Christ our God, You are the Life that dawned from the grave, though the tomb was sealed. Through closed doors You came to the Apostles. You are the Resurrection of all.

Though You went down into the tomb, You destroyed Hades' power, and You rose the victor, Christ God, saying to the myrrh-bearing women, "Hail!

Christ our God, You are the Life that dawned from the grave, though the tomb was sealed. Through closed doors You came to the Apostles. You are the Resurrection of all. And, You renewed us through them with an upright spirit, according to Your great mercy. Though You went down into the tomb, You destroyed Hades' power, and You rose the victor, Christ God, saying to the myrrh-bearing women, "Hail!" and granting peace to Your disciples, You who raise up the fallen. 3 ST THOMAS SUNDAY Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh To-day we are keeping the day of St Thomas the Apostle. Too often we remember him only as a doubter; indeed he is the one who questioned the message which the other Apostles brought to him when they said: Christ is risen! We have seen Him alive! But he is not one who doubted throughout his life or who remained unfaithful to the fullness of the divine revelation of Christ. We must remember that when the Apostles and the Lord heard of the illness of Lazarus, Christ said to them: Let us return to Jerusalem. To which the others said: But the Jews wanted to kill you there. Why should we return? Only Thomas the Apostle answered: Let us go with Him and die with Him. He was prepared not only to be His disciple in words, not only to follow Him as one follows a teacher, but to die with Him as one dies with a friend and, if necessary, for a friend. So, let us remember his greatness, his faithfulness, his wholeness. But what happened then when after the Resurrection of Christ, the Apostles said to the one who had not seen Christ risen, that they had actually seen the risen Christ? Why did he not accept their message? Why did he doubt? Why did he say that he must have proofs, material proofs? Because when he looked at them, he saw them rejoicing in what they had seen, rejoicing that Christ was not dead, rejoicing that Christ was alive, rejoicing that victory had been won. Yet, when he looked at them he saw no difference in them.. These were the same men, only full of joy instead of fear. And Thomas said: Unless I see, unless I probe the Resurrection, I cannot believe you. Is it not the same thing that anyone can say to us who meets us? We proclaimed the Resurrection of Christ, passionately, sincerely, truthfully, a few days ago. We believe in it with all our being; and yet, when people meet us in our homes, in the street, in our place of work, anywhere, do they look at us and say: Who are these people? What has happened to them? The Apostles had seen Christ risen, but the Resurrection had not become part of their own experience. They had not come out of death into eternal life. So it is also with us; except with the saints, when they see them, they know that their message is true. What is it in our message that is not heard? Because we speak, but are not. We should be so different from people who have no experience of the living Christ, risen, who has shared His life with us, who sent the Holy Spirit to us as, in the words of C.S. Lewis, a living person is different from a statue. A statue may be beautiful, magnificent, glorious, but it is stone. A human being can be much less moving in his outer presence, yet he is alive, he is a testimony of life. So let us examine ourselves. Let us ask ourselves where we are. Why is it that people who meet us never notice that we are limbs of the risen Christ, temples of the Holy Spirit? Why? Each of us has got to give his own reply to this question. Let us, each of us, examine ourselves and be ready to answer before our own conscience and do what is necessary to change our lives in such away that people meeting us may look at us and say: Such people we have never seen. There is something about them that we have never seen in anyone. What is it? And we could answer: It is the life of Christ abroad in us. We are His limbs. This is the life of the Spirit in us. We are His temple. Amen.

