We, as a Parish Family, are so glad you are here! As sharers of the one baptism & the one Spirit of the Risen Christ, we have come together as the Parish Community of St. Mark the Evangelist to proclaim our identity as the People of God. The Eucharist is the center of our life and work together. Through the one bread, we become the one body of Christ, a living sacrifice of praise. In our worship of God, the Author of life and holiness, we proclaim our hope in the life of Christ s Resurrection; we open our hearts and minds to the Spirit of God dwelling in our midst. In our work, together, we seek - to enable our children to grow in the wisdom and knowledge of God; - to accompany our young sons and daughters on their journeys of discovery toward adulthood; - to deepen our faith commitment through prayer & study; - to be present to one another in the joys and sufferings, the victories and struggles of life; - to give witness to the Gospel of justice and compassion to our hurting world. 2 Brothers and Sisters- Our reading of Jesus Sermon on the Mount continues this week We are being called to be salt of the earth and light of the word people!!! Being salt of the earth means not to just be someone superficial or on the surface We know that when we cook, once salt is added, it seeps way down into whatever we are making, and brings about flavor!! It is so easy to just want to pass by those who are truly in need. We would rather just turn a blind eye and carry along with our day to day business but is that really Christ-like? As we are reminded to be salt of the earth people this week, maybe we will slow down a little bit and realize that if we take a few more minutes each day in prayer to God or spend a few more minutes being available to our children or someone who is in need, our very Christ-like presence may just be what they need for Christ s love to seep down into their soul!!! Or when we spend a few more minutes in prayer (or begin to take time each day to pray), Christ s love may seep even deeper into our own soul!! Being salt of the earth is the way of being light for the world as well. When Christ s love is tangible when we feel it at our core, it brings such great joy!!! When we see the gifts that God has given us even amidst the tragedies and uncertainties of life, we know full-heartedly the joy that comes from faith because we know that Christ s love will ALWAYS win in the end Love and life ALWAYS come out on top. And this radiant joy causes us to look for more and more opportunities to let Him be known. The prophet Isaiah gives us some great advice today. I think we would all do well to reflect on these words and how God may indeed be speaking to us. Is he calling me to serve Him in a new way? There are so many homeless.poor abandoned and forgotten people in the world Lord, where are you sending me?? What are you calling ME to do about it?? What is the Lord calling us as a parish to do about it?? I can assure you that he doesn't want our light and joy to be hidden but rather put on a high mountaintop for all to see!!! Share your bread with the hungry, shelter the oppressed and the homeless; clothe the naked when you see them, and do not turn your back on your own. Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your wound shall quickly be healed; your vindication shall go before you, and the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer, you shall cry for help, and he will say: Here I am! If you remove from your midst oppression, false accusation and malicious speech; if you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfy the afflicted; then light shall rise for you in the darkness, and the gloom shall become for you like midday. 3 Fundraising Team You?? We are in the process of organizing a FUNdraising Team here at St. Mark s and would like your help!! A new parish member, Diana, has lots of experience and drive in this area and wants to put together a team to plan and organize some great events here at St. Mark s to help with our mission and our upkeep of our fantastic facilities. We are looking at doing some wine tastings, golf tournaments parish bazaars??? The opportunities are endless!! But we need your help and involvement!!!! If interested in being part of this team, please send an to Fr Mike ASAP and he will put you in touch with Diana. Women s Retreat UPDATE: All Women of the Parish are invited to attend this year s Little Daughters of the Sacred Heart Retreat which will be held February s 17-19, at the Betania II Retreat Center in Medway, Massachusetts. Our theme this year is Pour Love In and our speakers will be Fr. Pat Patenaude from La Salette Shrine in Attleboro, MA as well as well known author and speaker Heidi Bratton. Registration forms are available at the Welcome Center and the deadline to register is February 10th. Any questions should be directed to Susanne at Live4Him@myfairpoint.net $500 Scholarship Award Offered A $500 Scholarship Award is being offered by the St. Mark's K of C to any High School senior member of the St. Mark's community pursuing higher education! Rules and applications for the 2017 Rosemarie R. Cox Scholarship award are currently available in the church entrance through April, as well as on the Council website, The application deadline is June 1st, So, don't be shy, please apply! Valentine s Dance!!! Our St. Mark s Marriage Ministry is putting on a Valentine s Dance for all couples!!! Bring your dancing shoes, as they will be bringing in a Ballroom Dance instructor to help you find your rhythm!!! The event will take place on Saturday, February 11 from 6-10 PM. Bring your own appetizer to share, and as always there will be plenty of food, wine, drinks, and music!! See you all there!! Please RSVP by February 7 to Vivian and Walt at vpaskow1@hotmail.com. St. Mark s Outreach Community Affairs and Social Justice Teams will have a meeting on Monday, February 6 at 7:00 PM in Room 104 in the Parish Center. Anyone interested in community outreach is welcome to attend. We will be sorting and packing the soup collected on Super bowl Sunday weekend and discussing future outreach projects for this year. 4 Poor Box for February Donations to the Poor Box for February will benefit those in need of assistance in purchasing fuel for the winter months. The Rockingham County Community Action organization ( will distribute our contributions to those in need. Thank you for your generosity. Next Adult Faith Formation Our next evening of Adult Faith Formation will be held in the lounge on Monday, February 13 at 7:00 PM. The topic for this evening will be Vocation: Single, Married, and Religious. Please join us that night for great fellowship and discussion. As always, wine, coffee, and apps!! See you all there!! Attention All Women!!!! Announcing the Spring Session of Grace Within! Classes will begin on Wednesday, April 5 from 7-9pm and continue weekly through May 24. There will be a Welcome Gathering on March 29. Grace Within is a small group spiritual growth process for women utilizing personal journals and led by peers. An empowering journey to your inner self, Grace Within is an invitation to understand how you can grow spiritually. Grace Within brings women together to share insights on eight topics from the journal, to pray and to discuss issues affecting our lives. Please join those of us who have already said yes to participating! Please pray that this ministry will blossom and strengthen our community. Youth St. Mark s Stay tuned to all the upcoming activities for Youth Ministry here at St. Mark s! Rumor has it that St. Mark s will be sending a group of youth to the Steubenville East conference this summer at UMass Lowell!!! This will be the first time ever that we will send a group from St. Mark s!!! There will be plenty more developments as well! Thanks to Brandon and Kate for making this ministry so vibrant!! The next High School Youth Night is planned for Sunday, February 19 at 6:00 PM. See you all there!!!! Religious Education News *9th & 10th Grade Confirmation students are reminded of their next meeting on Sunday, February 12h at 6:30 8:00 pm in the parish hall. *1st grade families are reminded of their child s next class on Thursday, February 16th at 4:30-5:45pm. Chapters should be completed at that time. Summer Religious Education classes will be held July 10 July 20th, 9 am noon daily for grades 2 through 8. *Registrations will be mailed to each registered family in February. In Loving Memory Please pray for Henry Malay, Father of Karen Flanders, and Jack Heavey, Uncle of Mary McQueeney. May God grant them eternal rest and may our prayers and support be a source of comfort and healing for their grieving family and friends. Couples Retreat. Save the Date!! On Saturday March 25th at 6:00 p.m. the Little Daughters of the Sacred Heart, in cooperation with St. Mark's Marriage Ministry, will be presenting an evening retreat for MARRIED and ENGAGED couples. This offering goes to offset what we are assessed each year by the diocese in support of Catholic Education in our state.
