I am indeed honored by the faith that the district membership has shown in me to assume this position at this point in time. I will not betray the trust that you have placed in me. Let us go forward through the next year and continue to support the children in our communities and the children of the world. As always our primary focus is Service to the Children through our many service projects, Sponsored Youth, Our new International Service Project and other areas that each club performs. International Designate Sylvester Neal has selected his theme to be; LIGHTING THE FIRE. Get Back to Basic fundamentals and values. Take a holistic approach to growth and membership Plus One! Refocus on service and support of our new global service initiative. Support, strengthen and grow our clubs. Work smarter with better utilization of WEB resources, on-line reporting and KI and District technical resources. Commit to teamwork and excellence through Servant Leadership All the clubs in Kiwanis are following this plan for the coming year so that we are more committed to the children of the world, better educated about what Kiwanis is and does, willing to grow the membership of Kiwanis and able to link to Kiwanis through better communications. Our District Motto is BACK TO BASICS. How many of us have read "The Objects of Kiwanis International"? How many of us have read "The Kiwanis Code of Ethics"? How many of us live by these? The following details the goals and objectives that I believe we should have for the coming year. To attain the District and International goals and ideals will require the commitment of all the members of the district. As a district we depend on the success of the clubs to achieve both the district and international goals. We will focus on the fact that the success of the club leaders will result in success of the clubs, which will result in the success of the Utah-Idaho District in achieving its goals. The club is the cornerstone of our organization. Membership in Kiwanis is at the club level. As we succeed as a club in providing service for our communities, we succeed in enriching the lives of our members and our communities. To reiterate, I believe that the function of the district is to work with club leadership and to Governor Message (Continued) It s a Privilege to Serve Let s Continued To Be United in Service to the Youth 2010 House of Delegates Minutes New Members Forgiveness Upcoming U & I Kiwanian Imporant Dates Distinguished Award Criteria for Annual Roster 8 District Officers 9 Lieutenant Governors 9-10 District Chairpersons Service Leadership Program Committee (SLP) & Roster Fifth Board Meeting Minutes First Board Meeting Minutes Club News George C. To achieve these aims, we will be exploring the following areas for Kiwanis clubs and their leaders for the coming year. I. Growth in Membership: Without members we cannot provide service. Every year we commit ourselves to increasing membership by adding new clubs, adding new members and retaining existing members. Many times our members and we feel that this is the only objective of Kiwanis. We seem to many times be-little the many great things that our Kiwanis clubs and members do for their communities and our children. The hard facts are that service clubs throughout America are losing members and are able to provide as much service to our communities as we have in the past. To mitigate this erosion we need to continue to bring new members into our clubs; individuals who are committed to the same ideals of service that we as Kiwanians are committed to provide. To achieve this growth we set the following goals: (Continued on Page 2) U&I KIWANIAN Volume 15 Issue 1 October 2010 /November 2010 Published By: Utah-Idaho District Kiwanis International Gordon C. 2 PAGE 2 BACK TO BASICS (Continued) A. Build two new clubs in the Utah-Idaho district. We have been successful in the last few years in building new clubs in areas of the district that have not been represented by Kiwanis. Again this year we will be asking the Lt. Governors to target areas in their divisions that are potential sites for a new club. A leadership team of dedicated Kiwanians will assist in canvassing and contacting potential members for the new club. Kiwanis International has committed to help in any way they can to make this endeavor possible. There are new opportunities for building new clubs besides the traditional club structure. We have added to the mix the concept of the satellite club, the corporate club, the company club, internet clubs, and breakfast clubs. Kiwanis still has a goal of a million members by 2015 that is part of their strategic plan and these new club ideas will allow us to reach that goal. These new club concepts have been added to allow individuals to be a part of the Kiwanis experience without the necessity of meeting each week in a traditional lunch environment. The Kiwanis experience is to provide service to our communities and our children, not have lunch. B Recruit new members and retain existing members in our clubs. The goal for our district is to grow by ONE member. If the District will have a positive growth we will have reversed many years of declining membership. We must feel and believe that we have reached the bottom and there is only one way to go and that is too grow. The key to success as a district resides in the