3 GOLDEN-AGERS, our next outing will be a work day at Freedom for Youth Ministries in beautiful Des Moines, Iowa! On Thursday, April 16, we will plan to leave at 8:00 a.m. from Calvary, have a chance to learn about this wonderful ministry, and then do age-appropriate work until 4:00 p.m. Please bring your own lunch from home, or there's a Burger King across the street if you would prefer. We should arrive home about 5:00 p.m., and then at 6:00 anyone who is able can meet at the back room of the Pizza Ranch for supper, fellowship, and discussing future plans. CALVARY S BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP will hold its last meeting of the season on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. With the help of Pastor Art we will be discussing The Shack by William Young. Everyone is responsible for finding their own copy of the book. Please come with suggestions for books to read next year. Everyone is welcome. DR. MIKE JOHNSON from Ascending Leaders will be coming to Calvary Church May 15 and 16. He will be here for a leadership development seminar that all are in invited to attend. This will be a worthwhile event for those who are interested in leadership development. There are brochures at the Welcome Center along with a signup sheet. That they will be protected from the Evil One in each area of their lives: spiritual, emotional, physical. (John 17:15) 5. 4 AREA 20 GEMS COUNSELORS are going to be having a garage sale on April 18 from 8-1 at the Pella Memorial Building. Please come and support your GEMS counselors. All proceeds will be used for counselors going to conference. PELLA CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL S annual Gathering of Friends banquet is scheduled for Saturday evening, April 18. This event consists of a catered meal in the Commons area followed by a program in the PCHS Vermeer Auditorium. It also serves as a significant fundraiser for the school. THE PELLA CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL CHAMBER CHOIR will be participating in the following church services between now and May 3. Covenant Reformed of Pella on April 19 at 6:30 p.m., Peoria CRC on April 26 at 6:00 p.m., and First CRC of Oskaloosa on May 3 at 6:00 p.m. THE GOSPEL SINGERS MALE CHORUS will be leading a Special Worship Time on Sunday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. The chorus will be presenting this year s musical message Sing From The Heart which includes a variety of praise and worship songs. A freewill offering will be received for the Gospel Singers Ministries. GRANDPARENTS DAY AT SULLY CHRISTIAN is scheduled for Monday, April 20. Grandparents may begin visiting classrooms at 9:00 a.m. and have lunch with their grandchildren at 11:30. At 1:00 the students will present their Spring Program. Doug Koopman worked in the U.S. Congress for 15 years as a staff person for a variety of individual members of Congress, congressional committees and leadership offices. RESURRECTION MEANS RECONCILIATION Jesus resurrection is the very foundation of Christianity. If Christ had never been raised from the dead, we d have no Christian religion. God s power was at work in Christ s death and resurrection. It was on the resurrection fact that the church was built, said New Testament scholar James Stewart. Paul understood that the resurrection was the bedrock of our Christian faith. If Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation has been in vain and your faith has been in vain, he wrote to the Corinthian church (1 Corinthians 15:14, NRSV). The apostle went on to say, If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins (verse 17). The resurrection proves that Jesus is Lord and Savior. Its authenticity means that by faith in Christ, we are reconciled with God. 4 Billy Graham said the risen Christ is the bridge between us and God. One of Christ s hands holds the hand of God; his other hand holds ours, said the evangelist.
