Just in time for Spring Break! Let s hope for beautiful weather to enjoy outside activities and projects next week. We are all looking forward to the break whether to catch up on work at school or home and spend time with family. Let s start by celebrating at the St. Rose Parish Spring Festival Sunday! Remember it benefits both parish and school! Thank you to everyone who can help. A big thank you to teachers, staff, Hatch and all who came to the Look and Learn Tuesday evening. It was a great success informing what our school is about and why to come join us! Congratulations Edwin Vacek, our 2019 Distinguished Alumni for St. Rose School! Mr. Vacek was recognized along with all honorees in the diocese at a banquet in Victoria Monday evening. His wife, Dolores attended and received the award for him presented by Bishop Cahill. On Wednesday after mass Father Tim presented the award to Mr. Vacek in front of the St. Rose School family and parishioners. See the newsletter for detailed information and accomplishments of Mr. Vacek who has been a long time benefactor of St. Rose School, parish and community. His entire life he has been a great example of a faithful man, a patriot to his country, civic minded no matter where he lived and Catholic Education dear to his heart. It s been a busy week for teachers and students trying to get assignments all turned in and wrap up for the 3 rd nine weeks which ends today. We appreciate all of your parent support in helping check homework completion. The kindergarten enjoyed a Healthy High program at Blinn College Tuesday morning along with students from St. Michael Weimar. Donations toward the Incarnate Word Sisters Mission in Africa managed by Sister Rebecca will be collected during Holy Week (April 15-18). In addition to free will donations of any amount that week students may wear jeans for a $5 donation or free dress for a $10 donation. Join us for Stations of the Cross each Friday morning which are so meaningful with the 8 th grade leading and everyone being so reverent singing praise to our Lord. We are so blessed at St. Rose School to be able to incorporate all these faithful rituals and prayerful practices with our students and staff. We teach and learn to give our love, care, and prayers for each other during challenging times whether illness or struggle. May we all feel the love, peace, comfort, and strength of our Lord Jesus Christ, who suffered the greatest of all for our salvation. Amen. LUKE 9:22-25 (Bishop Robert Barron, Word On Fire, Lent Day reflections): Friends, our Gospel from Luke lays out Jesus conditions for discipleship: If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. How do we overcome pain? How do we attain joy? Not from a Stoic resignation, nor from a Buddhist negation of the self, nor from a Platonic contemplation of the eternal forms, but rather from the sacrifice of the self in love. Jesus is going to Jerusalem in order to give himself away, to sacrifice himself in love for the other and in this, he will become a source of life to others. Ronald Knox talked about the sign of the cross this way: the first two gestures form the letter I and the next two cross it out. That s what the cross of Jesus meant and means. The path of discipleship is the path of self-sacrificing love and that means the path of suffering. Reflect: How there is no authentic love without suffering? Think of examples in your own life. 2 Fundraiser Meal Please help support our 6th and 7th graders who are raising money to go to Washington D.C. in June They are selling dinner tickets for Wednesday April 3, The meal will consist of Grilled Chicken Breast, Rice, Green Beans & Dessert. Plates will be available for pick up in Schulenburg & Hallettsville. Contact one of the following SRS students for tickets: Meredith Magliolo, Mary Beth Krischke, Natalie Osina, Annie Galipp, Makena Kopecky, Claire Oeding. Their contact information was ed today. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the 11 th Annual Rock and Roll for the Red and White a huge success we made a profit of $34,124. A special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt and Mrs. Steinhauser for underwriting the cost of the band. Also, a special thank you to Joe Schindler for being the auctioneer and Eddie and Cynthia Fogleman for working the door and bar, along with several K.C. members. Finally a huge thank you to Laura & Troy Fogle & Eric & Stacy Oeding for making the entire event happen!
