And her name in Yisrael shall be Libi Bareket Finkelstein Meirowitz! Libi means my heart, and we chose this name in blessed memory of my beloved grandmother Lois Katlin Wynn. May Libi love the arts as her Savta rabbah did - music, painting, literature, and poetry. May she inherit some of Nani Lois irreverent sense of humor, too. Nani Lois was devoted to her immediate family and to the Jewish community, locally and internationally. We pray that you inherit these wonderful qualities, too, Libi. Bareket, Libi s middle name, means emerald, one of the gems in the choshen mishpat, the high priest s breastplate. Bareket sounds like Baruch, the Hebrew name of my grandfather, Bernie Finkelstein, after whom Libi is also named. Papa Bernie was an adventurous, musical, thoughtful, poetical and fun-loving father, grandfather, uncle, etc... May the memory of your great grandparents bless you, Libi Bareket Finkelstein Meirowitz! You are a blessing to me, to Sara, and to big brother Rafi. Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us today, both in Waltham and elsewhere. We love you all. Your love and support and community mean the world to us. Finally, we thank You, Source of Life and all Being, hakadosh Barukh hu, Hashem, Harachaman, who has been so compassionate and loving with us, allowing us to survive pregnancy and childbirth without any major injuries. The sanctuary chairs arrived on Monday August 13, and the day was a momentous one for Temple Beth Israel. Our younger members, our older members, our long-time members, and our newest members joined together to carry in the chairs from a delivery truck that took up (Continued on page 10)

3 September O ctober Page Harbor Island Cruise in July Thanks to Andrea's beautiful flier which attracted a dozen TBI members, with the weather cooperating, the Harbor Island trip to George's Island and additional ferry to Peddocks was a success. Two people went swimming and several explored. Everyone relaxed and enjoyed themselves. Thank you Programming Committee and Andrea. The sustaining membership amount is a combination of a required membership contribution and a voluntary High Holy Day Pledge. For an Individual Membership, the sustaining amount is $575 for membership + a voluntary $200 High Holy Day Pledge. For a Family Membership, the sustaining amount is $1150 for membership + a voluntary $400 High Holy Day Pledge. We welcome all members to give at a level in which they are comfortable and ensure the congregation will meet its budgeted expenses. Annual Meeting Report (August 26, 2018) By: Mark Frydenberg Mark Frydenberg welcomed everyone to the meeting and gave a summary of accomplishments during the year, and announced several board transitions for the coming year. Committee chairs highlighted past and upcoming activities. The Congregation offered thanks and appreciation to Lester Macklin for his 5 years of service as Vice President, and Ellen Macklin for her six years of service as Membership Secretary. The Nominating Committee contacted almost all members of the synagogue to invite them to attend the meeting or vote by absentee ballot. Fifty-seven members voted (34 in person, and 23 absentee). The Congregation re-elected Susan Gitelle Baron as Temple Secretary. Mila Maystrovsky was elected as Membership Secretary. Dina Baker was elected as Vice-President. Each office is for a two-year term. Thanks to Andrea Baron, Marilyn Racette, Encie who helps with our childcare, and her brother Nathan, who is celebrating his bar mitzvah in this sanctuary next year, along with their mom Amy Rothman, Jen Shectman, Michael Green, the Brothers of our Brotherhood Paul Smith, Al Smith, and David Smith; Alan Levine; Rabbi David; one of our newest members, Zach Roe; and Ben Maystrovsky, who celebrated his Bar Mitzvah in our sanctuary last year. Afterward, Ben Maystrovsky asked me why we didn't pay someone to carry in the chairs. I said to him that this day was a special one for the synagogue that doesn't happen very often: the last time anyone brought new seats in the sanctuary was over 58 years ago. This was a day of creating connections with the synagogue's past, and future. I told Ben, "every time you come to this synagogue, whether it's next week or next month or next year, or ten years from now, you can look at this space and say to everyone here, I helped to create it. This is your Temple Beth Israel." It s our turn. This is our Temple Beth Israel. This is our Temple Beth Israel. This accomplishment calls upon all of us to take our place as donors, supporters, and builders of Temple Beth Israel. I ask you to be as generous as you can when you make your pledge to the renovation fund. Naming opportunities are available. Your generosity will help the synagogue remain fiscally responsible. This is the day we celebrate these accomplishments. I hope we can continue to enjoy Temple Beth Israel for ourselves and remain strong for years and decades to come. It's our turn. To see a video of the sanctuary renovations, please visit online. Navigating the Sanctuary In a departure from our long-standing custom, we will not be assigning seats for the high holy days. Please be flexible. If you used to sit in a favorite place in the sanctuary, try sitting in the same area, or be open to experiencing the service from a different vantage point. If you need additional space for mobility or comfort, please look for the sections around the sanctuary where three seats without arms are joined together. T e m p l e T a l k

Join us on Sunday December 2nd in the afternoon (time to be announced) for a concert with Hankus Netsky featuring songs and sketches from the Yiddish Radio Show with Ben Gailing ( ) on what would have been his 120th birthday. Gailing hosted the Yiddish Radio Show in Boston for over 60 years. Join us the following Friday, December 7, for a special program after Shabbat dinner. Details to come!
