1 REFLECTIONS Vol. 35 No. 10 October 2017 October Challenge It's not an easy journey, to get to a place where you forgive people. BUT it is such a powerful place, because it frees you. ~Tyler Perry 200 Bellann Court Annville, PA (717)

2 John s Jottings by John Landis, Chaplain Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9 The United States sends our military into areas of the world to be peace keepers. They are there fully equipped with armaments adequate to deter fighting and to keep a measure of peace. They are to protect people so that they can live in peace. The use of force and power is not the best way to have peace. I wish our government could understand this. The true order of the power of law is to give peace and freedom. But, we live in a broken and evil society that doesn t understand, nor does our society have the will to live in peace with one another. What does Jesus want for his children? He wants a people and place where there is security, contentment, goodness, trust, poise, love, harmony, rest, creative freedom, and many more beautiful qualities of life that are enriching one another for the benefit of all and the glory of God. Jesus says these are my children. This is a magnificent family. There is a choice that is ours to make. What do you choose for your life? Remember, Jesus is not teaching an impossible kingdom ethic. As his children we are to realize that this is who Jesus is. He wants us to grow in him and to give ourselves to be like him. It is a choice of who I will follow Jesus or the world? Consider this. It will change our world. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * CCC Reflections is published monthly Franklin Schock, Executive Director Amber Carter, Personal Care Administrator Venancia Williard, Director of Nursing Kathryn Youngman, Dir. of Social Services John Landis, Chaplain Countryside Christian Community 200 Bellann Ct. 3 Karen Yingst, Dietary While searching online, this recipe caught my eye. It was on a blog authored by Cookies and Cups. The pictures looked irresistible and I can t wait to try it. Some variations of this recipe suggest adding some melted butter to the brown sugar cinnamon mixture so I might try it both ways. Easy Cinnamon Roll Cake 1 ( ounce) box yellow cake mix 4 eggs ¾ cup vegetable oil 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup sour cream (not light) 1 cup light brown sugar 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 2 cups powdered sugar 3 tablespoons milk Preheat the oven to 325 F. Coat a 9x13 pan with nonstick spray and set aside. In the bowl of your stand mixer combine the cake mix, eggs, oil, vanilla and sour cream. Mix on low for 30 seconds and then raise the speed to medium and mix for 2 minutes, scraping the sides of the bowl as necessary. Spread the cake batter into your prepared pan. In a medium bowl whisk together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this evenly on top of your cake. Using a butter knife gently swirl the cinnamon sugar into the cake batter. Don't over-swirl, as you want ribbons of the mixture throughout the cake. Bake for minutes or until a toothpick entered into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool cake for minutes. In a medium bowl whisk together the powdered sugar and milk. Pour this over the slightly warm cake. Allow the icing to set, or eat right away!
