If you read the latest Columbia (2014), you would have read about the first Knights of Columbus councils in Kiev, Ukraine, and Lithuania on Nov. 6, Polish councils were established in Poland in We read about the marvellous and interesting ways the Knights have helped thousands of people throughout the world. We must continue to support our members and parishioners with greater hope, enthusiasm, and interest. The need is always there. We must do our part to supply support, prayer, hope and food from each member of our council this year. May 2014 be a year of prayer, service and greater fraternity, so that we may be a light to the World. Peace be with you, Pax Tecum Fr. The Pope, Bishops, priests, deacons, professed Nuns and all baptized Christians are called to be that light of faith, hope and love to all who cross our paths and in particular those in Catholic ministries and organizations. ~ 1 ~

2 Faithful Navigator s Message: The New Year has come in as a true Canadian winter: cold and snowy! I am writing this in front of my fireplace to try to stay warm (I hope that all our Sir Knights are able to stay warm & comfortable during the deep freeze), and that it doesn t stop you from coming out to support the many events going on at this time of year. At our next meeting February 6 th, our district Master, SK Frank Gallant will be attending and leading the officers through our renewal of obligations. Officers are reminded to wear their tuxedo and social baldric, and your officer s jewel. We will begin with our usual Mass and light meal prior to the meeting. Please keep an eye out for the schedule of confirmations, which are due to take place this month. As usual, we will be providing an honour guard for as many of the confirmations as possible. As I mentioned at our January meeting, 2014 will be a special year for our assembly in a couple of ways. First and most importantly our namesake, Blessed Pope John Paul II is due to be canonized as a saint later in the spring. Secondly, our assembly will be celebrating its fifth anniversary. In honour of these significant events, we would like to arrange the Annual Assembly Dinner for some time in May. To do this, we need a chairman for the event, and a committee to help set it up. Vivat Jesus, John Rynn, PGK Faithful Navigator Faithful Captain s Message: On January. 21 st, we had the annual send-off of the Valentines for Veterans at the Halton District School Board office. Sir Knight Tom O Brien our Assembly program coordinator plus representatives from Father Vincent Morgan and Bishop Reding Assemblies and myself were there with the HCDSB program coordinators as the Valentines were packaged and sent off to Veteran s Affairs in PEI. This year was another record year with approximately 4500 valentines filling 15 large boxes that were sent off. It is always great to see the many colourful valentines of all shapes and sizes and knowing they will put a smile on some veteran s face somewhere. Our colour guard did its usual impressive job at our recent Burlington Basket Ball Free throw on January 25th. It always adds so much to that event. There are several activities coming up this month; our Renewal of Obligations at our February 6th meeting, the Big Band Concert on Sunday February 9 th and the various confirmations. 4 On Tuesday January 21 st, SK S Jere Hartnett, Ron Gauthier, Manny Maliksi, and I met at the school board office to sort and pack Valentines. Made by the students of the Catholic schools in Halton Region. We packed sixteen boxes of Valentines that were then loaded on to a Purolator truck for shipment to PEI, and the Department of National Defence, they are then sent to the men and women serving around the world, and to the Hospitals. At this time we do not have an exact count of Valentine cards, but it will be more than the 4700 that the children made and we sent away last year. Now it was mentioned that Halton Region Schools are one of the biggest contributors to this event nationwide. A big Thanks has to go to Catherine Serifin and her staff at the school board office and the Director of Education Ms. Paula Dawson who dropped in and helped for a few minutes.
