The focus of the day was painting and electrical work - painting all the exterior surfaces of the camp site is an ongoing focus for the next 12 months and further electrical work is required. During the day, the Camp Fletcher Managers, Ben and Carolyn May, received a very generous individual gift to support the ongoing ministry of the site. Subsequently, a further generous gift has been received from one of our FCC churches and these gifts are greatly appreciated.

Musical items were presented by Jon and Sue Van Vorst (Below Left) and Skye Sutherland (Below Right). On Sunday, 29 October (Reformation Sunday), Kurri Kurri Congregational Church celebrated its 113th Church Anniversary. The celebrations included morning and evening services and a Fellowship Tea with a generous abundance of fine cooking. The speaker was the FCC President, Rev Alan Best, and both services highlighted the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation and featured musical items by members of the church. The day was a fitting celebration of God s grace and blessing on the Kurri Kurri church since Rev Dr Peter Back is available to serve FCC Churches in a short-term locum capacity. To contact Peter, phone

10 Page 10 A TRIBUTE REV IVAN S. STEBBINS The Rev Ivan Stanley Stebbins was called home to be with his Lord on 26 December, 1973, at the age of 88 years. He was born to Eleanor Summers Stebbins (Binger) and John Stephen Stebbins and had four brothers and one sister. Ordained to the Christian Ministry in the Glenhuntly Congregational Church, Victoria, in 1910, Mr Stebbins served in Congregational Churches in Victoria, NSW, Queensland and New Zealand over a period of no less than 62 years. Indeed, it was little more than a year prior to his death that declining health forced him to relinquish his work as Acting Minister at Brighton-le-Sands, NSW. Born at Bridgewater, Victoria, in 1885, Mr Stebbins served seven years apprenticeship as a linotype mechanic on the Bendigo Independent. He began lay-preaching at 17 years of age and three years later, served for 15 months as a Home Missionary at Bruthen, Victoria. Subsequently, he was trained at the Victorian Congregational College, and so began an outstanding ministry marked by deep devotion to Jesus Christ, simple faith, fine Biblical preaching, genuine pastoral concern and a warm friendliness that endeared him to all who knew him. In 1912, Mr Stebbins was married to Miss Mary Roadknight who was a wonderful helpmate to him for the next fifty-three years they had two sons and one daughter. Of Mamie it could be said, as of Mr Stebbins, she looked for the best in everyone and had a word of encouragement for all. Mr Stebbins was a keen supporter of evangelism and the evangelical cause. In New Zealand from , he was closely associated with Rev Lionel B. Fletcher. He was Acting Dean ( ) and later, Dean ( ) of the Sydney Bible Training Institute. From its inception, he was vitally interested in the work of the Congregational Board of Evangelism (NSW), and his warm support and wise counsel were of inestimable value and encouragement to the Board throughout its years. True friend, beloved pastor, faithful servant of Jesus Christ, the Rev Ivan Stebbins has gone to be with the Lord he loved and served. Well done, good and faithful servant. From an article by Rev Ray Best in Christian Activity, magazine of the Congregational Board of Evangelism, NSW, February, Additional details, June 2017.

14 Page 14 ARGENTINA, NOVEMBER 2017 As I reflect on the Mid-Term Meeting and visits to churches, the word that immediately comes to mind is LIFE The World Evangelical Congregational Fellowship held a Mid-Term Meeting in Urdinarrain, Argentina, on Wednesday 8 to Thursday 9, November. Urdinarrain is a small rural town several hours (by bus) north of Buenos and the home of the Congregational Seminary, where the Meeting was held. The Meeting was an opportunity for members of the Congregational Churches in Argentina (Iglesia Evangélica Congregacional en la Argentina a fellowship of about 120 churches) to get to know some members of the WECF family; the IEC was accepted as a member fellowship at the 11th Triennial Meeting at Orlando, USA, in February The Mid-Term Meeting also provided an opportunity for WECF members to get to know our Argentinian brethren. The Meeting was a wonderful experience and the visitors from other countries were welcomed with open arms. Some of the visitors were also privileged to present the four key messages:
15 Page 15 Wednesday morning: Rev Mike Plant, UK (WECF President) Discipleship; Wednesday evening: Rev Dr Ron Hamilton, USA (Vice-President) Church Planting; Thursday morning: Rev Dr Steve Gammon, USA (Treasurer) Evangelism; Thursday evening: Rev Alan Best, Aust. (Secretary) Church Growth. The Meeting was chaired by Rev Armando Nass (President, IEC) and a devotional message was brought by Rev Luis Block (Vice- President). The evening meeting on Wednesday 8 was held in the Urdinarrain Congregational Church and wonderful music was provided and led by the church s large and impressive choir. Following the planting of the first Argentinian Congregational Church in Aldea San Antonio, in 1922, churches were planted across the country and this church planting movement continued into Southern Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. It was a delight to meet fellow evangelical Congregationalists from these countries. The Mid-Term Meeting also featured reports from Congregational fellowships in various countries: IEC Argentina; visiting WECF fellowships (Australia - FCC, Brazil IECB, UK - EFCC and USA CCCC); Manipur, India (presented by WECF Ambassador, Rev David Saunders, UK); Macedonia (presented by Rev Mike Plant); and Congregational fellowships that are not yet members of the WECF (Paraguay, Uruguay and Southern Brazil). Following the Meeting, the overseas visitors were privileged to visit several churches in surrounding regions on Friday 10 and Saturday 11, and an evening service was held in the Aldea San Antonio Congregational Church (pastored by Armando Nass) on Friday. The service featured great congregational singing, a short presentation by a town official and a message by Mike Plant.
16 Page 16 On Sunday 12, the WECF party travelled by car to Los Polvorines Congregational Church on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, where we were privileged to share in the church s 60th Anniversary Service and Lunch. It was a joyous celebration and featured wonderful music congregational singing and several items by Los Manantiales, the church s resident Argentinian folk-style group (singing Christian lyrics). The speaker was Armando Nass, who had previously served as the church s pastor. As I reflect on the Mid-Term Meeting and visits to churches, the word that immediately comes to mind is LIFE new life in Christ, this life expressed in exuberant corporate worship and shared life in Christian community. To spend time with our Argentinian brothers and sisters was a great privilege and a memorable experience. Alan Best (FCC President)
