3 Dear Sisters and Brothers, As we gather together this weekend we celebrate Catechetical Sunday. The theme this year, Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ, fittingly corresponds to our gospel where Jesus inquires of His disciples, Whom do people say that I am? and then once again asking His Apostles, Who do YOU say that I am? * SUNDAY REFLECTIONS * how you accept Him as your Lord and Savior, and how you desire the same for them. Secondly, as they do gather for class they will come to know how our Lord has manifested His love and Mercy towards us through the Ages, stemming from His own desire to be in synch with our Journey of Faith each day, coming to know our ancestors who bore witness to Him.an ever enduring personal relationship. If we had been sitting around that camp fire when Jesus had asked the latter question, within the surrounding territory, I wonder how we would have answered the second question? This is where the rubber meets the road - yet for the second question Jesus is met with silence.fear.waiting wondering who will offer a witness..the deadening silence..yet the Spirit prompted someone to make the bold and passionate proclamation.and all eyes and ears would have focused upon Simon..upon hearing You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God!!! No lip service here folks just the Truth. How do we embrace this truth in 2018 with all the challenges that we, as a society and as a Church, are confronting each day? In our world today, as disciples of the Lord, we are each confronted time and time again to confess, not so much in words, but in action, even in moments of trial and confusion, who Jesus is and what this means for my individual family right here, right now in It all falls upon the manner in which we should nurture within our families, a personal relationship with Jesus the CHRIST. the MESSIAH...the LAMB OF GOD..YOUR SAVIOR..WHO THROUGH HIS LIFE, DEATH AND RESURRECTION HAS RE- DEEMED US FROM OUR SINS. IN AND THROUGH THE LIFE OF JESUS WE HAVE COME TO KNOW THE DEPTH OF THE FATHER S LOVE AND THROUGH THE BREATH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT A NEW LIFE THAT IS EXTRAORDINARY! As our young people return to faith formation this week, they will encounter Witnesses for Jesus Christ first and foremost through the example of you, their parents, of how you give witness of your own desire to nurture a personal relationship with Jesus, of Question is there another way.a more excellent way, to cultivate a personal relationship with Jesus? YUP you know it MASS aka CHURCH the Mass is the closest thing to heaven on earth where we, as disciples, celebrate our heritage, learn of how our ancestors gave witness - but also where we are nourished in the Blessed Sacrament so that we may give witness IN OUR OWN DAY. For we are one family and as family we journey together as a People of Faith, Disciples of the Lord! Please join me this day, Catechetical Sunday, in expressing a word of gratitude to our 9 parish catechists and parish coordinators who so genuinely give a witness to our young people through their own sharing of faith in word and deed. I would also like to share with you that on Monday, October 1, beginning at Saint Mary s, Closter in Fr. Roger Troy Hall, our Deanery (All 7 Parishes) will be having an informative / exploratory discussion on our Parish Faith Formation Ministries particularly on the topic of Family Based Religious Education vs. the traditional classroom model. Please know that parents are encouraged to attend this meeting with their 7 Pastors, DRE s, and Catechists to learn about this model and how it will benefit you and your individual families. May I also invite you to please view an informative video found on the home page of our parish website so that you may become more acquainted with FBRE. Any questions / thoughts please reach out. Peace & Blessings, Fr. Leo