4 من أنوار الفصح أن نعي د لفصح الرب العظيم لهو أن نقبل الحياة التي و هبناها مج ان ا ونمد أنوارها في حياتنا يوم ا فيوم ا. فالمسيح قام حق ا. هذه قيمة الوجود في عالم أ عطي أن يسعى إلى أن يكون هلل وحده. من خصائص امتداد أنوار الفصح أن ندرك أن نا هلل أو ال إذ ا. وأن نا هلل تعني أن هللا فينا عاد ال يريد أن يسكن إال فينا. هذا ال يعني انفصاال عن الحياة الكنسي ة بل يطلبها أبد ا. فالمسيحي الفصحي هو الذي ال يسمح لنفسه بأن يفوته لحظة أن قو ة القيامة إن ما تبقى فينا باندماجنا في حياة جماعة اإلخوة. سنقتبس من أنوار الفصح ثالثة أمثلة إنجيلي ة تبي ن لنا كيف يدوم سريان قو ة الفصح فينا. أو ل هذه األمثلة ما جرى في حادثة تلميذي عم اوس )لوقا 31-42: 13(. فهذه في قراءتنا إي اها تعو دنا أن نراها صورة للحدث اإلفخارستي المحيي. فالرب الذي ظهر الثنين من تالميذه مشى معهما على الطريق وأخذ يعل مهما ثم عر فهما بنفسه عندما كسر الخبز قب ل أن يختفي عنهما. ولكن هذه القراءة على أهم ي ة مدلوالتها تفترض أن نتبع نور امتدادها أي أن التلميذين بعد أن عرفا يسوع "قاما في تلك الساعة عينها ورجعا إلى أورشليم فوجدا األحد عشر مجتمعين وكانوا يقولون إن الرب قد قام وتراءى لسمعان. فرويا )هما( ما حدث في الطريق وكيف عرفاه عند كسر الخبز". وهذا الذي يبي ن أن هذين التلميذين قب ل أن يلتقي الرب بهما على طريق عم اوس كانا قد قر را أن كل شيء قد أنهاه صلب يسوع وموته أي كانا قد تركا الجماعة الرسولي ة يبي ن تالي ا أن الرب الحي إن ما دفعهما بتعليمه وخبزه إلى أن يعودا إلى الجماعة في أورشليم. ويمكننا مم ا نقلناه هنا بين هاللين أن نالحظ أن التالميذ في أورشليم كانوا يخبرون أن الرب قد قام وأن العائدي ن إليهم قد شاركا في شهادة اإلخبار. فالفصح أن نبقى ندرك أن حياة هللا إن ما تقوى فينا بالتزامنا حياة اإلخوة أبد ا وتالي ا بتوافق الشهادة إللهنا الح ي. من طبيعة امتداد الفصح أيض ا أن نحيا أنقياء بانتظار الرب اآلتي. كل نا نعتقد أن الرب جد دنا بفصحه. وهذا صحيح. ولكن هذا الصحيح يفترض منه أن نقطع نحن أنفسنا أي حلف مع الخطأ. عندما روى يوحن ا اإلنجيلي خبر ترائي يسوع لتالميذه على شاطئ بحيرة طبري ة قد م له هكذا: "وتراءى لهم على هذا النحو. كان قد اجتمع سمعان بطرس وتوما الذي يقال له التوأم ونتائيل وهو من قانا الجليل وابنا زبدى وآخران من تالميذه" )43: 3 و 4 (. ماذا أردنا من نقل هذه الرواية بعد تمهيد يحث نا على أن نرى امتداد الفصح في أن نختار النقاء أبد ا ما أردناه ي ظهره ترتيب األسماء. لنراجع: بطرس ثم توما ثم نتنائيل... طبع ا هذا رب ما نراه ترتيب ا طبيعي ا. بمعنى أن بطرس في غير مشهد يظهر فيه يصر التراث اإلنجيلي على أن يقد مه. ولكن هذا ال يمنعنا من أن نذكر هنا أن بطرس هو الذي أنكر يسوع وأن توما الذي شك فيه... الترتيب من هذه الوجهة يبدأ ب من أخطأا وتابا إلى هللا. أيض ا هنا يجب أن نرى أن محب ة التوبة أي خيار النقاء الدائم الذي وهبنا إي اه الرب الحي ال يدوم لنا بسوى أن نندمج في حياة اإلخوة. بطرس ثم توما ثم نتنائيل الذي و صف بأن ه "ال غش فيه" )يوحن ا 24( 3: ثم ابنا زبدى يوحن ا الحبيب وأخوه يعقوب... إن ها إيقونة الجماعة التي أدركت أن جد ة الفصح إن ما خيار يدوم لنا بأن نعي أنفسنا خطأة محبوبين )أو خطأة يتوبون( في جماعة إخوة كل شأنهم أن ينتظروا أن يظهر لهم الرب بمجده. ثم الفصح يمتد بقبول الرب شريكنا في كل ما يعترينا في األرض من ألم وظلم وقهر. كل نا نذكر حادثة ظهور الرب لتالميذه مر ة ثم أخرى بعد أن أصر توما الرسول على أن يرى جراح صليبه: آثار المسامير والحربة )أنظر: إنجيل اليوم(. لن نعل ق على ما في هذين الظهورين اللذين تم ا يوم األحد من تأكيد أن الرب إن ما يخصبنا بفصحه في غير لقاء إفخارستي )القد اس اإللهي ( بل سنحمل ما فيهما من داللة رائعة تبي ن أن الرب ارتضى أن يتنازل إلى أن يشاركنا في كل شيء ما عدا الخطيئة. إذا دق قنا في هذين الظهورين فلن نرى بوضوح ظاهر أن توما بطلبه أراد أن يتبي ن أن الرب شريكنا في كل شيء. طلبه كان يريد منه أن يلمس لمس اليد أن المسيح قام حق ا. ولكن هل ما نطلبه يحد مدى كشوفات الرب لقد أجمع التراث المسيحي على أن عالمات آالم المسيح التي ظل ت ملتصقة بجسده المن رور هي داللة ساطعة على أن مشيئته العظمى أن ندرك أن ه يحمل آالمنا معنا. في العادة نحن في أوان األلم والقهر نرغب في أن ينقذنا الرب. وهذه رغبة صالحة ومشروعة. ولكن المسيح