MITCHELL HAMILTON GRIFFITH of Napoleon is the son of Kenneth and Amanda (Gooding). Mitchell s Confirmation verse is: Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 LUCY MARIE JONES of Napoleon is the daughter of Robert and Kimberly (Griffith) Jones. She was born on December 5, 2003 and was baptized at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wauseon, Ohio on January 18, 2004 by Rev. Tom Lutz. Her sponsors are Martha Gebers, Janet Seedorf, and Doreen Jones. 2 You are Hereby Commanded to Love! Pastor s Message This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:12-13 KJV) Now get out there and love one another! Whoa! Now wait just one doggoned minute! What do you mean I m commanded to love? As we learned in Catechism, when we see that we are commanded to do something, then that is the Law! And we know from our human nature, that whenever we are commanded to do something, we do the polar opposite! We also learned that the Law cannot save us, only the Gospel can. So, it seams reasonable that it is also the Gospel, that is what motivates us to do anything, such as Love others. When Jesus commanded us to love, He wasn t merely asking us to love those who love us, that s pretty easy to do. No, Jesus is commanding us to love the unlovable! To sacrifice ourselves! To love those who hate you, misuse you, degrade you, talk against you. The command means you are to love sacrificially for your enemies! But that s hard! That s in word, impossible! Is it now? And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. (Luke 23:33 KJV) When Jesus commands us to love one another, He knows that is an impossible task, so He says, Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13 KJV) Jesus has given you an example of sacrificial love. He went to the cross for you. We know this as the Gospel, God doing for us what we cannot do. And now, because He has, we are able to love others, even with a sacrificial love. John in his first epistle says, We love him, because he first loved us (John 4:19 KJV) You learned in your Catechism that, the Holy Spirit calls you and keeps you in the faith through the Gospel. It is through the Gospel that the Spirit leads us to go out into the world and love others sacrificially! And when He does, you know that He will be leading you, guiding you to a love that is sacrificial. Thanks be to God that He will. In Jesus name, Amen. Pastor Martis

But, staying attached to the True Vine makes us productive branches who bear much fruit, including the fruit of sharing the Good News of Jesus with hearts that are afire for Him.
