4 This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! Welcome: Today, being preparatory Sunday, we want to begin our week of preparation by focusing on God s requirement that we turn from all sin and dedicate our lives to our Savior, Jesus Christ. Next Sunday morning, we anticipate celebrating the Lord s Supper together. Please join us after this morning s service for refreshments and fellowship in our Fellowship Hall. Children aged 3-5 meet your teacher in the foyer during the offering this morning for Children s Church. ABOUT OUR MESSAGES Our sermons answering questions submitted by the congregation continue today. This morning, we answer a question with which many Christians struggle: What Does It Mean to Forgive Someone? Jesus will provide an answer in Matthew 18: In perfect relation with forgiveness and grace, this evening we look at another attribute of God: his justice. Jeremiah 12 answers the question, What Does the Justice of God Mean for Us? Next week s questions: AM--Why Do Christians Serve Outside the Church? PM What Does it Mean for Christians to Be Brave? Next week we will also celebrate communion together in morning worship. PRAYERS AND PRAISES The Classical Home Mission Committee asks for your prayers as we seek to plant two new churches. Pray for God s blessing on the preparations being made this year to open West Edge CRC in Sioux Falls in This month five members made an exploratory trip to Chamberlain/Oacoma in which they saw many opportunities to serve that community with an active ministry leading to a church plant in the near future. 5 OUR ANNOUNCEMENTS Pastor s Continuing Education: Tomorrow through Wednesday, Pastor Drew will be attending a Pastor s Conference in Minneapolis. He will return on Thursday. Men s Lunch Update: We will be meeting but NO lunch will be provided this week! Please join and take along your own lunch if needed. Fun and Fellowship is hosting an exciting night of bowling on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Platte Lanes beginning at 7 pm. Bowling fees will be covered. Come out and enjoy an evening with our church family!! (May the odds be ever in your favor!! Haha!) Needed: One more GEMS Bible counselor and One more GEMS badge counselor. Talk to Harriett as soon as possible. We hope to start Feb. 6 and finish March 20. Church Membership: Interested in becoming a member of Platte CRC? Are you a baptized member being led to make profession of faith? Pastor Drew is looking into leading a church membership course for you soon. Please talk with him or with any elder if you are interested! Visit to Ben and Amy Meyer: We are exploring the possibility of sending a group to Guadalajara, Mexico early this fall to connect with Rev. Ben and Amy Meyer, missionaries supported by our church through Resonate Global Mission. We hope to build our relationship with the Meyers and also complete some type of work project. If you re interested in this trip, there will be an initial information meeting Sunday, February 3 in the family room following morning worship. Contact Pastor Drew if you would like to attend this meeting and are unable! AREA ANNOUNCEMENTS The Junior and Senior High Community Youth Groups, in cooperation with the Platte Ministerial Association, have decided to seek a full-time youth pastor to lead our two youth groups. We will be having an informational meeting on February 10 at 4:00 pm at the Calvary Baptist Church, and all are invited to attend.

6 DCS Birthday Calendars have arrived! If you ordered a birthday calendar and it was not in your church mailbox please call the office at DCS Fellowship is taking orders for homemade double crust chicken pot pies, large or small. Contact Harriett Sybesma at or Pot pies will be made on Feb. 14. Classis Faith Formation Workshop-Research points to parents as the most significant religious influence in the faith lives of kids. What are we doing as churches to support faith formation in the home and what resources are out there for parents to help them find their own rhythm of talking about faith with their kids? Join us as we explore ways for churches to support parents and parents to support their kids in growing faith at home. The mini-workshop will be held on Sat, Feb 23, in the orchestra room at Sioux Center Christian School from 9:30-11:00 AM. First Reformed Church is organizing a bus trip to the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter in Kentucky on March If the bus is not filled by their own membership by Jan. 27 they will open it up to the larger Platte community. Spots are limited. Costs include travel expense, admission to the parks, and four nights in a hotel for approximately $400/ person based on double occupancy. For more info or to sign up contact FRC at Fresh Hope: Fresh Hope is a new ministry to Platte and the surrounding communities. It is a peer to peer led program that aims to help anyone who has or is currently dealing with a mental health concern (depression, anxiety, bipolar, etc) but this is not a crisis intervention group. It is a Christian-based program that partners with the medical and counseling fields to offer support, encouragement, and hope through a network of individuals who understand (because they have also felt those concerns personally.) Loved ones (spouse, parent, friend) are also invited to attend. The first night will meet at First Reformed Church on Feb. 4 with the group continuing to meet every 1st & 3rd Monday of the month. 7 New Hope Christian Camp & Retreat Center is hosting their first Women's Retreat Weekend, IF:Gathering 2019, on February 8-9!
