MICHAEL CASE Priest-in-Charge Dear People of Holy Nativity, I hope you have been finding ways to keep cool in this heat. It seems like only yesterday we were worried about how we were going to deal with the unusual amount of snow. But as always, the seasons change and before we know it we will be dealing once again with cold weather. The same is true for our church year. We are making our way through Pentecost, but before we know it Advent will be upon us and the beginning of a new liturgical year. But for now, we are in the green or ordinary time of Pentecost. We call Pentecost the ordinary time. But in truth, it is a time to really meditate on the message of the Gospel and what it means to be Christian. We have heard the stories from Advent through Easter, and now we have the chance to live into that message as deeply as we allow the Spirit to take us. At Holy Nativity, we are in the process of identifying our ministries to see how they are functioning, and to explore potential new paths. This is in preparation for a Ministry Fair to be held in September. There you will be able to find information on each ministry, including ways to become involved. Perhaps August could function as a month of discernment. What new adventure is God calling you to? As always, the Spirit continues to call us to live deeper into the mission of the church. With God s help, and the help of our church community, we can find new ways to answer that call. In Christ s love, Michael+

2 Senior Warden s Report Hope you all are having a wonderful summer. I can t believe it is already August and the children will be going back to school soon. I know that most of you have heard about Kayla Barkdull fighting a very severe infection and being in very serious condition. She is getting better, according to Fr. Michael. Fr. Michael and Sue Pahlas have been keeping us up to date on her condition. They both have been checking on her every day. I am sure with all the prayers she will be back with us soon. On September 24 th, we are having a Ministry Fair after church in the Parish Hall. We spent a lot of time identifying the different ministries that we have here at Holy Nativity and who the persons are that oversee the ministries. Fr. Michael will be sending out more information on this to the people that oversee the different ministries. I hope that everyone that wants to, will find a ministry that they would like to join. Carrie and I thought with the high temperatures that we were having in July that it would better to have the picnic in September. Also, maybe more will be able to attend since vacations should be over and the children are back in school. Enjoy the last of your summer. Blessings, JoAnn 2 June Vestry Highlights By JoAnn Myers, Senior Warden Treasurer s report-donna Lofton Mike was absent so Donna read the notes that he gave her. We are still doing well financially considering it is the middle of summer and we have had some large expenses. The new roof on the rectory has been paid for, but we still have some expensive projects ahead. Vestry Reports Building and Grounds- Jo Ann Myers (Phil was absent) --The mower was fixed.the tires needed repair. -- The apartments next to the church put up a new fence. A man had called Jo Ann to see if we would pay for part of it. She told him to send her a bid and we would present it to the Vestry. We have not heard from him. Office-Cindy Wolfenbarger --Microsoft has changed the way to pay for the Office Software. Richard Bowring used his credit card and will be reimbursed. He asked if we could just put the church credit card on that account and it would be paid automatically ever year. The Vestry agreed that we could do that. --Cindy shared that she found out what is needed to make the old copier in the library work. She will try to find a counter on line or ask the lady at AOS if she can help. --Cindy will take the parts of the reader board to the sign shop and get new ones made. She will ask how much a digital sign would cost Clay will fix the office deadbolt next Sunday. He also is fixing the flat tire on the Chair trolley.

3 June Vestry Highlights Continued from page 2 Fellowship-Mary Buchanan The chairs all need shampooing again before July 16 th when there is an event in the parish hall. Mary asked if she could get some help. We discussed replacing the chairs with some that are easier to clean. Mary will do some research. Action Items: 1. Youth Ministry-Christy Fendley --The formation of the youth program is still a priority. Christy will do some research for curriculum. 2. Ministry Fair -- It has been suggested that we have a ministry fair this fall. This is an opportunity for all the ministries to be presented to the congregation. They will be able to sign up and ask questions. We set a date for Sept. 17 th after church that Sunday. The meeting ended at 7:50 pm with all praying the Lord s prayer. MERIDIAN FOOD BANK NOTES By Richard Jones Your Meridian Food Bank is located at 133 W Broadway in Meridian. This vital local ministry is open on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. A recent week saw 243 patrons (26 new clients) served, representing 1195 household members. Your food bank is an all-volunteer effort with no paid positions. Over 150 volunteers support day-to-day operations for both the Food Bank and School Backpack Program. The Meridian Food Bank is dependent on people like you to provide monetary and food donations, and of course, to volunteer. There are dozens of important roles for volunteers, including date checking all donated food, or handing out bread, meat, produce, dairy products, and other needed supplies, or picking up food donated from local stores such as Fred Meyer, Albertsons, Boise Co-op, Rosauers, Subways, and Starbucks. There were over 2400 hours provided by volunteers last month, with some people choosing to provide a few hours a week and some volunteering support several days a week. Please take a minute to notice the new drop off point for your donations inside the entrance of the Parish Hall. You are encouraged to pick up a flyer at the new location which will give you more information about this important ministry. Please also notice the opportunity to provide specific needs by taking one of the cards off the poster in the parish hall. (Thank you Mary Buchanan for your amazing creativity with the poster and drop off area!) 7 Paradise Point Horse Camp The Fendley and Domka families would like to thank all of you at Holy Nativity for your generous contributions to the Paradise Point Camp fund. Because of you, Anna, Claire, and Abby were able to enjoy a week at horse camp. The girls enjoyed spending time at Paradise Point - swimming, playing games, and sitting around camp fires. They also spent a couple of days at Seven Devils Lodge doing all things "horse." They went on trail rides, were taught how to rope, painted the horses, and enjoyed s'mores. The experience was made even greater when Claire discovered that her camp counselor was Kendra Mattson! Thank you again for a wonderful, memorable experience! We hope that all our kids at Holy Nativity take advantage of this amazing opportunity to have a fantastic, summer experience. Claire, Abby and Anna ready to have a great week!
