2 As I finish the Summer 2015 edition of The Highlander, I am struck by all the opportunities. Opportunities for fellowship! All-Church Altoona Curve game and Saturday Friends Out at the home of Donna Anderson Opportunities for Spiritual growth! Take the Spiritual Gifts Survey online or join us for Summer Opportunities for fun! National Ice Cream Day and National Watermelon Day during the Fellowship Hour Opportunities for worship! Church in the Park on July 26th or our annual Worship at Gobbler s Knob on August 30th Opportunities for service! Sign-Ups are underway for the 2015 PCOP Mission Trip and the monthly Community Meal always needs help and so much more! I hope you ll join us! Sometimes the work of the church can really feel like work. Nowhere is this more evident than in our First Tuesday Community Meal ministry. Ovens making an already hot kitchen almost unbearable, steam soaking the clothes of the dishwashers, servers scooping up hot and hearty food faster and faster, and our waiters flitting back and forth. It is enough to exhaust even the most enthusiastic volunteer. Our meals take a lot of hard work and support from our members and friends. For everyone who might have wondered if all this hard work was making a difference, this is for you. I was out running errands and checking out from a store. The cashier looked behind me to confirm nobody was around and asked me, Aren t you the minister from the church with the community meals? I told her I was and then the cashier s eyes got a very serious and heartfelt look. I wanted to let you know What your church is doing is wonderful. I went through rough time recently. I have a full-time job but it wasn t enough. It meant to world to me to have those meals. I wanted to tell you the meals made a difference in my life. Well done, Good and Faithful servants. We are making a difference. What more could we ask for?
