The Pastor s Corner Dear Church Family, The Bodylife, May 11, 2017 Sunday, May 14 th is Mothers Day. Last week we started a sermon series moving through the book of Philippians. The title of the series, Journey to Joy, reflects some of my excitement I felt as I began to plan about six weeks ago. When I was planning, I noticed that this Sunday I would be addressing Paul s imprisonment by the Romans. I thought to myself, no worries, it will be a good opportunity to address some challenges that arise along our journeys, plus I have a catchy sermon title for that. I titled the sermon Purposeful Potholes and moved on. That is until late last week. I began to consider the reality of the troubles people face every day in their lives. In the grand scheme of God s wonderful plan the challenges we experience may appear as potholes, but in the moment they often feel like Grand Canyons. So here I sit preparing a sermon on life s challenges and how God uses them. Probably not a great idea for week 2 of a pastorate from a human perspective. Thankfully, God is smarter than me, and what I would have planned. I fully believe that He was working in this; He has a purpose. Faith gives me hopeful confidence that He will speak through His Word this week. In other news, I continue to enjoy learning about the church and connecting with individuals. Last night I got to spend time with some of the younger men at my house. The May Dessert with the Fugate s is full. If you did not sign up last week please continue to do so for June and July. If you find yourself forgetting to sign up on Sunday feel free to shoot me an at brent.fugate@gmail.com.

Prayer requests At Hope Community Church in Newburyport, Andy Bauer, Family Life Pastor, and his wife, Kate, who is also on staff at Hope, found out right before Easter that their six-year-old daughter, Ellie, has a cancer, called neuroblastoma. Basically, it is a Stage 4 cancer. Ellie is currently undergoing chemotherapy and other aggressive treatments to help her battle this disease.
She is being treated at Boston Children s Hospital as well as Dana Farber, where the doctors there have said she has a 50/50 chance to survive. It is being asked that we pray for Ellie and her family as often as you can, believing that our Heavenly Father can heal little Ellie completely and rid this cancer from her body. 8 Time to play! This month we have a lots of plans, but first a few pictures from the month of April. In His time... We enjoyed beautiful weather for our annual staff retreat with the theme of "thanksgiving." We were even joined by former staff John and Rachel Koon with their son Oscar, and Violeta Hotnogu currently on maternity leave. Rodica Cojocaru, Sewing Program Coordinator, will finish her three years with us this month. Pray for her transition and for new staff person to continue this valuable program. Rodica shares some words of thanks on our blog...
Dolphins and Reptiles The children were gifted a trip to a dolphin show last month - an unforgettable experience as we could see on their faces. We are thankful for an ongoing partnership with "Generous Hearts", a local foundation. See more photos. Christ is Risen! We celebrated Christ's resurrection on Easter Sunday with over 50 children and family members. We are so thankful for all the special dishes prepared and served by volunteers followed by a time of songs, games and fellowship for the children and families of La VIA. Mini-Soccer Court The last snow has melted and we are ready to begin building a mini soccer court where kids can let the balls fly! Make a donation through the button below and then come join us for a game when it's complete! Updates from Konlan Kpeebi in Ghana.
2 Thessalonians 1:2 ~ I pray that God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace! (CEV) BPC World Outreach Center Isaiah 6:8 GHANA INSTITUTE OF LINGUISTICS, LITERACY AND BIBLE TRANSLATION (GILLBT), BOX 378 TAMALE, N/R GHANA Dear Mission Committee Members, Greetings from Ghana in the wonderful name of our risen Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Isn t good to know that the dividends of our mutual partnership are beginning to show among the Koma people? We have always been praying that the Lord should raise men and women among the Koma people to lead His Church. So the testimony of Clement below is another answered prayer. Clement Karim Dogba is one of the Koma young men who accepted Christ in the village of Yikpabongo and now the leader of the Pentecost Church. This is what he had to say about his conversion. I attended formal school to primary 4 but could not read, so I joined one of the Koma literacy classes in the village. As I learnt how to read and started reading the Koma NT, I realized that as a Muslim, I was lost, so I gave my life to Christ and joined the church of Pentecost. At that time because most of the members of the church could not read they only sang songs and prayed on Sundays anytime the visiting pastor who lived many kilometres away could not come. So I started to share the Word of God with my colleagues anytime the visiting pastor could not come. With time, I was invited to attend the church s district meetings and was eventually asked to serve on the church s District Executive Council. According to Clement, the name Dogba is actually Doga. However, because Doga is the name of a shrine, he decided to add g to it to show his departure from the worship of idols.
Below is the picture of Clement Karim Dogba reading his Koma NT and the church. Besides leading the church, Clement has the gift of healing, this most of the village people including those who are not Christians ask him to pray for them. Please, pray that this gift will be sustained in the church. The Koma people are people are mainly an agrarian people and the farming season has just started. However, most of the testimonies last Sunday were mainly about how they came across snakes on their farms and how the Lord saved them. One of the men testified that he killed 3 snakes in one day on his farm. Please also pray for the Lord s protection as they work on their farms this year. Serving together, Konlan A Missionary Update from the Bennett's in France 2 Thessalonians 1:2 ~ I pray that God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace! 12 BPC World Outreach Center Isaiah 6:8 Welcome to our April 2017 prayer letter. Dear Byfield Parish, EASTER EVENTS On the first Easter morning the angels told the women who came to Jesus tomb, Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again (Luke 24:5-7). Most French people have a vague notion that Easter is some sort of religious holiday. The week leading up to Easter, however, we had the opportunity through two different events to share that Easter is about the Good News that Jesus is alive and that we too can have life
because of what he has done for us. The first event was a Passover Seder dinner, where the story of the Exodus was retold through bread made without yeast, bitter herbs, salty water, and a host of other elements that helped retell the story of God bringing his people out of Egypt. We invited three families to experience this meal with us, and we had the opportunity to explain how through Jesus we have real freedom from everything that would enslave us. It was a great time to eat, talk, and be together. On Easter Sunday, we met in the park to read the account of Jesus resurrection and have an Easter egg hunt. Several families came with their kids and got to hear why Easter is Good News. The kids had a great time while the adults chatted over coffee and croissants.
Getting ready for the Seder meal and different elements during the meal
(top row), and moments from Easter Sunday PRAYER REQUESTS * Please pray for our newly started ladies & men s bible studies, and for the people we re inviting to consider reading the Bible with us. * Also for an upcoming internship of 15 students from Cedarville University who will be visiting for a bike and prayer tour at the end of May.
