1 Jesus and a Woman from Samaria Scripture: John 4:5-9, 25-30, Bible Memory: 1 John 4:7 Love each other.... Love comes from God. (ICB) Love one another.... Love is of God. (KJV) Focus: Lesson 12 Heart to Heart Teacher Devotion Children need to learn that not only does Jesus love them and the people they know, but He also loves people in other lands who speak different languages and practice unfamiliar customs. Jesus love is big enough to encompass everyone everywhere, but it s also personal enough for each person to be sure that he or she is included. Bible Background for the Teacher Samaria was the province located between Judea and Galilee, but Galileans traveling from Jerusalem would often cross over the Jordan River and into Perea to avoid encounters with the Samaritans, whom they hated. Jesus broke all tradition and asked a woman from Samaria for a drink of water. At that time it was taboo for a man to speak to a strange woman in public. The woman s belief that Jesus is the Christ is indicated by her rush to tell others about Him.
