Teach me to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for reward, save that of knowing that I do your will. We will celebrate and thank our Pastors for their ministry to St. Aloysius Parish on July 29th at noon. Paul will celebrate the weekend Masses (Aug. 4/5) at St. Aloysius and then begin a year-long sabbatical that will focus on some of the parishes in the southern part of the Jesuits West Province. Plenty of rest and exercise is anticipated along with a possibility of auditing some academic or special interest courses. During the sabbatical he will discern with the Jesuit Provincial a new assignment that would begin in the summer of Fr. Paul Cochran, SJ Peter celebrates a wedding here on August 4 and then will attend Novice Vows at Santa Clara on August 11. He will be in Ireland for a sabbatical break living with Jesuits in Dublin and Galway. He returns home in time for Christmas in Seattle with his family and begins his new assignment in January. The Provincial is missioning Peter to work in Native Ministry with the Coeur d Alene People, living at DeSmet, ID. Peter s uncle, Fr. Cornelius Byrne, SJ lived with the Coeur d Alene People for many years and is Fr. Peter Byrne, SJ buried in the tribal cemetery at DeSmet. Our new pastors will be Fr. Tom Lamanna, SJ and Fr. Jerry Graham, SJ. They will join us in August. We ve been thinking about you! Q&A sessions about the faith for all people and all backgrounds. These sessions are a safe place to explore your spirituality with people who care. If you ve been thinking about becoming a member of the Church, or you re simply interested in learning more about ism, we invite you to attend. Then, in the fall, if you re interested in continuing this journey of faith, you ll be welcomed into the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) or another Sacramental Preparation program depending on your personal journey. Our Q&A sessions will be Sundays, in the Parish Center Antonian Room, 9:45-10:45 between morning masses, dates are below. For questions, please contact Michele at mlassiter@dioceseofspokane.org July 22; August 19; September 16 Confirmation & First Eucharist We at St. Aloysius Parish are excited for your children in grades 2-5 to complete their Sacraments of Initiation, a journey of faith you began with them when you chose to Baptize them into the community of faith! This is a fun, age appropriate program designed to prepare your children for the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Classes will begin in September and will run in two groups; each group will meet on alternating Sundays. You can download the schedule and registration forms at: stalschurch.org. Programs are also available for teens and adults. 3 Justice Works: Social Ministry JUSTICE PRAYER/REFLECTION We must not forget that we celebrate the Eucharist in order to become Eucharistic men and women...partaking in the Eucharist commits us to others, especially to the poor, teaching us to pass from the flesh of Christ to the flesh of our brothers and sisters, in whom he waits to be recognized, served, honored and loved by us. Pope Francis, April 4, 2018 Building a Sister Community in El Salvador communities of faith should measure their prayer, education, and action by how they serve the life, dignity, and rights of the human person at home and abroad. A parish s catholicity is illustrated in its willingness to go beyond its own boundaries to extend the Gospel, serve those in need, and work for global justice and peace. (U.S. Bishops: Called to Global Solidarity: International Challenges for U.S. Parishes.) Why we/i keep going back to El Salvador We go to form relationship. We go to form community with people outside our borders. We go to BE and to listen...not to "do". We go to deepen our own relationship with God by observing their immense faith during continuous set-backs (Chamba). We go to experience the incredible hospitality shown in their people-centered world (Morena). We go to be inspired from their endless hope that God-is-with-us (Tomi). I go because I have friends there (Osmar). I go because, even though neither of us can speak each others' languages, a big smile (Rosie) and a warm hug (Vilma) conveys care and concern for one another. I go because Jesus is there (Mino).