existing clubs. They are aware of the concerns of their communities and the potential of new members in the community. There are many programs available to the clubs for finding new members. Our membership committee will be willing to provide assistance and advice on what methods and programs have worked in other clubs and will work for your club. The second part of this equation is to retain existing members. Statistics for our district show that we lose 67% of our membership within the first five years after they join our clubs. As you can see we need to continue to recruit new members just to cover this decrease. Our membership committee will help in showing what can be done to keep members involved for longer periods of time. II. Growth in Service. A. EVERY CLUB TO CONCENTRATE ON YOUNG CHILDREN-PRIORITY ONE. We need to continue to provide service for our communities; that is why we exist. But we also need to expand our service. As we attempt to increase our membership we need to remember that one of reasons people leave the club is lack of service projects, the main reason that they joined. The district wide service project is that each club commit to a renewed emphasize on "Young Children". We are the best service organization when it comes to supporting our elementary, middle schools, high schools and colleges through our Service Leadership programs. I feel strongly that the children that we need to concentrate on are those that are pre-school, those whose voice is too small to hear. These are the children that we try to serve through our "Young Chilren-Prioirty One' Program. It has always struck me as ironic that Young Children are our number one priority and yet we do not emphasize this in our actions. There is also the new Kiwanis International World Wide Service Project, "ELIMINATE", that we are going to promote and encourage the clubs to support. This will be the major district wide project for the coming years. In addition to these each club should add one new service project that is peculiar to your own community. This project should be a hands on effort and possibly involve potential new members or done in conjunction with another Kiwanis club or another service club in your area. III. Leadership Training: All club leaders to be trained before they assume office. We need to insure that all club leaders are trained in what their duties and responsibilities are before they take office. There are too many club officers that have not been trained and consequently do not promote and are not aware of the responsibilities that they owe to the clubs and to their district. From experience we know that a club can operate without this training, but wouldn't it operate better and be more aware of who they represent if they were trained in Kiwanis? In addition to our District and International training staff there are many resources available on-line in the form of Webinars. Many of you have already attended some of these sessions and have been impressed with the quality and information content that they provide. IV. Distinguished Achievement Status. This year the district goal is to have 30% of our clubs receive distinguished status. The criteria to do this are attached. The reason to do this is not necessarily for the recognition, but to achieve this status a club needs to do all the things that we as Kiwanians say we do. This recognition is visible proof that we in fact care about our children, our communities, our clubs and our members. There is also the goal to have 20% of our members receive distinguished status. Again, if we truly believe in the ideals of Kiwanis, we should all strive to meet these criteria. V. Kiwanis International Foundation and the Utah-Idaho District Foundation. Our goal is 100% participation in the Kiwanis International Gift Campaign. If all clubs achieve this the District receives $6,000 in matching scholarships for our Sponsored Youth programs, a great return on our money. Our goal is also that 100% of the clubs will contribute the same amount to the District

BACK TO BASICS (Continued) Foundation s that they contribute to the International Foundation. The funds from this endowment fund are also used for scholarships for the Sponsored Youth Programs. VI. Sponsored Youth The goal is for all clubs to have a sponsored youth program and for 10% of the clubs that have a Sponsored Youth Program to add another new K-Kid or Builders Club. These clubs in the lower grades offer great benefits to the children but they offer great benefits to their sponsoring clubs and to the community. Kids get excited about doing service; we need to encourage this tendency to care. More financial and volunteer assistance needs to be provided to the administrators of these organizations. There are a number of Key Clubs in our district that do not have a sponsoring Kiwanis club. The goal will be to get these Key clubs connected to a local Kiwanis club. We would encourage all Kiwanis clubs to provide more than financial support to their Sponsored Youth clubs. We need to attend their functions and service projects and they need to be involved in our functions and service projects. VII. Conventions. We need to promote the benefits of attending the district and international conventions. Our very modest goal for this year is for 10% of the membership to attend our district convention and