength, good health and peace. GREAT NEWS: You will now receive REWARDS for recruiting a Knight. This program is awesome. For example, when you recruit two (2) new members, you will be rewarded 1,000 Prize Points (500 points for each member). You can redeem your points for valuable items such as, a beautiful red rose pin for 1,000 points; garment bag with K of C emblem for 2,500 points; water repellant jacket with K of C emblem for 8,500 points, and many other items. Please contact our Membership Director John Flinn or Steve Gearhart, for more details regarding this program. For the Unborn Child: Support the Respect Life Program and Initiatives. October is a Rosary Month. Join the Rosary prayers in the church and at the Abortion Clinic at 1312 Ashley River Road (corner of 61 and Fuseler). Please read the Church Bulletin for continuous announcements concerning Respect Life Rosary prayers and other events. Thank you for your generosity and kind support. Sincerely and Fraternally Yours, Jerry Caoile Grand Knight, Council Deputy Grand Knight: John Mallon, PGK, PFN Schedule of Events and Opportunities: 2 October: 40-Days for Life Prayer Vigil w/ Bishop Guglielmone at Women s (Abortion) Clinic 7 p 3 October: Business Meeting 7 pm Community Center 5 October: Ladies Guild Trash and Treasure Yard Sale 8 am to 1 pm 6 October: Goose Creek Life Chain at Church 2:30 3:30 pm My Brothers in Christ... COMMUNITY As your Advocate, I have been discussing opening a new web site for our Council with my fellow Officers and Directors. Brother Russ and Deacon Larry gave us a presentation at the last O&D meeting and I firmly support the launch of this web site for our Council. I have been struggling for a while to get our by-laws posted for the membership to review and this vehicle fits the bill. We can upload information immediately for membership review and add tons of other things. The O&D voted to present the proposal at our next Business Meeting scheduled for October 3rd, so please be present to witness the discussion and to cast your vote! For those who would like a preview of the presentation to be more informed for the discussion, follow the link below to see what exciting capabilities the web site might offer to the advancement of our Council. Paste the link into your browser and have a look-see. Imagine it being our own: As your Community Director, I am ramping up for the next six weeks that will form the very core of our annual Operation HOPE fund-raising activities. We have the season opener with the ICC Trash & Treasure Yard Sale where the Knights will be selling stuff and pedddlin' food. We did great last year at this event and hope it will be a success again this year. We seem to have a full crew but we can always use more help. Saturday October 5th from Come out and sell with us! If you have items to donate, bring them in with you or call me to come pick them up. Now is the chance to clean out the garage! We have three Tootsie Roll drives scheduled in the coming weeks and again, if you promise to support us with your time, I will do everything in my power to spread these events out over the next fraternal year. The dates are the weekends of October 12th at Food Lion and October 25th at Walmart followed again at Walmart the weekend of November 1st. Please help us out. I will have the signup sheets with me at the Business Meeting. The Auction on Thursday October 17 is shaping up! Gene and Sophia will ramrod a wonderful meal and Harold and I are beating the bushes for some interesting stuff! New for this year I have a one hour flying lesson that includes ground school and time in a flight simulator. No John Mallon, they will not let you fly a real twin-engine Beech King Air thing in the first hour!

Please continue your efforts in this endeavor. A big part of membership is retaining those that have joined us. We need to get all the members involved and keep them involved, but also important is making the feel welcome. At our activities it is not unusual to see the new knights and families sitting by themselves. Remember we are a fraternal brotherhood and should seek to get to know each other and the family members. We will be presenting the new Knights and their families at the first social after they have taken their 1 st degree. john.flinn@comcast.net Reminder: Carry a Form #100 in your wallet at all times. John Flynn, PGK Membership Director GIVE A STAMP OF APPROVAL The council is still collecting stamps for the nuns in Indiana. We are close to having filled the 2 nd box. The nuns are very happy that we are collecting stamps for their Feed the Hungry program. While we are approaching the fourth box, donations seem to have dropped off. I ask that you talk with your neighbors, friends and family to get their help in collecting stamps. It doesn t matter where the stamps are from or how many of the same stamps there are. Every stamp brings us closer to sending another box of them their way. I want to thank each and every one of you that have contributed stamps. I find it very worthwhile each time that I am able to place a stamp in the box and I know that by doing this I and those that contributed are helping the nuns to feed individual all over the world. If you have a business that receives regular mail with stamps please think about saving these stamps also. They don t have If you know local vendors you do business with, then ask them if they would be interested in making a donation. Contact me and I will give the write-ups you can keep handy with your form 100s. No gift is too small. Brothers can also purchase items for the suction or make cash donations. Get involved! If I can talk with these people and get them to donate then you certainly can. Pitch in! Be a part of this and make a difference! Part of this intense schedule is the glorious spin-off that I will be socializing and hob-nobbing through the entire schedule with you my Brother Knights! Peace-Lenny RESPECT LIFE 40 Days for Life has started. There are still many openings that need to be filled. I know that many of you work and have a lot to do, but one or two hours a day for the next 40 days might save the life of a baby. Please consider going to the clinic and praying the rosary. The Immaculate Conception Youth Group is really getting involved. They have received training and are visiting the prolife clinics. They have banners and flags made up and will participate in the Life Chain on October 6 th. My brother knights I know that the next few months will be busy for us, but we have opportunities to do something for our Bishop, Pastor, Community and ourselves. That is to participate in Right to Life activities at our church and in our community. Please make time to participate in at least one of the activities if not all of them. I know that we are all busy, but I believe that we must show that we support life from conception to natural death. Here are some of the opportunities : October 2: Bishop Gugliolmone will lead a Rosary Vigil at 7:00 PM at the Abortion Clinic, 1312 Ashley River Road (corner of 61 and Fuseler). Please join the prayers. October 6: Life Chain 2:30, curbside in front of the church October 19: Rosary Prayer at the Abortion Clinic, 1312 Ashley River Road, 8 am October 26: Immaculate Conception Church s 40 Days of Life watch abortion clinic. Come and join the prayers..
