3 Lords Acre Scholarship Recipient Written by Brian Davenport The Jacksboro Parish, which is a combined ministry of the Memorial Christian and the First Presbyterian Churches of Jacksboro, is proud to name its 2016 Lord s Acre Scholarship winner. The funds to provide for this scholarship are provided annually from the Parish s auction of homemade arts, crafts, and foods that occur in the fall. Proceeds from this auction have supported the church s efforts on local ministry and missions since This year s recipient is Ms. Yuridia Delgado. Yuridia Delgado, from Jacksboro High School, emerged as the top candidate for this award because of her actions during her high school career. She excelled as a student in her academics and was very involved in extracurricular activities. She been involved in FFA, FBLA, FCCLA, FCA, Spanish Club, and was a trainer for the Tiger and Tigerette athletic teams. Additionally, Yuridia has held a job for JISD and worked as a childcare provider. She has also been involved in a great deal of community service. Ms. Delgado was a Big for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Jacksboro. She also served the community with involvement in the Chamber of Commerce, the Ronald McDonald House, a Leukemia Cancer Fundraiser, Fall Fest, and the Canned Food Drive. Yuridia intends to attend Texas State University in the fall and pursue a degree in nursing. The Parish acknowledges your accomplishment and looks forward to your continued impact in the community. 4 STUDENT MINISTRY Submi ed by: Kris ne Tisinger Youth Sunday was a success on May 8 with 19 students participating in the service in some way. It was evident how hard they worked on the service, which had a combined theme of What the World Needs Now and Glow. A stunning sermon was delivered by high school junior Vanessa Garcia. Thanks to everyone who was involved in supporting the youth in creating and carrying out this enlightening worship experience. Our Wednesday night youth group wrapped up on May 18 with a party full of piñatas, Hungry Hungry Humans, and Nutella face painting. We will still have Sunday school throughout the summer and we will have a special youth event each month, like going to the drive-in theater in Graham, or spending the day at a water park. More information will be sent out as those events get closer. All youth who are entering 6 th grade in the fall are welcome to join our group on outings this summer. Wednesday night programming will start again with the first week of school in the fall. Twelve students and two brave adults will be headed to Las Vegas, NV on a mission trip from June We will be working mainly with Spirit Therapies Ranch during their summer camp for children with disabilities. We will also be donating decorated lunch bags to Ronald McDonald House, volunteering at a food bank that supplies food for children who don t have access to free lunches during summer, and crafting toys for children in the foster care & homeless shelter systems in Las Vegas. We look forward to sharing our experiences with FUMC and the Parish.

5 ECUADOR MISSION GROUP LUNCHEON The Ecuador Mission Group, which includes groups from The Parish and Casa de Oracion, will be hosting a Mexican buffet lunch after church on June 12th. Donations will be accepted for the projects that we will be doing on our trip in July. The two projects are working on a house and also building a shop at the school. There will also be to-go plates available if you are unable to stay for the lunch. Submitted by Tina Mower The Parish Men s Ministry is a place for all Christian men of the Jacksboro area to come together for fellowship, prayer and encouragement! We are dedicated to helping each other and the community of Jacksboro! We start cooking breakfast at 6:30am; eat at 7:00am. We enjoy intriguing conversations and moments of prayer. 6 WHAT: Marketplace AD WHEN: July VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL! WHO: Numerous volunteers from the Parish and FUMC. That means you!! We will need everyone s help to make this successful. WHERE: FUMC WHY: To get closer to Christ by learning about what it was like to live as He did in biblical times. HOW: With the help of the Parish and FUMC parishioners. We can t do it without you! Submitted by Cindy Hackley WILD WONDERFUL WEDNESDAYS! During June, children entering 1st through 6th grades are invited to participate in our WWW program. Each Wednesday, we will take 20 children and 4 adults on an exciting field trip. Cost is $20 per child/per day. This year s trips are: Urban Air & Kiwanis Park in Wichita Falls Ft. Worth Zoo Cinemark Theater & Jump for Joy in Wichita Falls Jellystone Park at Coyote Ranch Resort in Wichita Falls Boomtown Bay Aquatic Center in Burkburnett We still need a couple of adult volunteers to go with us! 7 MDO Xtreme June 2016 MDO Xtreme ended the year on a great note! I can t believe this year went by so fast! We graduated 9 children from the Pre-K and wish them much success in Kindergarten next year. The 3 year old class and Pre-K class performed a couple of their favorite songs at graduation and then the Pre-K students received their diplomas. Everyone celebrated with cookies, cupcakes, and punch afterwards and then left to begin their Summer! MDO is accepting registration forms for the school year. Classes will ill up fast, so stop by MDO to register. Call Lindsey at with any questions! MDO Xtreme will resume for Summer play days on Wednesdays only, starting June 1st. We are open 9-3pm during June and July and will be closed all of August. We are currently hiring to ill vacant positions for next school year. Stop by MDO for more details!

8 Summertime presents challenges for every church. People are very busy and mobile in the summer time and, sadly, some families will disengage from local church from Memorial Day Sunday until the beginning of school or even waiting until after Labor Day. All of these matters combine to become one enormous challenge for the leaders of a church. And frankly, this becomes a personal and spiritual challenge for me as I try to garner enthusiasm and keep the church train rolling along! I believe summertime is a great time to ask how we can all keep connected in the blow and go of our summer plans! Question 1: How Can We Keep Connected? REV. DR. SUZANNE CASTLE Senior Minister We all know people will be gone at the lake (lucky ducks!) but when you are in town, it is important and vital to reconnect with your church and her people. We miss you when you are not here, in fact, we aren t whole without you. While away, stay up-to-date by visiting our FACEBOOK Page and/or website. We will be sharing summer activities for all ages and hope for your participation. We will also be sharing in some great summer series in worship during the summer months! On June12th, we will start a series on stories from Mark that show us the unexpected kingdom of our God. Also, we will be participating with FUMC in a combined ALL-AGES experience called MARKETPLACE: Nazareth! Find a way to connect in July as we seek to share what life was like when Jesus was growing up! We need Centurion Soldiers, Marketplace Shopkeepers, Tribe leaders and Y O U to come and be a part! We will ALL be learning about life in biblical times. Reach out to some of our small group opportunities: Sunday School, Men s Breakfast and other gatherings, Soul Support for Women; or hey, let s start another one if you have an idea! Summer is great time to try something new on in your spiritual life! Question 2: How Can We Survive Financially? While I encourage people in their time away, the ministry of the church continues forward. Yes, every ministry does take dollars and cents to fund it even when the people are not here. During the summer, we have very specified ministries in the community, camps for students and children, and the list continues. As well, the normal ministries continue and we prepare for the fall. Even as you travel, please consider giving faithfully during the summertime. Besides your monetary gifts, come in and help us refresh our Christmas decorations (yes that is happening in August), help us clean out closets and storage items, help us spruce up our yard or something other! There are so many ways to give to the church to help us continue in ministry and we will all help you find a place to serve. I Am Confident in the life of THE PARISH! I know that you may be able to offer some even better suggestions than mine and I encourage dialogue! We can all learn from one another. Together, let s commit to praying for our church this summer!