mid-year conference. To achieve this goal we need to offer a wider diversity of activities that will meet the needs of the membership. The major problem we face with the convention and mid-year is "Making them relevant and Interesting". We continue to hear the phrase, 'Same old Stuff". I appreciate that and can empathize with those who say and feel that. The things we need to understand is what is the function of the Convention and Mid-year gatherings? The conventions primary function is to conduct the business of the District and elect new officers. In conjunction with that we do honors and recognitions for achievements by clubs and individuals during the past year. It is also a time to learn more about Kiwanis and also met other Kiwanians. We have to do all of this in a time frame that does not break the bank of either the district or the membership The Mid-year meeting was established as a training session and time of district side fellowship. IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO MAKE THESE MORE RELAVENT AND INTERSTING, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. ( or arlro@safelink.net) I am aware that each year we draw fewer and fewer members to these events. There Must Be a Better Way. VIII. Communications Our district WEB site is GREAT. Our goal is to utilize this resource to make current information concerning the district available to all the membership. There is access to District and International information and also a link to many of the club WEB sites. Gordon has done us a tremendous job. For those who would like to contact me my is arlro@safelink,net and I would encourage any member with a comment to contact me. Kiwanis is a family. IX. District Strategic Plan. Our goal is the continued implementation of the District Strategic Plan. It details where we are and where we need to be in future years X. Diversity. Our goal is to have an increase in female members in the clubs. As Kiwanians with our focus as children and young adults, should we not encourage those humans that God has blessed by being female and make them a part of Kiwanis? Who better understands children than those who have birthed and reared them? Our goal is a 5% increase in women in the district membership and more women in both club leadership and in the district leadership. As the strategic plan details we need to work harder at attracting the minority population into Kiwanis, either into our existing clubs or into new clubs. These groups can provide a new insight into helping us serve the children. Dear Fellow Kiwanians, IT S A PRIVILEGE TO SERVE Chuck Baker, Utah Idaho District Governor-Elect It is a real privilege to be able to serve as governor-elect. I will be visiting many clubs over the next year with a goal of meeting many members in the two state region. I will be in training for this position and will learn the ropes. I will be supporting Governor Bob Dempsey in every way possible, including working with the new Vice-Governor, Bill Mullins. Their long and deep experience, combined with my community connections and positive attitude will insure a very productive year. I would like any ideas from the members on how increase fundraising, membership growth ideas, and other ways to serve our local communities best. My best address is cbaker1044@gmail.com. Governor Bob has asked my to form a board to oversee the programs that serve youth under 5 in our region. Any who wish to help with this please contact me. I look forward for the opportunities we have to really have an impact this year. Thank You, Charles Baker, Governor-Elect. PAGE 3

PAGE 4 LET S CONTINUE TO BE UNITED IN SERVICE TO THE YOUTH Brent F. Ashworth, Immediate Past Governor Utah-Idaho District, Kiwanis International My Dear Fellow Kiwanians, We have just wrapped up a wonderful annual convention, perhaps one of the finest and most memorable in the recent history of our Utah-Idaho District of Kiwanis International. Appropriately, the evening before our convention kicked off at the Provo Marriott Hotel, many of us were privileged to participate in the Charter Meeting of our newest club at Saratoga Springs, Utah. Stuart Collyer who along with his wife Cindy and other Charter Members, were most responsible for getting up the club, was installed as its Charter. Others were installed on the Charter Board and as Charter Officers. It was an honor to have our International Trustee and his wife, Governor of the Italy District for Kiwanis International present as well as myself and six former Governors of our U-I District, as well as our District and District Treasurer. The meal and entertainment were wonderful, the setting across from Utah Lake was beautiful and the event was most memorable to all of us present. I hope like events can follow in the near future for other locations we have have labored this past year to establish new clubs. It is only by doing this and in retaining and adding members to our existing clubs that we will be able to continue to serve the young people who are our purpose. Our annual convention at the Provo Marriott Hotel was marked with fine speakers, tasty meals and great accommodations. We were privileged to hear from legendary retired BYU football coach Lavell Edwards and his lovely wife Patti as well as our own Don Gale and award-winning author Richard Paul Evans. We conducted auctions