Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatu Allah wa Barakatuh. I thank Allah (swt) for giving us the Imaan and creating us in the Ummah of Prophet Mohammed (saw). MashaAllah, our students extremely enjoyed the Mad Science presentation that took place on October 18th. Grades KG-8 th observed and participated in several interactive Science related demonstrations. The office staff could hear the children s excitement all the way in the office! Alhamdulillah, Picture Day was a success. We will notify parents on re-take day for those students who were absent or who are unsatisfied with the proof. A representative from the Office of the Secretary of State visited our school on the 22 nd of October to discuss with our students Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety and Middle School Traffic Safety. Our students learned many valuable lessons and will apply them all to their everyday lives InshaAllah. 2 School Newsletter Page 2 of 6 Discover As part of our Fundraising efforts for Peoria Islamic Community Center Project, which includes School and Gym Building in Phase1, InshaAllah, we are planning to have an exclusive SISTERS-ONLY fundraising dinner. This is going to be a first time unique event where only the sisters will be participating, InshaAllah. Wonder Imagine InshaAllah Sisters can donate Money or Jewelry. If they cannot afford to donate for whatever reason, still their presence and dua will be needed. Explore All the sisters We are encouraged have started to participate to use the in this Gym! event and make sincere dua that Allah (swt) will bless this project and make it a source of good for all Muslims and protect it from all that is evil, Get Ameen. your smiles ready! October 12, 2010 is School Picture Day! Professional photographers from Inter-Studio When: Saturday, will be taking Nov 6th our pictures. Order forms were sent out Time: October 5:00 1, p.m :00 Parents p.m. will be able to choose from a variety of backgrounds Where: PICC and Building packages. Gym (4125 W Charter Oak Dr.) Please remember to dress your children Ticket accordingly Price: $20 to catch (Adults), these $10 (10 years and up) memorable times. The Daarul Uloom Islamic School Motto: Always striving for knowledge, faith, and morality. InshaAllah, beginning December 1 st, Daarul Uloom will host its first Martial Arts after-school sports club. Our Martial Arts program is scheduled to be a 6 week session whereby students in grades 1-8 will have an opportunity to learn various martial art techniques and self-defense exercises. The sign-up sheet for this activity will be located on the bulletin board in the main entrance. The deadline is November 19 th. Dates: Every Wednesday between December 1 st -January 19 th Time: 3:30-4:30 Location: PICC Building Gym Cost: $30/student Instructor: Br. Hisham Jaber & Br. 3 InshaAllah, Parent/Teacher conferences will take place on Friday, November 19 th. Sign-up sheets for all grades will be located on the main entrance bulletin board. Please record the time in which you have signed up for so that we may stay on schedule as much as possible. Value of the Month: Responsibility We will continue to discuss various Character Education traits during morning announcements. I will include information for the trait we are working on in this newsletter every month. I encourage families to extend the discussions about the traits at home. The traits for this month are listed below: Be responsible towards Allah (swt) before anybody else. Be responsible for your body, your belongings, and the environment. Be responsible for your actions, duties, school, and knowledge. Be responsible for your time and your money. 4 Congratulations to Mrs. Farghaly, Mrs. Mizyed, and to the youngest students of DU, PreK1! They are the proud winners of the Gold Dustpan Award for the Month of October. The Golden Dustpan Award is given to the cleanest classroom throughout the entire month. Keep up the good work! For Teacher of the Month award, we would like to nominate Rabha Mizyed, our PreK1 assistant. As long as we have known Rabha, she has been one of the hardest working assistant teachers. Being the first to arrive to school, helping kids adjust to their first year in school, and her dedication in helping the kids memorize their Surahs. Congratulations Rabha because you have earned it! Jazakum Allah Khayran Mrs. Nickat Farheen has been awarded Volunteer of the Month. MashaAllah, she has volunteered numerous times throughout the month of October. May Allah (swt) accept all her hard work and effort, Inshallah!

5 To the anonymous person or persons who sent the DU staff the beautiful bouquet of roses and delicious sweets: Jazakum Allah Khairan for that wonderful surprise! It really brightened our day and we wish we can thank you in person for such a thoughtful gift. The poem truly touched our hearts and reminded us on how our efforts are appreciated in the community. We have two valuable items in the Lost & Found. If you are missing a single black car key, please stop by the office. It was located near the dumpster in the parking lot. In addition, we have a pair of pink eyeglasses that have not been claimed. All other lost and found items may be found under the red table in the main entrance hall. We have quite a collection of clothes already. Last year s yearbook is just about ready for print so order yours now! The yearbook is for the school year, about 48 pages, and in full-color. The cost is $30. Please put your payment in a labeled envelope: 1. Yearbook 2. Your CHILD s name 3. Grade that he/she was in LAST year Please label with the above information. You may send cash or check. Make checks payable to Joey Syed (Sister Joey). Please drop your payment off at Daarul Uloom no later than November 5 th. Yearbooks will be distributed November 19 th, Insha Allah.

6 We are announcing several opportunities in which parents may fulfill their Parent Volunteer Hours for this semester and as you know, the end of the semester is fast approaching. Just as a reminder, the Parent Volunteer Program requires for each family to volunteer 10 hours per semester. Our school secretary is keeping record of all those parents who have volunteered thus far. Jazakum Allah khayran to those who are so generous to invest their time at DU. Please know that the board, staff, and I appreciate your volunteerism. May Allah (swt) accept all your efforts. Please choose from the following opportunities. We are requesting assistance with installing blinds in the classroom windows of DU. We have a rolling cart that needs to be assembled. We also need assistance with decorating the school in preparation for Eid. Mrs. Elhouar will be keeping a record of your hours as they are completed.
