Look for more information about Janet in the March Joyful Noiz. Joyful Noiz February 2018 Pastor s Page The Gatherings News ~ It s NOT too late to join us for Kid s club. We are starting preparations for the Annual Kid s Derby. Hope to see you on February 6 & 20! New in 2018 Celebrate your Birthday with Zion! The Joyful Noiz is published monthly by Zion Mennonite Church. The editor is Jennifer Moyer. Contributors this month included: Beth Rauschenberger, Suzanne Gunden, Yvonne Detweiler, Mike Landis, Tim Groff, Sonya Stauffer Kurtz, Bekki Dibble, Laura Martin, Lito Reinoso, Eric Musselman. Stories and information for the newsletter can be submitted to Jennifer via <jenn@zionmennonite.org> or left in the mailbox marked Joyful Noiz in the church office. Next Deadline: February 11, 2018 Beginning on Sunday, February 11, Roger and I invite you to join us for a Birthday Potluck Lunch every other month in The idea behind the Birthday Potluck Lunches is two-fold: to give Roger and I a chance to get to know more people over a relaxed lunch, and to provide a place for different configurations of people to get to know one another in our congregation. By doing a potluck, we hope to make the lunches not too much work for anyone. The guidelines are very relaxed you are invited to join us in Fellowship Hall for lunch on Feb 11 if you or someone in your family has a birthday in January or February. Sign up on the clipboard outside Fellowship Hall so we have an idea how many tables and chairs to set up, and how big of a birthday dessert to provide! Or show up at the last minute and take your chances! Enjoy these potlucks while they last they are a one-year-only social event hosted by Zion s own Fellowship Committee. I hope to see you there! 5 Joyful Noiz February May Page Page Recipes Worth Sharing Cream Cheese Danish ================================== INGREDIENTS: 2 cans of refrigerated crescent rolls. 8 ounces cream cheese; softened 1 can of cherry pie filling 2/3 cup sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla For the Glaze: 1/3 cup powdered sugar 2 teaspoons milk INSTRUCTIONS: Combine the glaze ingredients together until smooth and set aside until the Danish is baked and cooled. Open the packages of crescent rolls, but do not separate them. Using a serrated knife, slice each "roll" into 11 equal pieces. Using your thumb or the back of a spoon, gently indent the middle of each circle so there is a space for the cream cheese to be placed inside. Arrange the crescent circles on a cookie sheet. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, sugar and vanilla. Place a small spoonful of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each crescent circle. Then place a small spoonful of the cherry pie filling on top. You will not use all the cherry pie filling. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for minutes. Let cool and drizzle with the glaze. 6 Joyful Noiz February May Page Page 6 6 ten Facts About Snowflakes 1. The word snowflake is often used to refer to what s technically a snow crystal. Snowflakes can be made up of hundreds, or even thousands, of individual now crystals. 2. Almost all snowflakes are six-sided, or hexagonally symmetrical. 3. It s virtually impossible for two naturally occurring snowflakes to be exactly alike. 4. The shape of a snowflake is determined by atmospheric factors such as temperature and humidity. Sticking out your tongue to catch a few falling flakes is fine, but eating snow off the ground is a bad idea, as it may contain pathogenic substances. 6. In the 19th century, an American named Wilson Bentley developed method for photographing snowflakes in great detail with the help of a microscope. 7. In 1951, the international Commission of Snow and Ice devised a system for categorizing snowflakes according to this classification: plates, stellar crystals, columns, needles, spatial dendrites, capped columns, and irregular forms. 8. Snow crystals grow the fastest in temperatures around 5 F, but no one knows why.