which raised over $7, for the District Foundation to help us provide future scholarships for our youth. We were instructed by great Kiwanians and had opportunities to renew old associations as well as make new friends in the great cause for which we are engaged. Jim Courtright, our able and true Kiwanis International Advisor, honored us by choosing to visit our convention as his last Kiwanis event prior to his retirement at the end of this service year. We returned to our homes uplifted by our common mission and goals and rededicated to fulfilling and completing them. As my administrative year as your governor comes to its conclusion, may I ask that we all continue to stay united in our efforts to assist our youth, build new clubs and strengthen our existing ones by helping our members and communities in all the ways which are part of our tradition. Please join me in giving our incoming Governor Bob Dempsay and our new Board and District Leadership our complete support. I look forward with you to a great new year of Kiwanis service. Congratulations to all those who helped make it a success and thanks to Chuck Baker for arranging Richard Paul Evans to be one of our speakers who is the author of several books including the "The Christmas Box". He discussed several things that I would like to repeat because they can be so useful in our life. Know that there is a reason you are here You are divine beings. Listen to the still small voice and act upon it. It is pure communication. If you want to move forward forgive. Don t tie yourself to the past. The ship releases the anchor because it is going somewhere. Forgiveness makes you free. Become something do something with your life take risks. What great advice he gave. Forgiveness can be so hard. Forgiveness does not come easy for most of us. Our natural instinct is to recoil in self-protection when we ve been injured. Nearly everyone has been hurt by the actions or words of another. These things can leave us with lasting feelings of anger, bitterness and even vengeance but it we keep it with us then we are the ones that suffer. In most cases the person who offends us does not know they have offended us. Forgiveness doesn t mean that you deny the other person s responsibility for hurting you, and it doesn t minimize or justify the wrong. You can forgive the person without excusing the act. Forgiveness brings a kind of peace that helps you go on with your life. Dr. Sidney Simon, a recognized authority on values realization, has provided an excellent definition of forgiveness as it applies to human relationships: "Forgiveness is freeing up and putting to better use the energy once consumed by holding grudges, harboring resentments, and nursing unhealed wounds. It is rediscovering the strengths we always had and relocating our limitless capacity to understand and accept other people and ourselves." I found a great quote from Catherine Ponder "When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free." That is so true. As long as we hold onto that we are never free. We are always connected unless we release it. Colossians 3:13 - Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. Governor Brent updated new club building: 4 new clubs haven't made it yet, but we still have a month to go. Appreciated the help with the Saratoga Springs Club and the two internet club in Utah & Idaho. Kimberly club is also in process. Governor Brent was also glad that all in attendance can be here where the Provo Club meets. At different times during the course of the meeting Governor Brent quoted Abraham Lincoln. Reminded everyone to bring money to the Silent Auction, there is a lot to buy. Invocation by Pattie Hansen. Janet presented the minutes of the fourth board meeting. Marvin moved; Cheryl Juntunen seconded to accept minutes; vote was unanimous. Marvin presented the financial reports. Investments are up since a year ago. Pattie moved and John 2 nd with the vote being unanimous. The thousand plus dollars received from the Garden City Club's closing is proposed to be moved to the District Foundation. Pattie moved and Bob Dempsay 2nd. The vote was unanimous. It was proposed that the excess money from this year's budget for International Convention be moved to increase next year's budget for Geneva. Bob Dempsay moved and Cheryl Juntunen 2nd. The vote was unanimous. It was moved that Robert Brown do the financials for this year. Jim Terry moved and Bob Dempsay 2nd. The vote was unanimous. This qualifies the District to receive 6 scholarships for Key Club and 6 scholarships for Circle K (CKI). We are a small district and expect to get the maximum scholarships. Five divisions have reached $5.00 per capita and 5 have not. The following clubs have not yet donated: Div 1 Orem; Div 2 Clearfield; Div 3 Preston; Div 4 Bannock; Div 5 Burley; Div 7 Cedar City, Santa Clara; Div 8 Midvale, Sugar House; Div 9 Nampa, New Plymouth, Ontario, Payette; Div 10 Payson, Springville.

