1 Zion Lutheran Church Sunday, March 4, 2018 Pastor Katrina Walther presiding We Prepare for Worship OPENING HYMN I Love To Tell The Story (LBW #390) (Chorus) I love to tell the story; I ll sing this theme in glory And tell the old, old story Of Jesus and his love 1) I love to tell the story, Of unseen things above, Of Jesus and his glory, Of Jesus and his love. I love to tell the story, Because I know it s true; It satisfies my longing, As nothing else would do. (Chorus) 2) I love to tell the story, How pleasant to repeat What seems, each time I tell it, More wonderfully sweet! I love to tell the story, For some have never heard The message of salvation, From God s own holy Word. (Chorus) WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS SHARING OF THE PEACE The peace of the Lord be with you always And also with you (Please share the Peace of the Lord with those around you, especially with any worshippers you may not know.) ORDER OF CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Most merciful God, We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed; by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us and lead us so that we may delight in your will and walk in you ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen Almighty God, in his mercy, has given his Son to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
2 PRAYER OF THE DAY (in unison) Holy God, through your Son you have called us to live faithfully and act courageously. Keep us steadfast in your covenant of grace, and teach us the wisdom that comes only through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen REPRISE I Love To Tell The Story (LBW #390) (Chorus) I love to tell the story; I ll sing this theme in glory And tell the old, old story Of Jesus and his love 1) I love to tell the story, Of unseen things above, Of Jesus and his glory, Of Jesus and his love. I love to tell the story, Because I know it s true; It satisfies my longing, As nothing else would do. (Chorus) 3) I love to tell the story, For those who know it best Seem hungering and thirsting, To hear it like the rest. And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song, I ll sing the old, old story, That I have loved so long. (Chorus) CHILDREN S MESSAGE We Hear God s Word The First Reading Exodus 20:1-17 This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God! The Second Reading 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God! The Gospel Reading John 2:13-22 This is the Gospel of the Lord Thanks be to God! MESSAGE Pastor Katrina Walther We Respond to God s Grace SONG OF THE DAY Be Thou My Vision (WOV # 776) 1) Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that Thou art. Thou my best thought by day or by night, waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. 2) Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my soul s shelter, thou my high tower, raise thou me heav n-ward, O Pow r of my pow r. 3) Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise, thou mine inheritance, now and always; Thou, and thou only, first in my heart, great God of heaven, my treasure thou art. 4) Light of my soul, after victory won, may I reach heaven s joys, O heaven s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
3 AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen THE OFFERING Special music by the Zion Worship Team (The Noisy Offerings in March will be donated to ) OFFERTORY RESPONSE The Glory of These Forty Days (WOV # 657) 1) The glory of these forty days we celebrate with songs of praise; For Christ, through whom all things were made, himself has fasted and has prayed. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer. We Share in Christ s Meal WORDS OF CONSECRATION THE LORD S PRAYER (in unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION (All who believe that Christ died for their sins are welcome at the Table of Grace. Children who do not yet receive Communion receive a blessing. If you prefer grape juice, it is the clear liquid in the center of the tray.) Amazing Grace 1. Amazing grace how sweet the sound - That saved a wretch like me I once was lost, but now I'm found, Was blind, but now I see 2. 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed! 3. Thru many dangers, toils and snares I have already come; Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. 4. When we ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, We ve no less days to sing God s praise Than when we d first begun.
4 My God and I 1. My God and I go in the field together, we walk and talk as good friends should and do; We clasp our hands, our voices ring with laughter - My God and I walk thru the meadow s hue; We clasp our hands, our voices ring with laughter - My God and I walk thru the meadow s hue. 2. He tells me of the years that went before me, when heav n-ly plans were made for me to be, When all was but a dream of dim conception - To come to life, earth s verdant glory see; When all was but a dream of dim conception - To come to life, earth s verdant glory see. 3. My God and I will go for aye together, we ll walk and talk and jest as good friends do; This earth will pass, and with it common trifles - But God and I will go unendingly; This earth will pass, and with it common trifles - But God and I will go unendingly. For Those Tears I Died ( 1972 Bud John Songs, Inc. (ASCAP) (a div. of EMI Christian Music Publishing) CCLI License No ) 1) You said you'd come and share all my sorrows. You said you'd be there for all my tomorrows. I came so close to sending You away. But just like You promised, You came in to stay. I just had to pray. (Chorus) And Jesus said, Come to the water, stand by My side. I know you are thirsty, you won't be denied. I felt every teardrop when in darkness you cried and I long to remind you that for those tears I died. 2) Your goodness is so great, I can't understand; But, dear Lord, I know now that all this was planned. I know you're here now and always will be; Your love burst my chains and in You I'm free. But, Jesus why me? 3) Jesus, I give You my heart and my soul; I know that without You, I'll never be whole. Savior, You opened all the right doors, and I thank You and praise You from earth's humble shores. Take me, I'm Yours. COMMUNION BLESSING We Depart with Joy THE BENEDICTION (Sunday school students and teachers are dismissed to Sunday school during the sending song) SENDING SONG SENDING God of Grace and God of Glory (LBW #415) 1) God of grace and God of glory, On your people pour your pow r; Crown you ancient Church s..story; bring its bud to glorious flow r. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, For the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour. Grounded in faith Gathered in love Engaging the world with God s amazing grace Thanks be to God.