الحي فيما يريدنا أن نبقى على رغبتنا ينتظر أن نرتقي إلى أن ه معنا في أوان األلم وغير آن. فمشكلة األلم الذي يحدثه المرض مثال ال يحصرها ما يخل فه من أوجاع جسدي ة أو نفسي ة بل تبدو أيض ا في دو امة العزلة الرهيبة التي يدخلنا فيها. وإذ ا الفصح ممدود ا أن نستدر من حقيقة أن المسيح قام أن ه بات معنا معنا أبد ا. في هذا الفصح العظيم كسر لنا يسوع كل ظالم بعدنا وخطئنا وعزلتنا. هذه التي هي نوع من موت أخذها الرب على عاتقه وكتب على أجسادنا بمداد دمه أن نا له. أن نعي د للفصح جميل أن نعي د له. لكن األجمل أن نحيا في عيد دائم. األجمل أن نحمل معنا إلى أي امنا أن الرب أحيانا من كل ظالم يترب ص بنا أو يضربنا. واألجمل األجمل أن نسرح في مدى هذا الجمال ونصد ق أن نا به غدونا أبناء النور. )من نشرة رعيتي(

5 Acts of the Apostles 5:12-20 IN THOSE DAYS, many signs and wonders were done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon's Portico. None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high honor. And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and pallets, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed. But the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and filled with jealousy they arrested the apostles and put them in the common prison. But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out and said, "Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life." الرسالة: أعمال الرسل 1::2-5: في تلك األيام جرت على أيدي الرسل آيات وعجائب كثيرة في الشعب وكانوا كلهم بنفس واحدة في رواق سليمان ولم يكن أحد من اآلخرين يجترئ أن ي خالطهم. لكن كان الشعب ي عظ مهم وكانت جماعات من رجال ونساء ينضم ون بكثرة مؤمنين بالرب حتى إن الناس كانوا ي خرجون بالمرضى الى الشوارع ويضعونهم على فرش وأسر ة ليقع ولو ظ ل بطرس عند اجتيازه على بعض منهم. وكان يجتمع ايض ا الى اورشليم جمهور المدن التي حولها يحملون مرضى ومعذ بين من أرواح نجسة فكانوا ي شف ون جميعهم. فقام رئيس الكهنة وكل الذين معه وهم من شيعة الصد وقيين وامتألوا غيرة. فألقوا أيديهم على الرسل وجعلوهم في الحبس العام. ففتح مالك الرب أبواب السجن ليال وأخرجهم وقال: امضوا وقفوا في الهيكل وكل موا الشعب بجميع كلمات هذه الحياة. اإلنجيل: يوحنا 2::15-52 لما كانت عشية ذلك اليوم وهو أول األسبوع واألبواب مغلقة حيث كان التالميذ مجتمعين خوفا من اليهود جاء يسوع ووقف في الوسط وقال لهم: السالم لكم. فلما قال هذا أراهم يديه وجنبه ففرح التالميذ حين أبصروا الرب. وقال لهم ثانية: السالم لكم كما أ رسل ني اآلب كذلك انا أ رسلكم. ولما قال هذا نفخ فيهم وقال: خذوا الروح القدس. م ن غفرتم خطاياهم ت غفر لهم وم ن أمسكتم خطاياهم أ مسكت. أما توما أحد االثني عشر الذي يقال له التوأم فلم يكن معهم حين جاء يسوع فقال له التالميذ اآلخرون: إننا قد رأينا الرب. فقال لهم: إن لم أ عاين أثر المسامير في يديه وأضع إصبعي في أثر المسامير وأضع يدي في جنبه ال أؤمن. وبعد ثمانية ايام كان تالميذه ايضا داخال وتوما معهم فأتى يسوع واألبواب مغلقة ووقف في الوسط وقال: السالم لكم. ثم قال لتوما: هات إصبعك الى ههنا وعاين يدي وهات يدك وض ع ها في جنبي وال تكن غير مؤمن بل مؤمنا. أجاب توما وقال له: ربي وإلهي. قال له يسوع: ألنك رأيتني آمنت طوبى للذين لم ير وا وآمنوا. وآيات أ خ ر كثيرة ص ن ع يسوع لم ت كتب في هذا الكتاب. وأما هذه فقد ك تبت لتؤمنوا بأن يسوع هو المسيح ابن هللا ولكي تكون لكم اذا آمنتم حياة باسمه John 20:19-31 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them: "Peace be with you." When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them: "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him: "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them: "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in His side, I will not believe." Eight days later, His disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said: "Peace be with you." Then He said to Thomas Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered Him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to Him: "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