PAGE 20 FIFTH BOARD MEETING (Continued) Jim Terry presented the District Foundation's upcoming fund-raiser at lunch on Saturday of the convention. Prizes will be $50 to the Kiwanis Store, Golf Simulator game, 1 st edition of the Lincoln/Douglas debates, Ipod, and much, much more. The winner will take all. IOU donation slips will be accepted until after the game is over. The goal is to exceed at least $1,000. Several clubs have not yet donated to the Foundation and it is about $2,000 short right now. He will send s to let each Lt. Governor know who hasn't donated. The Blackfoot Club dissolved and sent in about $5,000 to the Foundation per Marv Chamberlain. Pattie Hansen spoke about new club building: Shout out for Saratoga Springs because it is chartered. Internet clubs in the works, 1 in Utah and possibly 2 in Idaho. At Saratoga Springs there were 25 charter members in attendance with 3 not there. Brent had a great time giving each one a charter member pin. Kimberly, Id is still being worked on. Bob Parish & Pattie are working to build a full club and not have it be a satellite club. It should be happening soon. Meridian and Filer are both working on internet clubs. Filer has a satellite internet club. Norman Taylor is working on building a club in Morgan, Ut. He will meet with the principal of the High School next week about turning the Lions Club into a Kiwanis Club. Jim Courtright said the International Board decided to have alternative modes of membership. Satellite, Corporate and Company based clubs. When forming a club and have 17 members and hit a brick wall, then build it into a satellite club. A true Kiwanis club needs 25 members to charter. Don't stop short! Now go back to your town and get 5 new members right away, because your club secretary is going to go through the roster and delete the dead wood. Jim was given a standing ovation for his hard work with the Utah- Idaho District. He is retiring 30 Sep John Brown, CKI District Administrator, has 5 active clubs. Reactivating a club at UVU with the Orem Kiwanis as sponsor. The Dean of USU-Tooele Regional campus is behind CKI all the way and will appoint afaculty advisor with the Tooele Kiwanis as sponsor. Both of these clubs need to build their membership to charter strength in order to get a charter. On October 1 st the dues schedule will be changing. There will be an annual fee of $ Since BYU CKI cannot do any fund-raising the Provo Club has been paying for them to be a club. The future might hold problems for getting this much money from a Kiwanis Club. The Budget was presented with income and expense being $7,800 for the year. Barring no problems. Weber State Medical Facility wants a CKI; the College of Western Idaho needs a CKI per Mark Bennett; Southern Utah University has been worked on by Gail Waite and is ready for a CKI. Norman Taylor, Key Club Administrator, announced that every member of the District Key Club Board (except one) attended the Key Club International convention in Memphis, TN. Key Club is helping in Africa. Most of the Key Club Board will attend this convention. The Ogden Kiwanis Club is going to recharter the Fremont High School Key Club with the help of the incoming Lt. Governor Don Chantry. Weber High School needs a Key Club. Elsa Bennett is helping with answering questions that Norman has and they work well together. Derek Schenck sent a report on Key Leader that was passed around for all to read. Chuck Baker On-to-Geneva This is a chance of a lifetime. What a wonderful excuse to go. Lots of tours are being offered. Geneva to Paris on the bullet train. More information will be forth-coming. Start now to put away $ per month until convention time. Take your family. Piero Grasso said Don't forget Italy. John Brown mentioned that clubs should have quarterly training available; teach about CKI Outreach; Donation to the District Foundation, etc. Let the clubs know what they are not participating in and get them educated. Division 5 is putting together a Kiwanis commercial. Jim Terry is trying to get the Rexburg Key Club chartered. The Pocatello Club is celebrating its 90 th Birthday on Sep 24 th at 6:30pm. There will be a special presentation to Colonel David Kirkpatrick. Must RSVP to Jim Terry in order to attend. Brent had a very big THANK YOU to Mike Gordon, John Brown, Janet Flinders, Jim Terry, Cheryl Juntunen, Frankie Marler, Blake Frei, Tayleen Barnes, Bill Augsberger, Eugene Colledge, Gordon Lewis and Marvin Chamberlain. This is how he gets enjoyment. Don Chantry, Lt. Gov-elect Div 3 is a member of the North Ogden Kiwanis Club. Service is all he can give. Has been a Boy Scout leader for many years. It is important to make a difference and has a desire to help serve anyway he can. Mark Bennett, Lt. Gov-elect Div 6 is a member of the Meridian Kiwanis Club. He has learned a lot from his mother Elsa Bennett (Past Key Club Administrator). John Brown, Lt. Gov Div 2 & CKI Administrator is a member of the Tooele Kiwanis Club. He joined because Kiwanis is childoriented and focused locally, but also internationally. Jim Terry, Lt. Gov Div 4, of the District Foundation, District Human & Spiritual Values Chair, Past Governor & District Education Assistant is a member of the Rexburg Kiwanis Club. He is always working with youth. So it ws a natural fit to join Kiwanis. Working with children is a blessing. Janet Flinders, Lt. Gov Div 3 & District is a member of the Logan Kiwanis Club. She joined Kiwanis because she was asked. She became a Kiwanian by serving children. Bill Mullins, Past Governor is a member of the Tooele Kiwanis Club. He joined because CKI ws part of his college life. He served under Bob Dempsay as a Lt. Governor of Div 2 and knows that Bob can get the job done. Bob Baker, Lt. Gov-elect Div 2 is