Unanimously passed. d) Independent Examiner It was proposed that Burton Sweet be appointed as our Independent Examiner. Reports Agreed by show of hands. a) Fabric Report (Churchwardens) including any questions. Alison Edmonds presented the fabric report from the Churchwardens to the meeting. Details of the report were included in the Annual Review. Alison particularly wanted to thank people for their support to her and to Phil May, the Building Team, cleaners, coffee team, flower team, welcomers and assistant wardens, the sacristans and in particular Mary Parsons. The technicians, gardeners, treasurer, singers, musicians, safeguarding officer all these people have contributed to the smooth running of the church. Alison encouraged people to support all these areas of church life. b) Electoral Roll (Officer Margaret May) This year the Electoral Roll was revised. I We have had 15 leave and 11 join. Therefore the confirmed number for 2017 is 145. It was noted that a further 8 people had applied to go onto the roll after the closing date and so won t be counted until the next update in c) Financial Report (Treasurer - Andrew Wood) including any questions. Andrew shared a verse from Chronicles and highlighted the importance of stewardship which sets the context of what the numbers are about. Playgroup finances update. Playgroup operational finances are kept and accounted for separately. Our largest outgoing is Parish Share. For 2017 the PCC agreed s Income Standing Order income is about 100k per annum, which is about 80% of our income. SO income has decreased over the last

5 few years. As at Dec 2016 there were 56 standing orders and over the course of the last 12 months it has reduced by about 1k per month. We are very tax efficient and reclaim all Gift Aid available. In 2016 there was a suplus of 13k, which can be accounted for by the gift day response and 1 or 2 large one-off donations. In 2017 the PCC is budgeting a deficit of 14k. Approximately 20k per annum is made from hiring the hall and building. Parish Share is our largest expenditure. PCC have decided to reduce Parish Share in 2017 to 75k. Staff costs have been a large part of the expenditure and are important part of the ministry of St Matthews. Mission support is 10% of income and is ringfenced to support our mission partners. Maintenance costs were high in 2016 related to the heating and alarm systems. The playgroup had a difficult year in 2015 but 2016 was a good recovery year and made a surplus again of 6.5k after paying 9k for hall rental. There may be challenges for the playgroup in the future with the introduction of 30 hours nursery provision per week per child and whether this would be possible given our hall availability. Andrew highlighted that reserves had been boosted in 2016 by a legacy gift which leaves us in a much stronger financial position. Ruth Rimmer thanked Andrew for his work and for his input to this meeting. Andrew thanked Martin Lings who manages the accounts on a day to day basis which is a huge amount of work for which Andrew is very grateful. This will pass over to Martin Kilb once the bank mandate can be set up. 6. APCM report There were no particular questions. Marcus thanked people for their input and highlighted how encouraging it was to reflect on the past year. Marcus responded to a question about churchmanship and explained that he was reluctant to label St Matthew s as one thing or another but wanted to be welcoming to all. There was also a question about the level of engagement with other churches and with social action across the city which there was some concern about because people hadn t heard about things through St Matthews. Marcus explained that it is taking time to network and make connections but that this is the hope for the future.

6 7. Vicar Marcus thanked everybody who has a role and contributes to the life of St Matthews. He particularly thanked Alison Edmonds again for her service as Churchwarden. 8. Closing Prayers
