1 1 D i v i s i o n a l N e w s l e t t e r 2nd of July th A M E S S A G E F R O M T H E D I V I S I O N A L L E A D E R S As you are reading this, I will be preparing to set sail for seven days of cruising and relaxation on the high seas. I am hoping that the seas will be calm and not that high. This reminded me of the Luke 8:22-25 narrative when the disciple encountered first the storm then the one who calmed the storm. 22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, Let us go over to the other side of the lake. So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, Master, Master, we re going to drown! He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 Where is your faith? he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him. No matter what life throws at us, we have in our life's boat the one who commands the storm and walks alongside us. One of my dad's favorite chorus which he often sang as I was growing up is I'm in his hands. I m in His hands, I m in His hands Whatever the future holds, I m in His hands The days I cannot see have all been planned for me. His way is best you see. I m in His hands. -Stanley Ditmer What an assurance this brings to us that we are in his hands. May God hold you one and all in his hands. Blessings, Tracey
2 2 AROUND THE DIVISION 2013 ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER COMMUNITY APPEAL This year, the launch of the Appeal is on 7th July, which coincides with NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week. It concludes five weeks later with Covenant Day on 11th August, which is also the United Nations International Day of the World's Indigenous People. During the five weeks of the Appeal the DVD series will bring you encouraging and vision casting stories. Commissioner James Condon launches the series and reveals his passion for this Appeal, along with encouraging all to donate as the Territory looks to raise $100,000. You will have an opportunity to intentionally support Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Ministry within The Salvation Army through this initiative as a sign of your commitment to unity & reconciliation in the Kingdom of God. Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander work continues to make a real difference in the immediate whilst we work towards a vision of a brighter future for our nation s first people. We do hope and pray as you see wonderful and inspiring stories from Cairns (Yarrabah), Mt Isa, Moree and the life journey of Uncle Vince Ross your eyes and heart will be opened to capture a vision of what can be for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters. We ask that you pause to reflect each week on the stories that will be presented over the course of the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Appeal. In prayerful consideration of your gift, we encourage you to willingly extend warmth, kindness & generosity to enable The Salvation Army to continue to provide opportunities to engage with the community in a meaningful way. Lt. Colonel Laurie Robinson the Secretary for Program writes, Thank you so much for your support in the past of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Appeal. Your encouragement and promotion to corps and social programs urging them to participate is vital. You have probably already commenced promoting this year's appeal which commences this coming Sunday 7 July and concludes on United Nations International Day of the World's Indigenous People Sunday 11 August. To help your ongoing promotion during the next few weeks the following link to the website will be of immense help Should you wish to see if a guest speaker is available to speak at your Corps during the appeal period, then please make direct contact with Adrian Kistan As you know funding for any ministry is tough and this includes Indigenous Ministries. Our Indigenous people are among our most hurting and vulnerable. They need Jesus. We are only scratching the surface of our ministry with them. We are wanting to build up improved relationships with them in every division and this requires dedicated personnel. Please join with us in this disciple making and freedom bringing endeavour. Please pray that we will effectively ministry to Indigenous youth and children and that there will be multitudes of Indigenous junior soldiers, soldiers and significant numbers of officers.