a member of the South Salt Lake Valley Kiwanis Club. He is proud to be a charter member and was part of Key Club in High School. Jim Spinelli, Lt. Gov-elect Div 5 is a member of the Hailey Idaho and the Wood River Valley Kiwanis Club. The three Bobs (Bob Cameron, Bob Dempsay and Bob Parish) came to Wood River Valley and recruited him. He has had the grandest time serving the childre. The side benefit is the camaraderie. Carter Jones, Lt. Gov-elect Div 8 is a member of the Salt Lake City Kiwanis Club. He joined 20 years ago because he was invited by a client. He then moved to Denver and his job required that he join Rotary. When he came back to Salt Lake City, he rejoined Kiwanis and enjoys the local service projects and the people he sees at Kiwanis. Marvin Chamberlain, District Treasurer & District Foundation Treasurer is a member of the Twin Falls Kiwanis Club. He joined Kiwanis because of service and the friendships that grow from that. Norman Taylor, SLP Chairman & Key Club Administrator is a member of the Ogden Kiwanis Club. He refuses to grow up and enjoys working with the kids. Best decision in my life was to join Kiwanis. Chuck Baker, On-to-Int'l Conv Chair and running for Governor-elect is a member of the Bonneville Kiwanis Club. In 1953 this club was a spin-off from the Salt Lake City Club. It has heritage and class. He parallels Carter Jones' opinion. He walked into the Bonneville Club and met Barney Tanner & Dick Bird. Looks forward to the weekly meetings. He loves putting together tours for Onto-Convention and enjoyed being the District Kiwanis Int'l Foundation Chair, and love working with Kiwanis and Kiwanians. LaMar Anderson, Kiwanis Int'l Foundation Chair and Past Governor is a member of the Logan Kiwanis Club. He spent 60+ years of Boy Scouts and many years in Kiwanis. Erland Elmer, District Education Chair is a member of the Sugar House Kiwanis Club. His Dad paid dues in the Payson Kiwanis Club and became of the club. He worked for the National Guard and at at Chuc-A-Rama. Because of this heritage he joined Kiwanis right away. Jim Courtright, Kiwanis International Area Manager is a member of Kiwanis in Arizona. He has been in Kiwanis 34 years and the last 12 years on staff at KI. He is retiring September 30, Bob Parish, Past Governor is a member of the Filer Kiwanis Club. He joined 21 years ago and spends his time trying to build up clubs in Idaho (proceeding slowly). It is great to be a Kiwanian. Bob Dempsay, Governor-elect, Past Governor, Resolutions Chair & member of the Service Leadership Program Committee is a member of the Rupert Kiwanis Club. He was invited by a kid he grew up with, who invited Bob's older brother to join Kiwanis. Bob joined in His first Kiwanis Int'l Convnetion was in 1996 in Salt Lake City. He has been involved ever since. Kiwanians do hands-on service, other organizations pay. We do children right. It's a pleasure to work with children. There are at least 3 Boy Scouters in the group. He worked with scouts while hs sons were part of that organization. There are wonderful stories of why we all joined Kiwanis. For the Hailey Idaho and Wood River Valley Kiwanis Club charter night, I signed the charter. It's a wonderful experience to have your name on a document that could still be around in 90 years. It's a great year, The future is always bright. There are so many things we can do to impact lives for good. The Budget was presented for Any questions, please contact Marv Chamberlain. It is an in-progress budget. The money for Int'l Convention is just to help you get there. It will not pay all your expenses. The amount is divided by 15. The District will spend the whole amount. Eight board members are planning on attending: Bob Dempsay, Chuck Baker, Janet Flinders, Marvin Chamberlain, Bob Baker, Don Chantry, Chuck Humphrey, and Carter Jones. Questions about the budget are now open. You will have to live with the decision you make today. There were Lt. Governors in the past that didn't take their reimbursement check and it can be donated to the District Foundation toward a Reed Culp. 1. Chuck Humphrey asked about the line item Credit Card Discounts. These came from the PayPal Account for registrations to the Mid-Year Conference and the District Convention through the internet. Marv moved & Bob Baker 2 nd. Vote was unanimous. 2. In the next 6 weeks the District will be billed for Officers insurance D&O. It is $400 per year. The CPA is Dennis Brown. Bob Baker moved & Jim Spinelli 2 nd. Vote was unanimous. Bob Dempsay refused the Life Membership offered to the Governor for his service and is donating it to the District Foundation. The Governor's Project: There used to be a Governor's quilt. There will be an official Governor's Quilt this year and Lt. Governors will sell tickets in their division. In Idaho we're honest; in Utah the raffle tickets are called donations to the District Foundation. The Kiwanis International Worldwide Service Project is Maternal & Neonatal Tetnus Elimination. It has been accepted by the Kiwanis membership in attendance at the Int'l Convention in Las Vegas, NV and Kiwanis Int'l is working on getting the project started. We were all going in the same direction helping people by eliminating IDD. Now the MNT project is the next step to helping kids in 3 rd world countries. Gordon Lewis has hooked up MNT to the District Website.

