2 We bring to you O gracious Lord, the joy and some$mes the pain of moving on. We thank you that you are with us always. Let us pray for all who are making new beginnings at this $me. Amen Circuit Memorial Service The Circuit Memorial service this year will take place at 4pm on Sunday 5 November at The Mee$ng Place, Egremont. This is an opportunity to take $me to remember loved ones who have died and to give thanks for their lives. Over the years I have found this annual service to be very helpful; for me it s a good space to remember both my parents. The bereavement doesn t have to be at all recent - my dad died over twenty years ago. I encourage you to try this service at least once. Alec Bounds We were encouraged at Synod to pray this prayer each day: Generous God, transform us day by day, to be evermore open to You. Amen Circuit Directory I have been informed that the address for Avril Done, in the Moresby Parks sec$on of the circuit directory is incorrect, and it should be rosiecards1@yahoo.com so would you all correct your copies please. 6 We pray for Love, we pray for Peace, we pray for Joy and we thank you Lord for the hope we have in You. Amen (Inspired by a church banner I saw last weekend) Telling Stories Lent Course 2018 Stories are immensely powerful they can charm, beguile, mo$vate, challenge, encourage...so it is no surprise that so much of Jesus teaching is based around stories. Next March, across Cumbria, we will be encouraging people to discover the story of Jesus through Moving Mountains. As it takes place during Lent, it offers us a great opportunity through the ecumenical Lent groups that many churches run to look at some of the stories that shape how we help others discover more of God. Seen through some of the stories of Moses, we will be looking at My Story (what has God done in my life?), God s Story (what is the good news that we celebrate?), The Story (praying for all that is happening during Moving Mountains) and Our Story (what is happening in our own communi$es?) as well as having an opportunity to hear some of the stories of what has been happening during Moving Mountains. The course will be available from early January to download, in good $me for the beginning of Lent any ques$ons, do get in touch: mike.talbot@carlislediocese.org.uk Mike Talbot - Evangelism Enabler For the song of birds For the colour of flowers For the beauty of the bu erfly For the peace of the hillside For a gentle breeze on our face. We give you thanks, Lord. And when our lives are such that we cannot find peace, may we feel the joy of these things once again, one day, we pray. Amen Page 7
7 Highlights of the Circuit Meeng I was not able to a end the Circuit Mee$ng, which took place on 20 September, so these highlights are based on the dra( minutes. This was another open mee$ng because of the important issue of how Circuits are organised in West Cumbria - presumably the end of the Whitehaven Circuit is nigh! A video was shown, featuring Rev Richard Teal, Chair of the Cumbria Methodist District, who introduced the issue by referring to the shortage of ministers. The Circuit Mee$ng discussed the pros and cons of the main op- $on of joining with other circuits to form a larger circuit covering the same area as the Anglican Archdeaconry in West Cumbria. Alistair was thanked for all his work as circuit treasurer. Mandy Taylor would take responsibility for finance with Alec Bounds ac$ng as bookkeeper. They were thanked for volunteering. David Andrews was presented with a gi( to thank him for his work as circuit steward, most recently as senior steward. David Davies was appointed as a circuit steward. Alec Bounds From the Deparng Editor Thank you to Jackie Davies for the prayers in this Link. This is a very short Link issue, but I m sure that there is plenty to be shared in future issues, helping to link each church with all the others in the Circuit. As I have now become the Circuit Bookkeeper (somebody really has to pay the bills!), I don t have $me to do all the things I m responsible for, so I have decided that I need to resign as Editor of Link - this is my last edion. If you would like to volunteer for this role, please speak to me by the end of October. Alec Bounds, boundsuk@gmail.com Page 8
