Several program materials are available in English and Spanish. For more information, contact the Parish Scouting Religious Awards Coordinator, Michelle Huber at or michelle@hubertree.com. SAFETY ISSUE As you come into the parking lot, please be aware of the safety signs and people moving through the roads and parking lots. The stop sign separating the two parking lots is causing concern as people are moving through it without stopping. That intersection has vehicle traffic coming from three directions and people walking through it on their way to Mass. We cherish each of you and want you to make it safely in to Mass, so please remember to stop at the sign and watch for people walking through our parking lot. 700 St. Mary

6 Rosary Leaders Each weekend there are many opportunities to lead the rosary before Mass. A step-by-step guide is available if you have never led the rosary before. Sign up is easy. From St. Mary s website, stmaryofsorrows.org, click the WebLinks tab, and then the Rosary Leader Sign Up. If you have questions, please call Mary McKay at , x112, or marym@stmaryofsorrows.org. Thank you to all who have been faithful volunteers in this service. We pray for the courage and conviction to tell and re-tell the story of Jesus' life, suffering, death and resurrection. ADULT FAITH FORMATION FORMED.org The Best Catholic Content All in one Place The Feast of the Visitation of Mary will be on May 31 st. Consider the joy with which she was greeted by her cousin and the beautiful prayer we were given from this meeting. Be inspired by St. Teresa of Kolkata in the 60-minute audio: Mary: Handmaid of the Lord. St. Teresa tells us that we, too, can do the will of God by saying "yes" to the Lord in the big and little things in our lives; nothing is too insignificant. Relics of Padre Pio visited the Diocese of Arlington last week. Learn more about the life of this modern-day saint by watching a movie available on FORMED. Choose between Padre Pio: Miracle Man (202 minutes) or Padre Pio: Between Heaven and Earth (182 minutes, dubbed). The Feast Day of St. Joan of Arc is on May 30 th. Seize the opportunity this year to read Joan of Arc by Mark Twain (available on FORMED under Inspirational Non-fiction). Mark Twain considered this his best and most important book, spending a dozen years researching the material and two more writing the story. Drawing on primary sources from both the English and the French, Twain created an historically accurate depiction of this young saint. He then used his great skills as a storyteller to bring to life this girl of deep faith who had the strength to address one king and lead an army into battle against another, and the grace to endure great suffering on behalf of the Lord. (If you prefer to read your books on paper, check out the Lighthouse Catholic Media kiosk to purchase a paperback copy.) Register on FORMED.org with the St. Mary of Sorrows parish code (348713). ST. MARY S PRESCHOOL St. Mary s Preschool Registration For School Year We still have openings in our Tuesday and Thursday morning 3-year-old and afternoon 4-year-old programs. Interested families need to call Miss Elena in the Preschool Office to make an appointment for a tour, RELIGIOUS EDUCATION K - 6 th RE Office Summer Schedule RE classes have concluded for this school year so the RE Office will be moving to its summer schedule: Monday-Thursday 8:00am 4:00pm or by appointment, aidaw@stmaryofsorrows.org, , x129. Registration for the School Year Registration for the school year continues. Please bring your completed registration materials to the Religious Education Office. Questions? Please contact Aida Willis, aidaw@stmaryofsorrows.org, , x129. Are You Being Called to Serve as a Catechist? We are in need of Catechists to serve our children. Teaching is a wonderful way to continue your formation in the Catholic faith and grow in your own spirituality. (Children of Catechists have priority in class assignments and their fees are waived.) Is God calling you to participate in this important ministry? If you have any questions about registering or volunteering, please contact Aida Willis, aidaw@stmaryofsorrows.org, , x129. FORMED for Families The Devil must rage on the feast of the Ascension. Because it celebrates the day the God-man rose in glory to enter Heaven and sit at the right hand of His Father and human nature, created lower than the angels, was lifted higher. It was exalted by the Incarnation and established in Heaven at the Ascension. The sacred Body as well as the Spirit of the Son of God ascended to Heaven, and there He prepares a place for us. Learn more about the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord as you share the faith with your family using The Year and Our Children by Mary Reed Newland. This book and more are available on FORMED.org. Register using St. Mary s code: VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Tracking Mary: Mysteries & Messages is the theme for the 2017 Vacation Bible School which will take place the week of July 24 th through 28 th. Please consider volunteering for VBS. We need a Faith Station Leader (to tell the stories of the apparitions), a Bible Station Leader (who will work with PreK-2nd graders going over the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary), a Snack Station Leader, and an Outdoor Activity Leader. Besides these, we will need many more people to make the week run smoothly. Please pray for those who have already volunteered and continue to pray to discern your role in this important ministry. If you have questions, need more information or are ready to volunteer, please contact Meghan Kuhn, the 2017 VBS Director (Meghan@princesstwinkletoes.com). Register by clicking the Parish Giving tab on the blue bar on St. Mary s website, and then clicking on Vacation Bible School. Volunteer and pay through this link, too! St. Mary

Lk 10:29-37), he condemned those who fail to help others in need, those who pass by on the other side (cf. Lk 10:31-32). By this example, he taught his listeners, and his disciples in particular, to stop and to help alleviate the sufferings of this world and the pain of our brothers and sisters, using whatever means are at hand, beginning with our own time, however busy we may be. Pope Francis Through the Samaritan Fund we are able to help men, women and children in need, regardless of their race, creed or national origin. What can you do? First, pray for those in need and for those who are dedicated to helping. Then, make a monetary donation to St. Mary s Samaritan Fund, so that we ll be able to continue responding as we have done, with prayer and financial assistance.
