I have many negative thoughts going through my head but I am trying to block those out and look at the positive side of life. I hope I can accomplish this task and that it makes you contemplate and develop your own ideas. Use this as a springboard to great memories. First and foremost are my mixed emotions on the changes that are happening and those that are yet to come to our Church and to a greater extent to the entire Catholic Church and Religion. I promised to be positive so I will pick out a gem amidst all of the rhetoric and negativism. Fr. Al - Now that s a positive pillar that you can build upon. We have had the joy of sharing many years with him. I know from talking with many of you that Fr. Al has added Peace, Comfort, Support and Joy to your life - in good and bad times. Over the last 3 years my Family and I have had the pleasure to get to know Fr. Al much better and he has brought Peace, Serenity, Compassion and Strength to us. He has been there to aid and reassure us in sorrowful times and he has been there to celebrate with us in joyous times. I can t thank him enough for showing me how to be a more patient person - I am still working on this Father. His words have stayed with me and I pray for that understanding and compassion daily. His strength and strong moral character are hidden behind his soft calming voice. He gets your attention and teaches without being loud and boisterous. For those of you reading this (hopefully more than just me) I ask you to sit back and reflect on your personal interactions with our Chaplain. I am sure you will find a smile coming across your face and a great memory or two running through your brain as you recall a personal conversation, a funny little story, or one of his lighthearted jokes. All of these, when you think about them, were teaching moments for him. He always made the best out of any situation. He definitely speaks softly but carries a big stick (His true Love of God & teaching others how to Love). In the last 3 weeks we have with Fr. Al, our Spiritual Leader, lets really embrace his teachings, his humor, but mostly lets embrace the Heart & Sole of a True Man of God. We need more like him as our Faith Leaders. We will all be better people and religiously enlightened by his presence and teachings. Fr. Al we wish you the best in your new role, we are confident that you will be a fair and compassionate Administrator to your new flock. We will miss you and are saddened that you are leaving. It is God s Will that these changes are occurring and we pray that one day to be reunited with you as our Pastor. God Bless You & Keep You Safe. VIVAT JESUS, Duane Cardamone, Grand Knight MISSSION STATEMENT Our Lady of Joy Parish, Knights of Columbus Council #12219, is a brotherhood of Catholic gentlemen. The Council provides an opportunity for fellowship with men who hold the same beliefs, values and priorities in life and in God. We are dedicated to the support of our brothers, their families, our parish, the community, our country and the Catholic Faith. Our charitable work, worship and devotion are unified as we focus on the four principles of our Order; Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

2 FROM THE CHAPLAIN (Note: Since Fr. Al was very busy this week with moving, meetings and the 50 th Anniversary celebration, I took the liberty of using his From the Pastor article in the September 30 issue of our church bulletin.) Today we conclude the month of September, and it is hard to believe, I know. Our readings today call us to see ourselves as an important part of the Body of Christ. But if a part of the Body causes us to sin, cut it off, or pluck it out, because it would be better to enter eternal life crippled than to be thrown into Gehenna, (the place of eternal fires and sufferings) where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. No member of the body can presume to get along without the others, meaning we need to see each other member, each other part of the Body of Christ, as an important part that will lead us to be a complete Body, a complete Church, a complete being of love. All together we manifest the fullness of the presence of the Lord to the world. So let us love one another and accept one another as the Lord loves and accepts each of us. Thanks to all who came to my party last week. Also, may the Lord pour down special graces and peace upon the entire parish during this 50 th ANNIVERSARY YEAR. As we finish September, we are now in the autumn season, and the leaves are turning colors and the air is cool, but the beauty of creation is all around us. October is the month of the ROSARY, and since we have the beautiful travelling painting of OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE, let us spend some time honoring our Blessed Mother with prayers and thanks. This week, October 4 th, I celebrate my 38 th year to the priesthood; I have been blessed knowing you. Also, that day Bishop Zubik will be here to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for the young people of the parish. Some people have asked me that since I will be the ADMINISTRATOR of the parishes in Monroeville and Penn Hills, will I still have masses. Yes. I would be the acting Pastor, but besides what I do now, I have to make sure all masses are planned, people are living in their rectories, places are cleaned, and people are nice??? But anyway, I will be having masses and confessions and joy and hope and love from the Lord. Please keep me in your prayers. GOD BLESS YOU, YOUR CHAPLAIN, FR. 6 ACTIVITY PLANNING SCHEDULE We have a very active Council. When too many activities and events occur in the same month, it strains our manpower and resources. To better coordinate our events and minimize the impact of too many activities, we follow an Activity Planning Schedule. The chart below lists the events, the Chairman and target week of occurrence. An exact date is not required for planning purposes. The planning schedule is updated yearly at the Officer/Director meeting.
