1 St. John & St. Kilian Voice Two Communities One Vision To pray, serve, and love together in Christ Once Upon A Time: A Stewardship Parable Jesus knew how to tell a good story. Itʼs why people listened, and itʼs why some people left everything to follow him. Jesusʼ parables, or teaching stories, have a wide appeal because they touch into the experience of so many people. Itʼs that Once upon a time, when my grandfather was a young man, the priest at the familyʼs church purchased a used theater grandfatherʼs parents if some of their sons could make the trip and bring the now The priest directed them to place what they brought in the church basement, probably disappointed that the brothers hadnʼt they didnʼt have to make another trip to the Twin Cities. In the story, the brothers represent the people of the congregation. They are challenged to commit themselves to the future of their church. The pipe organ represents the many parts of what it means to be a harmonious family of faith. Each person unique. Each person important. All were given the chance to have a new life in the church, which seemed, at one time, to be a large task. The fire is the unexpected. It is part of bestlaid plans and efforts that do not always insure that things will end up the way that we thought they should. The fire turned out to be a new beginning: a new church building, a new organ, and the need for everyone to help rebuild their faith in God, one another, and the future. I tell you, if you are willing to open your heart in service to God and to the mission of establishing the Kingdom in your midst, you will come to know the importance of being involved, of going above and beyond, and a renewed sense of belonging, commitment, and sense of hope in the future. In my grandfatherʼs office, on his family farm in northeastern Wisconsin, there was a small, fire others, knowing that somehow itʼs about faithfulness and not necessarily immediate success.
