3 More Benefits of Laughter One study found that when people watched a funny movie (as opposed to a stressful one), their blood vessels opened and their blood flowed more freely. Having a sense of humor is an indication of mental fitness, according to research. For the young: when toddlers were laughing, they learned new tasks more easily. For the older: learning ability as well as delayed recall improved in older adults when humor was in the mix. Even anticipating a laugh reduces stress hormones, so plan some funny into your week. Thoughts to Ponder I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it, and while our soldiers can stand and fight, I can stand and feed and nurse them. Clara Barton "Die when I may, I would like it to be said of me that I always pulled up a weed and planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow." Abraham Lincoln This Week in History For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us... Romans 15:4 July 9, 1877 The All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club begins its first lawn tennis tournament at Wimbledon, then an outer suburb of London. Twenty-one amateurs showed up to compete. Gentlemen s Singles was the only event held. Around 200 spectators paid to watch the final. 141 years later, this week the 132 nd Wimbledon Championships are underway, the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. Total attendance last year was 473,372 across 13 days, with millions more watching on ESPN (including your preacher J). Humor for Your Week A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22 Standing in the park, I was wondering why a Frisbee gets larger the closer it gets. Then it hit me. What lies at the bottom of the ocean and twitches? A nervous wreck. How much money does a pirate pay for corn? A buccaneer. Which country's capital has the fastestgrowing population? Ireland. Every day it's Dublin.

6 This 1921 Oldsmobile truck worked well for the Beverly Hillbillies as they headed west many years ago, but it won t work very well for our 36 campers, 8 sponsors, and 8 cooks (62 people TOTAL!) headed to Youth Quake in just 2 weeks July 27 th through August 3 rd. Our vehicle Ministry is seeking to borrow a ¾ ton truck and cargo trailer to haul tents, clothing totes, and sleeping bags for our crew. Can you help or do you know someone who might be able to help? Perhaps you can volunteer to drive your rig to Camp Como, in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, and join them for the week. First Christian Church will cover all your fuel costs. Please contact David Mezel, Lendon Blanchard, or Mike Bunton ASAP. And here s a quote by Elisabeth Elliott that Dru shared with me recently: Worship is not an experience. Worship is an act, and this takes discipline. We are to worship in spirit and in truth. Never mind about the feelings. We are to worship in spite of them. Amen!
