2 A Great Age Anna a prophetess...was of a great age... And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem. Luke 2:36-38 In his book Nearing Home, Rev. Billy Graham wrote, Scripture is filled with examples of men and women whom God used late in life, often with great impact...men and women who refused to use old age as an excuse to ignore what God wanted them to do Many of the godly characters in Genesis Methuselah, Noah and Abraham did their best to work in their advanced years. Then there were others like Moses and Joshua were in their eighties when God called them to a new role. In the Gospel, the story of Christ begins with the aged couple, Zacharias and Elizabeth, who bore John the Baptist. But you see God can use all ages if we are willing. And don t forget the prophetess Anna in the temple in Luke 2. The Bible says she was of a great age What a Wonderful phrase! Anna was at least eighty four, perhaps older. But the Bible call it a great age It s great because the years help us mature in love, gentleness, thoughtfulness and wisdom. Sometimes, we have the accumulated experiences of a lifetime and a rich history in our walk with God. According to Luke 2:36, old age is a great age in God s sight. All we need to do is make the best of it or the most of it. You see God is looking for all ages to work for Him if we are will to give of ourselves. I trust that you will consider what you will do. 4 Did You Know??? Activity Calendar All Residents throughout the building are invited to attend all activities listed on the monthly Calendar, regardless of where they are located. If you require assistance simply ask one of our friendly staff members to guide you to your favourite programs. Euchre We are looking for more Euchre players to join our regular games on Wednesday afternoons at 1:45pm in the Auditorium. Light refreshments are served mid game. Come out and show us your cards. Pepper As with Euchre, we are looking for more pepper players to join in the regular pepper group on Friday afternoon in the 4-1 home area. If you re interested please attend a pepper game on Friday afternoons. Activity Calendar and Newsletter The monthly calendar and newsletter are now available online on our City of Windsor, Huron Lodge website. you will find the calendar and newsletter under the activity programs section of the website. Accomplishments We are looking for pictures or certificates of notable accomplishments of yours that we can display in the main lobby. The memorabilia will not be under lock and key so copies are preferred. We know what wonderful accomplishments many of you have achieved so we want to show them off. Please bring your framed copies to Mary s office on the fourth floor. Staff Moves Resident Services With the turn of the new calendar we will be welcoming back Mary Fitzgerald to her role as Activities and Entertainment Coordinator. Mark Murphy will be returning to his position as Adjuvant and Kitty Harris will be returning to the Nursing team. Thank you Kitty for filling in, you were a wonderful addition and excellent team member in the Resident Services department.

5 Resident Services News Happy New Year!! With the New Year upon us it is a wonderful time of year to reflect on all that we have and all the things we have accomplished. As 2016 comes to a close I want to thank all the wonderful residents, families and staff that I have had the opportunity to meet over this last year. Huron Lodge is an exceptional home and I am proud of the quality of care, programs and services that we provide to our residents. With the New Year upon us some new initiatives for the Resident Services Department include Saturday programming, programming on select holidays and the introduction of new recreation activities. Huron Lodge will also be welcoming two Social Service Worker Gerontology students who are completing their internships with the Resident Services team. Terri and Emmylia will be with the home from January 9-April 28. They will be interning in the resident home areas and alongside the Resident Services staff. Welcome to Terri and Emmylia. The New Year will also bring the retirement of Judy Muscedere. Judy has worked at Huron Lodge for over 36 years beginning her career in the Nursing department and then moving into the Resident Services department. For the last 5 years Judy has worked as the Volunteer Coordinator for Huron Lodge, securing hundreds of volunteers to help support the residents and the home. Judy s friendly smile and warm demeanour will be greatly missed throughout the home. Judy s last day at Huron Lodge will be January 27th so please stop by her office on the fourth floor to wish her well. Warmest Wishes, Amanda Caslick
