Presbyterian Connection November 2015 Volume 22 Issue 11 RECENT FACEBOOK POSTINGS THAT HAVE IMPRESSED ME This is what the Apostle Paul was talking about in Colossians 3:12-17, where he summed it up with these words of encouragement and guidance in verse 17: And whatever you do, in word or deed, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. This is a list of building blocks for our lives that God will reinforce as we live our lives in the footsteps of Jesus. They cannot be bought. We can receive them freely as we live for Jesus a life that is true, Striving to please Him in all that I do. Worshipping the Lord with regularity undergirds all of the above to keep us Strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Ephesians 6:10 God bless! Fred 1

LIBRARY LINES - NOVEMBER 2015 Several books have been donated to the library. One of them entitled WOMEN OF THE BIBLE by Jean E Syswerda is one of the featured books. This study edition of the best -seller WOMEN OF THE BIBLE includes an introduction to each woman, major Scripture passages, study materials, and cultural backgrounds. There are fiftytwo studies, one for each week of the year. Newly gathered study aids include helpful charts as well as a complete listing of all women of the Bible, with pertinent Scripture references. The other new non-fiction book is entitled I DARE YOU by William Danforth and is also a featured book. William H. Danforth founded the Ralston Purina Company in St. Louis, Missouri. He co-founded the American Youth Foundation (AYF) to train young men and women in Christian ideals and help them prepare for a life of responsibility and leadership. As president of the American Youth Foundation, Mr. Danforth helped establish Camp Miniwanca, a 300-acre campsite near Shelby, Michigan that he established while he was president of AYF for the purpose of helping young people. For more than 30 years, up to the time of his death, Mr. Danforth spent his summers at Camp Miniwanca where he met, counseled and inspired thousands of young men and women. He also established the Danforth Foundation as a national educational philanthropy. His passion for helping individuals to fulfill destiny stirred him to write I Dare You. The dominant message of the book proposes that, for an individual to be healthy, the four key components in life need to be in balance at all times Physical, Mental, Social, and Religious. A biography by Dale Evans Rogers entitled THE WOMAN AT THE WELL was donated to the library. "The Bible tells us that we are always to be ready to give reason for the hope that is within us. The greatest joy and privilege of my life has been to do just that--to give my personal Christian testimony wherever and whenever it seemed good or necessary. Hence this book, which has a double purpose: It is intended to be my autobiography, but I am more anxious to have it be my Christian witness." These books will be located on the new book shelf. We also have books that are free for the taking and they are located in the Children s Library on the library cart. Faye Brackett, Librarian 5
MISSION MINUTE NOVEMBER-2015 At Hospice of the Ozarks, it's about YOU. Greg Wood, M.S., L..S.W., Executive Director Core Purpose: To provide compassionate care during the end-of-life journey and for those who grieve. End-of-life care is a cherished and special time for everyone involved and through individualized and exceptional care and support, we help each individual and their loved ones as they fulfill life's journey through the presence of physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, hospice aides, volunteers, and support staff. Hospice care is a philosophy of care to support patients facing their endof-life in the privacy and comfort of their home and surroundings. Hospice of the Ozarks provides hospice care to patients in their own home environment and for patients who should ever need skillednursing care 24 hours a day to help manage symptoms not controlled at home, or if caregivers are in need of relief for a few days, we are proud to offer the services of our Hospice House Inpatient Unit located at 774 Long Street, Mountain Home, AR. Hospice of the Ozarks continues to serve residents of Baxter and Marion Counties in north central Arkansas for over 35+ years and is the only not-for-profit, 501c3 hospice organization and subsidiary of Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. If you would like information, have questions, know someone facing serious illness or someone living with the hidden pain of grief, please stop by our office at 701 Burnett Drive, or call us at or at gwood@hospiceoftheozarks.org. - Submitted by The Mission Committee 6
PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN & MEN General Meeting of Presbyterian Women and Men Please Mark Your Calendars for November 10, 2015 The Presbyterian Women and Men (PW&M) organization of our church is proud to sponsor an allchurch breakfast meeting on November 10 to bring to you the Executive Director of Hospice of the Ozarks, Gregory Wood to speak to us about this invaluable ministry that each of us might have needed in the past or may need in our future. Our life consists of a physical body, mind, and spirit and these three areas are the primary concern and purpose for Hospice of the Ozarks' organization as they walk the journey with those at the end of life. They spend days and nights supporting those who hurt: men, women, and children who are living in the final months of life. Mr. Wood and others at Hospice of the Ozarks want to share the story of what this organization offers and how we can partner in ministry. PW&M has scheduled Mr. Wood to speak at our November 10 monthly meeting of PW&M. We anticipate a larger-than-usual number of men and women from our membership and friends to attend, so we are holding the meeting in our Memorial Hall and will serve a breakfast for all. Our meeting will begin at 9:30 AM with breakfast, then a talk by Mr. Wood, followed by our regular monthly meeting for all who would stay. Please watch your weekly announcements for further information and reservations. PW&M Secretary, Amy Johnson ****************************************************************************************************************** INVITATION FROM PW&M The Presbyterian Women & Men have invited Mr. Gregg Wood from Hospice of the Ozarks in Mountain Home to come and speak to us on November 10, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. This meeting will be open to everyone and a light meal will be served. There will be no charge for the breakfast. The Presbyterian Women & Men have voted to give a donation of $ to Hospice. Mark your calendar now and plan to attend, as our own Pastor Fred Taylor has been on the Hospice Board for about 20 years; What an honor! Remember our friends at the Food Pantry with your donations. Check your Sunday insert. *A sign up sheet is on the office bulletin board. God Bless! Mary Kerr 7
Till We Speak Again Question: I m so happy I could pop. My apple pie won Grand Champion at the county fair. People said it was the best pie they ever tasted. I also won blue ribbons on my quilt, my flower arrangement, my canned green beans, my crocheted afghan and my; Oh there are just to many to mention. I won 27 blue ribbons. I won a blue ribbon on every thing I entered. I was the only one, no one else can say that. I know I m the best homemaker in the county, maybe in the state. Is it wrong to feel this way? Millie: : Dah!!! What to you think?? Pride go eth before the fall! Maybe you got lucky this year, after all the difference between blue ribbon quality and no ribbon quality is one persons opinion, and that changes from year to year. Next year there will be a different judge who may see things a little differently, and the ribbon count may be in someone else s favor. You had better get your pride in check and try a little humbleness and humility because you didn t win anything, God did! You won with God s help. We do everything in Gods name and with Gods help, never on our own, He likes to be thanked and given credit for our accomplishments, and he never wants us to feel better than anyone else. We are all the same in his eyes, we are all blue ribbon quality!! He is my kind of judge!! I do hope that has answered your question. Luv, Millie aka Meg Thought for the Day: Always remember to be thankful..what the Lord gives us he can always take away!! SORRY TO SAY GOODBYE We had to say Goodbye and God Bless! to Dick & Jini Sass at the end of October. Both served the Lord in this Church for many years. Jini was the Key Person, the Lord used to get our Sunday School and Youth program off the ground in the mid s, as well as the Annual Potato Bash. She was currently serving as an Elder on the Session. Dick has been the Church Financial Secretary for many years and currently serves as a Deacon. This only scratches the surface of their service for the Lord in this Church. May God Bless them as they serve Him in their new home in Florida. 8
NOVEMBER PUZZLE 9
RECIPE FOR NOVEMBER Strawberry Icebox Cake Prep Time: 10 minutes 4 hours, 10 minutes Serving Size: INGREDIENTS 3 lbs strawberries, sliced oz box Honey Graham Crackers 3 8 oz tubs Cool Whip INSTRUCTIONS *Each Cool Whip layer uses one whole tub (besides the first thin layer). *Each strawberry layer uses about 1 lb of sliced strawberries. Spread a thin layer of cool whip in a 9x13 pan just to coat the bottom. Layer 5 graham crackers across the center of pan, then 2 more breaking them as needed to fit around the top and bottom edges. Spread a thick layer of cool whip ( just use the remaining cool whip from the first step) over grahams and top with a hearty layer of sliced strawberries. Place graham crackers on top of strawberries, then cool whip, then strawberries. Repeat the layers 1 more time (3 times total) and you should reach the top of the pan. I used 3 layers of each + the first thin layer of cool whip. You will finish with a layer of sliced strawberries. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight until the graham crackers have softened completely. Serve chilled. 10