PAGE 22 FIRST BOARD MEETING (Continued) We are really good at youth, CKI, Key Club, Builders Club, K-Kids. We don't do pre-school well and not Aktion Club. These kids get left out of the loop. Aktion Clubs are in Caldwell and Provo. Why not everywhere? Socks & Underwear for underpriviledged kids and Babycare Cupboards need to be everywhere. People who are forgotten are those who don't have a voice: We will renew emphasis on projects for youn children (pre-school)...this is YCPO. Babycare Cupboards and domestic violence groups have needs for diapers, etc. We need to help abused kids get a hospital kit with clothes and supplies because their clothes have been confiscated for evidence. It is hard to get 60 clubs going in exactly the same direction. Jim Spinelli said the Hailey Club is fund-raising for the children's project against abuse. They provide a backpack with clothes, etc for thos kids when they leave the hospital. Most clubs do a reading program, but we need to expand that to a program that is above and beyond providing books. Kids need clothes. School supplies for schools is a great project to work on. Wal-mart sells school supplies for almost nothing. We should be buying these things and give them to the schools. Teachers are expected to provide supplies for their classes and not get reimbursed. Check with the schools to see what they are not able to provide. Chuck Baker suggested a small committee to contact Lt. Governors and provide information about projects that really need to get done. Chuck Baker, Gordon Lewis, Don Chantry and Jim Spinelli will be the mini-board for kid's projects. Don't forget the District Convention will be August 26, 2011 at the Holiday Inn in Pocatello. You can get more accomplished if you have the information you will be talking about in front of you before the meeting. You will then be able to discuss this knowledgeably and intelligently. When you get your Lt. Governor reports, send them in to be packaged in an to all board members. Are we happy to have 5% of the members at convention? Cost is a problem. We need to change the format of what is happening on Saturday. In Italy and Europe & the U.S., the member doesn't feel like a part of the District, just their club. It's the job of the Lt. Governor to let the members know that they are important. You need to explain to the member that without him nothing would exist in Kiwanis. It's our main job to convince the member to participate. AND we need to let him know that he is the person we are trying to reach to help the kids. The ELIMINATE Project won't happen without the members getting involved. Carter Jones attended meetings while 2 nd VP thru Pres. of his club, but he didn't feel he was needed to be here at District meetings. He wants to do things with his family and golf. Cost of District meetings is a problem. Bob Dempsay enlightened the group with the reason for the convention. It is to elect officers at the House of Delegates and do District business. John Brown at CKI Mid-Year wants to do a service project and have Convention for business. Kiwanis could do a mini-service project. Bob Dempsay said there was a problem with policy 6 years ago. A training staff ws set up to do training in each division to take it away from the Convention and Mid-Year Conference. The only people showing up are there to be trained. We cannot generate enough people to come to District Conferences/Conventions to cover the cost. Maybe we should start meeting at a High School where there are free rooms. This will be discussed further at the next Board meeting in Tremonton. The Governor picks the site and historically it is the same every year. We are nto appealing or attractive to the general membership. Only the officers show up. Bottom line is most members don't know the District exists. Members are the important part of the club. That's what it is all about. District is a tier of people to help make the club experience better. One Kiwanis Club was asked by Bob: Who is the Kiwanis Int'l.? No idea. The Club didn't know who the governor was. WE NEED TO BE SEEN AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Marv said we should go back to our clubs and let them know what they missed. The clubs should be told what a great convention we just attended, and tell them that if they were there, we could have done more. Two Lt. Governors have not been trained, but both have taken the training on the internet. Don Chantry and Jim Spinelli stilled need to be trained by Erland Elmer. He will be doing training one-on-one if necessary, but it is better if there is a group. It needs to be part of Mid-Year Conference. All Lt. Governors-elect should be elected by then, so they can start working with the clubs in their divisions sooner. The Lt. Governors-elect Elections should be in January. Bob brought up the Amendments to the Int'l Bylaws. We need to implement those changes. The Concept of Vice Governor needs to be addressed. Bylaw changes must be submitted to the District Board and then voted on at District Convention in the House of Delegates. In closing