1 2013 FALL EDITION Pacific Northwest Division L GGER Train Collectors Association Mission Statement: "To develop an appreciation of and to preserve an important segment of history - Tinplate Toy Trains - through research, education, community outreach, fellowship, establishment of collecting standards, and to promote the growth and enjoyment of collecting and operating toy, model and scale trains." November 3, 2013 DIVISION MEET SET CHEHALIS MOOSE HALL 1400 Grand Avenue Chehalis, WA The PNWD Division Officers are very proud to invite you to the Fall Pacific Northwest Division Train Meet. It will be at the Chehalis Moose Hall. As always, we are looking forward to your support and participation! We will do our best to provide you with a very entertaining day of Fun, Food and TRAINS!!! Like the Summer Division Meet, we will open for seller set-up and breakfast at 7:30am. This will give your officer s an opportunity to get the hall in order. Boise Traveling Layout Coming to GTE in Puyallup November The Boise Treasure Valley Chapter is making the trek over the mountains to show off and operate their layout at the Great Train Expo, Nov We will have a crew of people from the westside to help with set-up and operation. You see, without the members we would be a non-entity. This past Summer was eventful for me as I went to the National meet where many discussions were held with regards to the health of TCA. Good financial decisions were made to keep us solvent and even though the national dues will raise to $50, please keep in mind, that this is less than 14 a day to be a part of the World s Greatest Hobby! We are having a full slate of goings on in the next couple of months. We have the Division Meet; GTE Puyallup Show; Seattle Chapter/PNWD Joint Christmas Meet as well as the Chapter gettogethers. The Boise Chapter is hauling their traveling layout to the Puyallup Show and we look forward to the camaraderie that will ensue. We, the PNWD of TCA, will have a booth there with some handouts. Hopefully we will find this to be a good source for bringing new collectors aboard. I want to thank the Board of Directors for the Division & Chapters. Under the guidance of Dick, Peter and Harry our chapters are healthy. For those who do not come to these chapter meets you are really missing out on some great fun and fellowship. The Board of the Division is looking forward to a full house at the November 3rd PNWD Division Meet. Again we are holding it at the Moose Hall in Chehalis. We had a wonderful participation at the Summer Meet and the Fall Meet should be even better. We will have raffles for train items and more. We will be giving out 3 Gift Certificates for Safeway to start the Holiday Season Out on a positive note. For those seller s remember we can only allocate around 50 tables for sales. So, be sure to get your registration in as early as possible. The Moose has just done a very nice job in providing us with a very nice venue and the food has been upgraded. If you would like to see changes in anything just let me or any other BOD member know of your needs. Also, please feel free to me with any items or articles you would like to see printed or just send me photos of your layout or collection so we can include them in the Logger. 3 PNWD NEWS SEATTLE CHAPTER DICK WALTERS REPORTING We have handily exceeded our meet attendance expectation this year over last and the past summer months have been especially gratifying. So, to all the members and families and their guests who have been supporting the Seattle Chapter meets this year, your Board of Directors say THANK YOU! Is there something in the water that is doing this? I think not! There has just been an increased interest in both our Division and Chapter happenings, and focusing on the FUN aspect of our hobby is continuing to bring in more participants! This December 8, 2013 meet will be your Seattle Chapter annual Christmas party and will be jointly sponsored by both us and your Pacific Northwest Division. Food, beverages, and FUN will dominate, and of course we will have tables upon tables of trains for sale and a great auction as well. We will again also be having a Toys for Tots drive, and ask that those in attendance contribute at least one new and unwrapped toy each ($5 and up) or an appropriate cash donation. Last year we provided over 100 new toys and $250 cash for the good of the order. These are going to families that can t afford these things: The type things that WE play with and enjoy year round. Have a wonderful Holiday season and a Happy New Year ahead, and I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming meets! Best regards, your Seattle Chapter Board of Directors: Dick Walters, President; Jim Ryan, Vice-President; Scott Law, Treasurer and Gary Gretzner, Secretary PORTLAND CHAPTER PETER SCHUYTEMA REPORTING As the height of "train season" approaches with the coming of cooler wetter weather, the Portland Chapter is working towards preparations for the our annual Open House on December 15th from 12-4 PM. This will follow our normal December meet from 9-12 PM. Also, we have our joint Christmas banquet with the local TTOS chapter on Sunday December 8th (contact Al Merris, almerris@comcast.net, for more information and he usually brings registration forms to the Division Meet). BOISE CHAPTER RON MORRIS REPORTING The Treasure Valley Chapter of Train Collectors Association almost has the layout, rack and trailer for our first run with the new layout. The racks are being painted and will be ready for all of us to learn how to tear the layout down and put on the racks and then into the trailer. We will be having a training meeting at Dan Brown s shop to educate all of us as to how to accomplish the tear down and assembly of the layout. There needs to be more than one or two that know how to do this. PAGE 3
4 PNWD NEWS 2013 Raffle Tickets Still Available and Going Fast You can support the club s endeavors by purchasing tickets for our yearly raffle. 5 PNWD NEWS 2013 Summer Chehalis Division Meet Many thanks to Rob Cook for sending out his Portland Chapter Newsletter. He does a super job of keeping the group abreast of what s happening. Rob was also the recipient in the drawing for the $100, for his participation, in the 2013 Berkshire Club Raffle. Remember to get your winning ticket as the drawing will be held at the December 8th Seattle/Division Joint Christmas Meet. The Nov. 3rd Division Meet will be the last time to purchase, in person, for many. Remember the funds go to support the club and keep dues to a minimum. We couldn t have pulled off the free July Summer Meet without your whole-hearted support in this yearly raffle. PAGE 5
