Guided for more than a century by the vision of the Paulist Fathers, we are a diverse and welcoming community dedicated to serving the spiritual needs of the Loop, South Loop and the greater Chicago area. SECOND READING - Brothers and sisters, you are children of the light (1 Thessalonians 5:1-6). GOSPEL - To all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance (Matthew 25:14-30 [14-15, 19-21]). Do You Know a Parishioner Who is Homebound? The homebound are still members of our parish community as members of the Body of Christ. This union becomes real when our Eucharistic ministers take Holy Communion to them in the homes or at a nursing home. If you know of someone who is not able to get to church on a regular basis let us know ( ) and we will arrange for a minister to visit. Fr. Steve Petroff and the Eucharistic Ministry to the Homebound Team Do you have difficulty walking to the front of the church for communion? Please ask an usher to let the communion ministers know where you are so the ministers can bring communion to you. Receiving the Body of Christ is too important to miss out. The ministers do scan the congregation, so if you forget to let an usher know, put your hand up so they can see you. We want to accommodate you. 5 November 19, 2017: THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME CONGRESS URGED TO REMEMBER THE POOR AND STRENGTHEN FAMILIES WHEN CONSIDERING TAX REFORM As Congress considers tax reform, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has called for legislators to consider bedrock moral principles as they approach tax reform, and have articulated six moral principles that should guide lawmakers' decisions: Care for the poor; Strengthening families; Maintaining progressivity of the tax code; Raising adequate revenue for the common good; Avoiding cuts to poverty programs to finance tax reform; and Incentivizing charitable giving and development. The Bishops called on legislators to remember the poor and the common good when considering taxes, writing that "you are urged to recognize the critical obligation of creating a just framework aimed at the economic security of all people, especially the least of these." Believe it or not, Advent begins soon! To help us observe the seasons of Advent and Christmas, copies of the booklet Waiting in Joyful Hope are available from the basket on the table in the Commons. To allow everyone a chance to get a copy, please just take just one for your household. If you would like participate, please take an ornament from the tree, purchase the gift shown on the ornament and return the gift unwrapped with the ornament attached on or before December 11.