what does the District expect from Lt. Governors? Be the link between the District Leaders and the Clubs. Pass on information from the District to the Clubs and they should pass information up the chain to the District from the Clubs. Attend a Board Meeting of every club and a meeting of every club. Have 's Council Meetings every quarter or more. Speak at each club every quarter with news of ongoing projects, etc. Attend all District Board meetings and be prepared to participate. Train the Lt. Governors-designate to handle club installations in their division. To run for Governor, Governor-elect or Vice-Governor, you must have a background check. Background checks should be happening in the clubs for all who work with children. It is for self-preservation. Make sure your club has background checks on all the club members who work with kids. Meeting was adjourned at 4:32 pm MINUTES OF THE UTAH-IDAHO DISTRICT FOUNDATION Friday, 27 August 2010 Provo Marriott Conference Center, Provo, Utah Minutes of the Utah-Idaho District Foundation held Friday, August 27, 2010, at the Provo Marriott Conference Center, Provo, Utah at 4:45pm Jim Terry conducted the meeting. Board Members present were: J. LaMar Anderson, Marvin Chamberlain, Janet Flinders, Josh Holt, Bob Parish, and Jim Terry. Absent was: Gene Piland. Guest: Ralph Benson, Bob Dempsay, Piero Grasso, Bill Mullins and Cristiana Thielmann (Piero's Interpreter). Invocation by Marv Chamberlain. Minutes of the February 20, 2010 Board meeting were presented by Janet Flinders. Josh moved and Bob Parish 2 nd. The vote was unanimous. Marv presented the financials. Only one Reed Culp Medal was sold this year. Kiwanis International sent $5, for matching scholarships for CKI and Key Club. The Foundation must now match the $5, for these scholarships.

9th Annual Motorcycle Escort to Camp Rainbow Gold On Sunday August 1st, the Kiwanis Club of Hailey and the Wood River Valley, Idaho, hosted the Motorcyclists BBQ for the 5th year, with the help of the newly formed Key Club of Wood River High School. The event took place for the 1st time at the Bellevue City Memorial Park. The Kiwanis Club cooks a BBQ for the Motorcyclists that escort the bus that carries approximately 80 children in Idaho, who have or had cancer, to a weeklong fun summer camp at Cathedral Pines. The event raised over $4000 with the BBQ and a money raffle, which all goes to the Camp Rainbow Gold. There were over 500 motorcycles and over 800 people at the park enjoying the event in anticipation of the arrival of the bus. PAGE 23 DISTRICT FOUNDATION MINUTES (Continued) Donations have been received from the following: Boise Gem State, Bonneville, Brigham City, Capital City Boise, Clearfield, Emmett, Filer, Heber Valley, Jerome, Layton, Les Bois, Logan, Midvale, Nampa, Park City, Pleasant Grove, Pocatello, Provo, Rexburg, Rupert, Salt Lake City, Shelley, Spanish Fork, Sugar House, Tooele, Twin Falls, and West Valley SL County. Key Club went way over budget. Norman Taylor has not turned in any receipts for Key Club International Convention and said they were lost. Norman sent a letter to every Kiwanis Club asking for $ each to the Key Club District. A letter will be sent to the Administrator on how to resolve this issue of lost receipts and being over budget. Marv will write the letter and Jim Terry will sign it. Proposed that Dennis Brown be the CPA who checks over the books. Josh moved and Bob Parish 2 nd. The vote was unanimous. Jim Terry will remain as and Josh Holt will be Vice for the coming year. Gene Piland, La Mar Anderson and Janet Flinders' terms have expired. Proposed that Janet Flinders will remain for another 3 years as, with Bill Mullins and Rayleen Barnes as suggested new members. A vote will be taken at the House of Delegates. ELIMINATE funds should go toward Hixson and MNT. The District Foundation Fund-raiser will be on Saturday. Josh explained: Heads and Tails. A person will flip a coin. All participants will give $5.00, and so on until someone wins the pot of prizes. The goal is to raise $1,500. One prize to the last man standing. Only one person wins or last 3 people win 1/3. Next year we need to have a concert for a fund-raiser for the Foundation at District Convention. Josh moved, Marv 2 nd to adjourn at 5:55pm. Vote was unanimous. MORE SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED AT BLAINE SCHOOLS!! The Kiwanis Club of the Wood River Valley is hoping to supply kids, teachers and counselors with any and all school supplies. We would love to have backpacks, markers, glue sticks, paper, pencils, calculators, etc. We will have drop off boxes inside the front doors of the schools throughout Blaine County. If you are interested in a monetary donation or would like a Kiwanian to pick up your donation, please call Kim Baker at and she would be happy to assist. The Kiwanian's main purpose is to serve the children of the community and because of the economic state there are a lot of children in need of supplies this year. The Kiwanis will be purchasing supplies only from local stores here in the valley.
