1 Growing God s Family Saint Mark Messenger Mission Statement Here at St. Mark s Lutheran Church and Preschool, we believe in Growing God s Family. You will see this mission statement on our bulletins, business cards, newsletter and other printed correspondence. New nametags are also available. Inside this issue: From the Pastor September 2017 March 2015 As you all know, I am a big football fan. In all fairness, many of you are as well. When this newsletter comes out, it will be the weekend of the beginning of the College Football Season and it will be less than a week until the start of the National Football League season. High school football is already in action. A new football season is about to kickoff. We are also having a Kickoff of sorts here at St. Mark. We are beginning our fall Sunday School program. We have already begun our new confirmation class for the year. Our Preschool and Mother s Day Out resumes classes September 5th. Lots of things here at the church are getting into gear for the fall. Recycling 2 Church Council Treasurer s Report 3 May God continue to guide us as and bless us as we kickoff another year of classes and stuff here at St. Mark. We have 4 different teams and each team only cleans once a month. Each team is made up of at least 2 families. We would like to add some more people on to our teams. This is a great way to give of your time to the church. On your assigned weekend you will clean either Friday or Saturday. We have a checklist that shows all the items that need to be done and on your team day you split up the jobs. When you go shopping simply pick up a little extra and bring it to drop in the basket! Our church refers people to the Hope Center when they call requesting assistance. Mite Box Collection Save your change/mites for the monthly LWML Mite Box Collection. Drop your mites in the giant mite box in the narthex. All money collected is used for missions projects/grants. Preschool Openings 3 s TTH or MWF Preschool open enrollment School is beginning September 5th. We still have a few openings for MWF or TTH in our 3 s room. Hours are 9:30 2:30 St.

However, because everyone has been steadily reading we changed our goal to 6K (6,000) chapters. You can read whatever chapters you like each week and then record them on the log sheets in the Narthex.

Hours are 9:30 2:30 St. Mark Lutheran Summer Reading Challenge 2017 This year we were attempting to read 3500 chapters of the Bible as a congregation in just one summer. However, because everyone has been steadily reading we changed our goal to 6K (6,000) chapters. You can read whatever chapters you like each week and then record them on the log sheets in the Narthex. There are prizes this year too! So far we have read over 5,490 chapters! This means we are about 92% to our new goal. Great job everyone! If we keep reading at this pace, we should achieve our goal easily. Don t forget to fill out the log sheets in the Narthex as you continue reading the Word. 5

P.A. Richard Wokoma visited us on August 13th. He explained his work in Africa and the dire need for funding. We were able to contribute over $4100 to his mission, due to the generosity of our congregation. 7
