7 This summer has been a busy one, and it s only beginning for the youth here at The Jacksboro Parish. The youth have been meeting every Tuesday this summer with the most recent being a Bring a Friend to youth day. We have also had time for fellowship and even had a water fun day up at the church. This past Friday we took 14 youth to Six Flags Over Texas for a day full of roller coasters and water rides. In the weeks to come we have some fun things planned for our youth including a Youth BBQ on July 3rd from 2-4 at the Youth Center. July 10th we will not have youth as we prepare to send 12 youth and 4 adults on our Youth Mission Trip to Monterey California. We will not have youth on July 17th and will start back on July 31st with Yuck Day! The youth then will be helping in telling the story of Daniel at Vacation Bible School July 24th-26th. We will close out the month of July with a trip to Unk s Lake on July 27th. 8 WILD WONDERFUL WEDNESDAYS The Parish s WWW program was a success again this year! This program is coordinated by Jayme Bright and takes 20 elementary age students on a different field trip every Wednesday in June. The venues were amazing this year! They visited Jellystone Park at Coyote Ranch Resort in Wichita Falls, Urban Air Trampoline Park and Kiwanis Park, both in Wichita Falls, the Ft. Worth Children s Museum, and Splash Kingdom water park in Hudson Oaks! Special thanks to our volunteers, who make these adventures possible! Dianna Stockdale drove the bus on ALL the trips, Chris Kahlmorgan filled in for a day while Jayme was on vacation, and Leah Davenport and Crystal Phariss (an MDO teacher) joined Jayme on a few trips to help corral kiddos. What a wonderful ministry for our community!

9 MDO Xtreme June was a whirlwind of activity as we focused on different children s books and authors. Our younger classes focused on several authors like Richard Scarry and Dr. Seuss, while our Elementary enrichment class focused on fables, legends, and myths. Crafts and art pieces were created throughout the month by our younger classes, while our older class did lots of science experiments. They created catapults, homemade ice cream, and volcano eruptions! They also explored several experiments with milk and other household items. We will continue children s literature in July, then close MDO during August. Our teachers return the last week in August for teacher training before we kick off the new school year in September! 10 A Word From Our Minister There was a unification committee? I didn t know there was a unification committee. What does a unification committee member do? These are all the questions we have been fielding in light of the newly established UNI- FICATION COMMITTEE. I want to outline what the work is for this body, and how you can be prayerfully lifting each member up. Back in January at our PARISH RETREAT (where you there??) we established a process under direction of the Parish Council to convene a Unification Committee. This group of representatives from both denominations and myself are tasked with a complete rewrite of administrative policies for The Parish. This group of individuals were selected carefully for their history within the church, their skills outside being a church member and for how they represent the larger body of The Parish. The unification committee consists of: JERRY MOWER, President of the Parish Council; CLINT STRICKLAND, Parish Treasurer; MITCHELL DAVENPORT, Clerk of the Presbyterian Session for First Presbyterian Church; MARTHA SALMON, Chair of the Memorial Christian Church Board and myself, as Senior Pastor. Our work will primarily be to examine other merged congregations in the Christian Church, (Disciples of Christ) and Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. for models of how they administratively function. Our two denominations have very different modes of bylaws, constitutions and leadership functions. The other main objective is to promote a general understanding of how we will nominate Elders and Deacons and what their role will be in our merged structure. This committee has begun its work and will be reporting out to the Parish Council in November. In December, a report will be given at our annual congregational meeting, and you will have plenty of time to respond, ask questions, etc. Might I ask you all to put this group on your routine prayer list? This is holy work, but it is H A R D work. We will be scouring legal precedents, bylaws, church constitutions, speaking with denominational reps and trying to capture the spirit of our unique identity in the process.
