Go to: to read Father Jordan s daily blog Grand Knight Report Don Aitcheson or aitcheson@hotmail.com May is a busy month with a lot of events and activities. We have our annual state convention, election of officers, Seton High School graduation, and our annual Living Rosary May tribute to our Blessed Mother to name a few. All roads lead to Ocean City, Maryland for the 116 th annual Maryland State Convention from May 2 to 4. At our council meeting on May 6, we will have election of officers for fraternal year. The initial list of nominees have been published in a special edition of the. More details will be found in this publication. It is our privilege to once again serve as ushers at this year s Elizabeth Seton High School graduation to be held at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Due to a scheduling conflict the Living Rosary has been rescheduled for May 20 at 7:30pm. We will not have a council meeting that night. All members, families and parishioners are invited to participate in this moving tribute to our Blessed Mother. Finally, the council approved to cover the cost of installation of air conditioning units in Friendship Hall. The weather has changed and the units have been installed just in time to take on the challenge of the warmer months. We hope it proves to be a benefit to all in our church and school communities. District Deputy Report Charles Pat Springmann, PGK, PFN On the 27 th of April, two exemplary leaders of the Church, Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II were elevated to sainthood. In celebration of this historic and joyful occasion all first degrees from April 1 st thru June 30 th should be conducted with the honorees being the above named saints. A special first degree certificate for new members has been sent to each council conducting first degrees and should be handed out to new members. Now that we are in the month of May and back from the ocean, let us not forget Mother s Day for all mothers living and home with the Lord. May God continue to watch over each and every one of us for the upcoming fraternal year! It never hurts to share our council s successes with our brothers. Vivat Jesus 1

The family is active in parish activities. Their two daughters are altar servers. Magnus and the girls are members of the African Choir. Magnus is also an usher at the 930 am Sunday Mass. Mother Seton Council of the Knights of Columbus takes this opportunity to recognize the ongoing service and the dedication of this family. We thank you for all you do for our parish and community. A presentation of the Living Rosary will take place on Tuesday, May 20 at 7:30 pm. All are invited to participate in this annual event. Common saints and feast days we commemorate in the month of May are: Saint Joseph the worker (1), Saints Philip and James (3), Saint Damien of Malokai (10), Our Lady of Fatima (13), Saint Matthias (14), Saint Bernadette (20), Saint Augustine (27), Ascension of the Lord (29), and Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary(31). 3 Council Activities Raymond Ihegbe, PGK This month our Council members will be called upon to volunteer at Elizabeth Seton High School graduation at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday, May 27.We have participated as ushers for over 30 years. Thank you in advance for your support. Community Activities George Edet or As the weather gets warmer we will start planning for our next Adopt-A-Road project. If you are interested in volunteering at FedEx Field this year, stay tuned for training for new participants. Trained individuals can participate in upcoming activities like NFL Draft day, professional international soccer matches, and concerts before the football season starts. Knight of the Month James Kalshoven, PGK This award is for the month of March Jan is the recipient of the March 2014 Knight of the Month Award. Jan is currently serving the council as Recorder. He is also the chairman of our Youth Activities and a contributor to our success as volunteers at Stand 126 at FedEx Field. Jan, thank you for your efforts in support of the Council and congratulations on a job well done. You are an exemplary Mother Seton Knight. 5 Supreme Council News Knights Join Rome Canonization Celebrations The Order hosted pilgrims and funded Vatican broadcasts In celebration of the canonizations of Saint John Paul II and Saint John XXIII, the Knights of Columbus was active in Rome, lending financial support to Vatican television s broadcast of the canonization ceremony, and hosting numerous pilgrims at K of C facilities. The Knights of Columbus provided nearly $100,000 to support Vatican Television s (CTV s) broadcast of the canonizations. In addition, the Knights of Columbus opened two of its sports fields in Rome to give a thousand pilgrims primarily from Poland a place to camp for the events. Within the city of Rome, these sports fields are about three miles from St. Peter s, which is easily accessible by foot or public transportation. The Knights has been active in a variety of charitable roles in Rome for more than 90 years. Following the Knights service to American troops in Rome in World War I, Pope Benedict XV in 1920 invited the Knights to continue the Order s good works in the city and develop playgrounds for the city s youth, who had few open spaces for exercise in the post-war years. The Knights did so, and continue to manage and maintain athletic fields, which are free to the young people of Rome. The work at the playgrounds continued unabated even during World War II, when the United States and Italy were at war. During the war, food delivery to the people of Rome from the Vatican was often coordinated from a K of C athletic field. After the war, a Knights athletic field became a distribution point for food to the children of Rome suffering food shortages. The K of C has also supported the Eternal City in other ways, promoting its cultural and artistic heritage through restorations of Vatican and civic artworks and monuments, and the sponsoring of many renovation projects at St. Peter s Basilica including the restoration of the façade in the 1980s. The Knights has also sponsored a number of Vatican communications initiatives, including several satellite broadcasts each year, and the co-sponsoring with Sony of the Vatican s acquisition of a mobile high definition television studio.
