Attributed to Francis Bernadone, perhaps the most universally loved of Christian saints, who was born in Assisi, Italy, in 1181 or At the age of twenty-two, after a sudden illness that brought him almost to the point of death, he left his home and inheritance to follow an injunction that he felt he received from Christ himself: "Francis, go and rebuild my Church." Three great Franciscan orders quickly grew around the monks, nuns, and lay disciples who responded to his joyful example of universal love and selfless service. 6 From The Desk Of The Worthy Faithful Navigator: FN Monthly Newsletter February 2017 We had our first meeting of the calendar year it was very rewarding to be there, Sir Knight Harry Richardson receiving Honoree Life Membership Card, being PGK, PFN, Chartered member of St Andre Bessette and having known him for years it was great to be in the same Assembly with him once again, what an Honor for me. Sir Knight Kas Watroba receiving Sir Knight of the Month recognizing his continued dedication to our Assembly, we say Thank you. Our Marshall Paul Rozario was there to conduct our Flag carrying practice for the upcoming Flag Day celebrated on February 12 th at the 11 am mass please join us, Sir Knight Paul gave us an update on the District and he was there to also present us with the Special Olympic Flag so our Assembly members at the meeting could sign it. You will hear more about the flags as there is several of them that will be going around the province, this is all part of the 150 year celebration of this Great Nation. Our faithful Friar Rev Gerard Pilon as usual he led us in opening and closing prayers. Our faithful Captain Domenic Sanfilippo read off names for our Brothers who are sick also for Brother George Stewart and his family, we lost Bro. George who passed away last December 22, Yes, it was great to see a good turnout for our meeting and this was done in an hour... Membership, yes we need to focus on this topic not just for the 4 th degree but for the 3 rd as they are our future members, as Sir Knights we need to stand with them and work with them as a strong 4 th degree member is an active 3 rd degree member.

7 Honor Guard Calendar, well this is an area that we need your help. This calendar was developed to assist members with known when HG will take place. We need your attendance to insure that these are conducted with sufficient members. We are the visible and Patriotic part of the Knights of Columbus one of the main reasons to me a member of the 4 th degree. We post our Calendar in many areas Father Ellard hall bulletin board, in our newsletter, our web page and it is to all members and our Commanders will make contact with your as the date gets close. All this so that you should be well aware when HG are, please try to take part you could be the one that makes a difference whether or not HG will be completed. We also have upcoming HG competition so we will need to commit 8 members required this can be a lot of fun as we see and learn what other Assemblies skills are. We have a Facebook page, we now also have a web page (Thank You Brother Tino Sanfilippo) Check it out. Northern Zone District Drill competition Saturday May 06 St Mary s / Barrie (tentative, awaiting approval from Monsignor Lorensic). Sir Knights we need to practice (see drill competition agenda for details of requirements) prior to this but if you wish to be part of this please contact Commanders they will need to know ASAP. This is a great learning experience and educational as we observe other Assemblies conducting HG drills. The District Finals are at St Luke s on Saturday May from noon 3:30 pm.

9 HG May 28 th 2017 Confirmation Bishop Kirkpatrick will be here, St Mary s Collingwood 3 pm please arrive 2:30 pm, please mark your Calendar Exemplification 2017 June 3 rd at Sts. Peter Ukrainian Church Scarborough. As Sir Knights we should all attend when possible an exemplification to refresh ourselves but moreover to remind us of what we are. HG June 4 th 2017 Pentecost Sunday, St Patrick s Church Stayner confirmation celebrated by Bishop Kirkpatrick arrival time 3:30 pm starts at 4 pm SIR Knights join in the Rosary Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 2:30 pm, Honor Guard should be dressed in full Regalia or official uniform and ready at no later than 2pm we line up above the Papal alter Midland Ontario, please note that we are requested to be there, Bring your family so we can pray as a family should. There is also a noon for those wanting to participate in an Honour guard to be there by 11:00 am HG November 11 th 2017 Remembrance Day Parade please mark your calendar, this is our Patriotic duty to participate in this event please arrive Father Ellard Hall no later than 10 am quick review and we need to be on Parade by 10:30 am We will have Honor Guard practice starting at 7 pm each night prior to our general meeting. 10 Saint of the Month Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day February 11 On December , Pope Pius IX proclaimed the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in the apostolic constitution Ineffabilis Deus. A little more than three years later, on February , a young lady appeared to a sickly child of poor parents, 14 year old Bernadette Soubirous. This began a series of visions. During the apparition on March 25, the lady identified herself with the words: I am the Immaculate Conception and asked that a chapel be built there. At first ridiculed, questioned, and belittled by Church officials and other contemporaries, Soubirous insisted on her vision. During interrogations Bernadette gave an account of what occurred and what she saw. I came back towards the grotto and started taking off my stockings. I had hardly taken off the first stocking when I heard a sound like a gust of wind. Then I turned my head towards the meadow. I saw the trees quite still: I went on taking off my stockings. I heard the same sound again. As I raised my head to look at the grotto, I saw a lady dressed in white, wearing a white dress, a blue girdle and a yellow rose on each foot, the same color as the chain of her rosary; the beads of the rosary were white...from the niche, or rather the dark alcove behind it, came a dazzling light. Through that humble girl, Mary revitalized and continues to revitalize the faith of millions of people. People began to flock to Lourdes from other parts of France and from all over the world. In 1862 Church authorities confirmed the authenticity of the apparitions and authorized the cult of Our Lady of Lourdes for the diocese. The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes became worldwide in Lourdes has become a place of pilgrimage and healing, but even more of faith. Church authorities have recognized over 60 miraculous cures, although there have probably been many more. To people of faith this is not surprising. It is a continuation of Jesus healing miracles, now performed at the intercession of His mother. Some would say that the greater miracles are hidden. Many who visit Lourdes return home with renewed faith and a readiness to serve God in their needy brothers and sisters. The Church, faced with nationwide questions, decided to institute an investigative commission. On 18 January 1862, Bishop Laurence, the Bishop of Tarbes, declared: "We are inspired by the Commission comprising wise, holy, learned and experienced priests who questioned the child, studied the facts, examined everything and weighed all the evidence. We have also called on science, and we remain convinced that the Apparitions are supernatural and divine, and that by consequence, what Soubirous saw was the Most Blessed Virgin. Our convictions are based on the testimony of Soubirous, but above all on the things that have happened, things which can be nothing other than divine intervention".

11 There still may be people who doubt the apparitions of Lourdes. Perhaps the best that can be said to them are the words that introduce the film The Song of Bernadette: For those who believe in God, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explanation is possible.
