2 What a Great Surprise for Pastor's 60th Birthday!! Over 130 people to celebrate Pastor s birthday. The hall was decorated with balloons galore. The Fellowship Committee started the brunch serving appetizers which were homemade and purchased. A delicious punch of Lemonade, li Meade and marinade Basil leaves was a complete success! When Pastor arrived the caterer Kathy served a mound of pasta covered with sautéed spinach topped with chicken piccatta, a Greek salad and breadsticks. When all eating was over, Pastor cut his birthday cake and we all toasted him with champagne! The Church presented Pastor with a gift of $ He was totally surprised!! Happy, happy birthday!! Betty Pio Fellowship Chair Terry Weslock led us in prayer. Our President, Rick Ryland, served as the MC thanked Betty Pio for her leadership in planning this surprise. Happy Birthday Pastor Narring! 3 Faith Quilters We invite you to join us. The Faith Quilt Group meets each Tuesday at 9:00am. Our numbers are small, and we need your help to do the work of the Lord! If you can tie a knot, you can (Left) Some of our Faith Quilters! Nancy Winkleman, Marian Dick, Suzanna Thompson, Arlene Wells and Toni Chapman. They tie the knots on the quilts after the tops are cut and sewn and matting and back side are sewn together. (Above right) These quilts are ready to be shipped to Lutheran World Relief thanks to Jan and Arlene Wells. In the boxes are 63 quilts and now a dozen more will be boxed. 4 Since the fall of 2015 we have helped to support our adopted seminary student, Sam Fink. Sam is now in his final year at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. He and his family recently joined us in worship. He also attended our LWML meeting to personally thank the ladies for the support that we gave him. It was your participations at the Cookie Walks and Flea Market that enabled us to support him. On May 1 st he will receive his first call to a congregation and on May 15 th he will graduate with his Master of Divinity degree. Please continue to keep Sam and his family in your prayers! Congratulations to Angela Callahan for being selected as the Florida/Georgia District LWML Young Woman Developer! This is for a two-year term. 4

5 Ready, Set, Recycle This is a program established to raise funds for the 2019 LWML Convention at Birmingham, AL. Our newest member, Angela Callahan, volunteered to be our zone facilitator for the FL/GA District. We can assist her by donating the following items to be recycled. printer cartridges (not accepted-fax printing film, printing ribbons or toner tubes for copiers). inkjet printing cartridge (not accepted-epson or Canon BCI - they don t have metal print head. Laser jet and Inkjet cartridges Cell phones, digitals cameras, e-readers, tablets, laptops, and calculators LWML s annual FLEA MARKET will be on Friday March 1 from 4-6 with a $2.00 cover charge and no price reductions and March 2 from 8-1 with no cover charge and hourly specials. If you have items to be donated please bring them to Zalman Hall during the week of February th (during our 9am 1pm office hours only). Questions? 6 A huge thank you to everyone who helped to pack away the Christmas decoration at Faith on January 12. Teamwork is the key to living life in harmony so that we can do God s will. 7 Board of Fellowship Thank you for your generosity. The $239 proceeds from our Christmas Dinner was given to: The Center for Abuse and Rape Emergencies C.A.R.E. Lenten Suppers will begin on March 13th. 8 Board of Education Our Rich Christian Heritage Wednesdays 11am & 6:30pm You re invited to join us as we grow together in God s Word. Pull-up-a-chair for some lively discussion and attend a single session anytime as we ll talk about: What do people today think about Church? When are our works seen as good in God s sight? Should babies be baptized? What will the new creation be like? There is no charge for the class. However, if you d like a personal and updated copy of the new Catechism, please call our office to reserve your copy - cost is $15. This classes run through April 3rd (with a break on 3/27). Our Hope and Future - Monday Morning Woman s Bible Study You are invited to grow in your faith-life and in the Word of God as Pastor Narring, helps us discover a deeper and richer understanding of God s Word for our lives. This study is based on Jeremiah 29:11-12 where God says to us all, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Prosperity and Protection Individual sessions include: God s Plans Hope and A Future Call Upon the Name of the Lord 8

9 Welcome Rev. Dr. Peterson! On January 5 th and 6 th we celebrated Concordia University Weekend at Faith.! Rev. Dr. Roy Peterson from Concordia University Wisconsin shared God s Word and inspired us by his sermon: Love Unconquered and Uncommon. He also spoke about how, through messages of change and transformation, students are encouraged by God s mercy and grace to Membership - Associate and Residential If you would like to know more about Associate or Residential Membership at Faith Lutheran Church including: The work we are doing in the Name of Jesus How we seek to Open the Book and grow in and through God s Word And what we believe/teach/confess as Lutheran Christians then please take a moment and contact Pastor Narring to discuss these or other questions you may have. A new member information class is being formed in February. 9

10 Ken Johnson March 17, February 4, 2019 A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23 rd at 1pm at Faith. A brief interment service will immediately follow in our Memorial Garden. The Board of Missions will serve coffee and cake in our fellowship hall following the services. Help beautify the chancel area to the glory of God by ordering flowers for special occasions or in memory of loved ones. There are still a few openings. You may sign up on one line for one vase, or indicate on both lines that you would like to sponsor both vases for the weekend. One vase is $26, two are $52. Please notate on your check that your payment is for flowers. Name Tags We encourage everyone to wear their nametags to help us to know each other better! 12 Pilgrimage to the Holy Land Pastor & Susan Narring will be leading a group to the Holy Land departing on November 5, We would personally like to invite you to join this group of pilgrims. Before you make your decision, you will want to have more information, review the itinerary, and have an opportunity to ask questions. Please attend the Information Meeting on Sunday, February 24 th at 11:00am in Zalman Hall. Together we will review the highlights of the program and we will be happy to answer your questions.
