1 Zion Lutheran Church Sunday October 22, 2017 We Prepare for Worship OPENING HYMN On Eagle s Wings 1) You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, who abide in His shadow for life, Say to the Lord: My refuge, my Rock in whom I trust! (Refrain) And He will raise you up on eagle s wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of His hand. 2) The snare of the fowler will never capture you, and famine will bring you no fear: Under His wings your refuge, His faithfulness your shield. (Refrain) WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS SHARING OF THE PEACE The peace of the Lord be with you always And also with you (Please share the Peace of the Lord with those around you, especially with any worshippers you may not know.) CALL TO WORSHIP The world tells us we need to be part of something big and bold; We belong to God. The world tells us to put our hope in wealth and success; We put our faith and trust in Jesus. The world tells us to see our own gain and satisfaction; We seek joy in the Spirit of God. Come, let us worship God, who leads us away from the ways of the world. Let us follow and live into the way of Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen. PRAYER OF THE DAY (in unison) Holy Jesus, our Companion in life, death and resurrection, call us into Your way of life. Guide us away from the ways of the world that tempt us to focus only on ourselves and our own gain. Keep us from the temptation to put ourselves above others, and instead open our minds to step into another s shoes, to see through another s point of view. May we be open to new ways of thinking, so that we might be reconciled and restored to one another. Lead us in Your ways of serving others, so that we might participate in your kingdom her on earth. In your precious name we pray. Amen. (Refrain) Faith of our fathers, holy faith, We will be true to Thee till death. 2) The martyrs, chained in prison dark, Were still in heart and conscience free; And blest would be their children's fate If they, like them, should die for Thee. (Refrain) 3) Faith of our fathers! We will love both friend and foe in all our strife; Proclaim Thee, too, as love knows how, by saving Word and faithful life. (Refrain) AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. 3 We Share in Christ s Meal WORDS OF CONSECRATION THE LORD S PRAYER (in unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION (All who believe that Christ died for their sins are welcome at the Table of Grace. Children who do not yet receive Communion receive a blessing. If you prefer grape juice, it is the clear liquid in the center of the tray.) Seek Ye First 1) Seek ye first the kingdom of God And His righteousness, And all these things Shall be added unto you, Allelu, alleluia. 2) Ask, and it shall be given unto you. 4 On the Wings of a Dove 1) Noah he drifted on the sea many days, He searched for land in various ways; Troubles he had some, but he wasn t forgotten. God sent down His love on the Wings of a Dove.
