Please continue to pray for her especially as her fall and fracture came so soon after her move to Skinner Street. 6 A note from the Elders. Martin writes: The summer time is a funny period for churches in this country. Typically the majority of church activities stop and people find other things to do. It s no different here at the Beacon Church. Most of our regular activities have stopped or taken on a simpler form. There has been no official Time Groups, although the Wednesday group may well have continued meeting. The midweek children's and youth work has stopped, as has preschool and most of the other groups that use our buildings. Sunday mornings are also a little different, the children and young people are all meeting together and we have seen smaller numbers in the adult congregation as people take holidays and enjoy days out. God however does not take a break over the summer and continues to work amongst his people. Many have been away to Christian camps, such as New Wine, Soul Survivor or Hants and Dorset youth camp. I trust God that over the next few weeks and months we will begin to hear of the amazing things that God is doing in his peoples live as they come back refreshed and enthused. I know in the Woolley household we had a funny week, with both Josh and Tim being out at camp. Things felt very strange for Fiona, Daniel and myself as the house was much quieter and calmer. Thankfully Josh and Tim came back in one piece, just slightly dirty and smelly, at least they had changed some of their clothes. As the summer now draws to a close be encouraged that the Elders have continued to meet, pray and seek God. We are trusting God for all he has for us as a church and I hope you too will join us in seeking God with all your hearts. Being prepared to worship him in all circumstances and giving glory to God in all we do. Philippians 4:4-8 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things.

7 Hi ladies, Hope you've all had a lovely summer and are looking forward to getting back to routines! For those who couldn't make the ladies group in July the collective idea was for a monthly Bible study/worship/fellowship - In addition to TIME groups NOT an alternative - focusing on empowering and building each other up as women of God and daughters of the King! These meetings will be on the 2nd Saturday of each month 9am-10.30am in the St. Andrew's Room. This will be reviewed at Christmas in order for us along with the Elders and minister to see how it's all going. We are really excited about starting our studies with Ruth. The next meeting is on Sat 10th Sept 9am. In preparation it would be great if you could have a read of Ruth - it's only 4 chapters don't worry! - and jot down any key themes or phrases that come to mind. See you on the 10th if not before! :)

8 Written by Vicky PG For the last 5 years I have been the Spiritual Leader along with a guy called James Bunyan, which basically means we do all the speaking and leading, as well as writing the study notes for the quiet times that each tent does in the morning. For the last 3 years we have been working our way through the Gospels. 2 years ago we did Luke, last year we did John and this year we have studied Mark s Gospel. Because not all of the young people who come are Christians, and some of those who are really struggle with making it to church etc, we really feel that it is our duty to make sure that while they are at camp, we give them as strong a foundation as possible. Camp this year, was no different, and it is always a pleasure and a privilege to see young people begin to get things for the first time, to really understand what it means for them, and ultimately see them choose to follow Jesus for the first time, or resolve to find a church to help them with the journey. I was really blown away by the response this year, and already a group of the girls, along with other female leaders have begun a group where they can chat openly and honestly and ask questions safely so that they can stay connected in between camps. We were also able to add to our number, other leaders and young people from our church, meaning the leaders from The Beacon Church this year included, Mark and Jane Maidment, Vicky and Daniel (with Freddie) PG, Steve Lay and Mark Wood along with Alison Meachin coming out each evening to come and Freddie sit so that both Daniel and I could do what we needed to do in the sessions. Thank you for your prayers over the time we were away, we absolutely could feel them, and absolutely needed them, as right from the first full day onwards, we knew that we were under spiritual attack. We are aware that every year when we are at camp we are raising our heads above the parapet more than usual and are open to more attack, however this year it was incredible obvious. Therefore we knew that we must be doing something right, why would the devil attack something that is inconsequential, right? On the Monday night when James was speaking, he was speaking about Jesus casting out the demons of Legion and sending them into the pigs. And was making the point that it was the most unfair fight in history, as Jesus is more powerful than anything. He started to make his final point, and really drive Gods power, sovereignty and grace home when the sound system when crazy literally for no reason. A few of us knew instantly what it felt like and began to pray around the tent and brilliantly the young people were still listening and hadn t lost focus... but certainly raised our awareness to be praying for protection. The activities were brilliant fun, and the young people were able to enjoy things like coasteering (jumping off cliffs into the sea!) horse-riding, paddle boarding giant late night bonfires as well as things like craft and music workshops on site. It really is such a humbling experience every year to connect back in with young people, hear in more detail what s been happening in their lives in the year in between, to hear about their faith in different circumstances, how their faith has grown, and helped them through. I really do love it. All in all, it s been a great summer so thankful to hear the stories of God s faithfulness from Discovery and from the other camps that our children and young people have been attending...what a faithful God have I!
