As I write to you, it's Tuesday, the day before my mother's service and already we've just been overwhelmed with the kindness of so many. I'm grateful for each of you.

When I got the call last Thursday that my mom had been taken to the Emergency Room, I left quickly for Ft. Worth and dropped everything on the rest of our team.

I wanted to say thank you for the many kind calls, s, text messages and notes we've received this week. As I write to you, it's Tuesday, the day before my mother's service and already we've just been overwhelmed with the kindness of so many. I'm grateful for each of you. I've said many times to others "Moments like this are why we exist as the First Family." That's never been more true for me than now. When I got the call last Thursday that my mom had been taken to the Emergency Room, I left quickly for Ft. Worth and dropped everything on the rest of our team. I want to say thanks to them for picking it up. A special word of gratitude to Robbie Boyd and Cory Brand for stepping in so admirably with such little notice. My mom lived an extraordinary life. Although she was fiercely independent, she did her best work in serving people. She did not want nor did she need the spotlight - she was content to give that role to her children - but her faithful and passionate service made it possible for others to have the opportunities we enjoy. I remember so clearly when I was a senior in high school. My guidance counselor told me I needed to skip college and go to trade school to become a welder. That's honorable work but not where I felt like God had called me. When I told my mom, she said "That woman's crazy! We'll just see about that!" Her confidence in me gave me such courage to try. I'm deeply grateful the Lord gave me to my mom and even more grateful that, in his good time and mercy, He took her home around 2 am Monday morning. She had suffered enough through her battle with kidney cancer and it was time. What I'm most grateful for is that this isn't goodbye - just see you later. First family, thanks for walking with us through this - God has put us together for moments just like this. Your servant, Darin This Sunday, March 18 8:25 & 11:05 a.m. Milestone #4 - JOY Psalm 126 Dr. Darin Wood 6:00 p.m. Dr. Wood will be preaching Announcing a Candidate for Minister of Media and Communications, Terry Parrish Terry Parrish will be coming in view of a call as Minister of Media and Communications this Sunday, March18, and will be introduced in all three of the morning services. He comes on the recommendation and approval of the Personnel Committee; and the endorsement of the Church Council. Pray for God s leadership when the body of FBC convenes for a called business meeting to vote on Terry s call to come to FBC as the Minister of Media and Communications following the evening service Sunday, March 18. My journey with Christ began as a young child going to church with my mother and three siblings because, well, that s just what you did! But along the way while memorizing scripture verses and singing fun, catchy songs I developed a true desire to understand more about God. At the age of twelve I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and dedicated my life to serving Him in any way I could. To date, my journey has been both exciting and, at times, daunting but it has never been dull and continues to be incredibly rewarding! Because we serve a God of excellence I believe we should present the Gospel with excellence in an unobtrusive yet engaging and creative way. Utilizing available technology is a valuable tool to that end. But equipment and technology is of no use, without people. So, developing and training volunteers to reach their God-given potential as individuals, and as part of a team that can make an impact for now and for eternity; is truly my passion. I am looking forward to working shoulder to shoulder with the Pastor, staff and leadership to serve God and the wonderful people of First Baptist Church. My wife, Donna and I have been married for 21 years and are blessed with two wonderful children. Annah, 16 and Jena, 13.
