Christopher Kolentsas Young Adult Bible Study open to the ages of thirty and under every Wednesday evenings in the Huffington Center from 7:00 pm 8:00 pm. Please see schedule on calendar. We can do that by reading our bible daily and attending church services regularly. We learn the teachings of Christ and become closer to God. 5 PHILOPTOCHOS NEWS ANGEL TREE Thank you to all those who participated in donating to our Angel Tree this year. It was very successful with an overwhelming response. All the children from seven different families and their mothers were excited to receive a nice gift or gift card. We thank Barbara Kappos from the Los Angeles Women s Center of the LA Mission and Christina Peratsakis for chairing this project each year. THEOPHANY and VASILOPITA CELEBRATION THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 6 th Philoptochos looks forward to hosting this annual event in the Maniatakos Ballroom. Please join as we gather to celebrate Theophany and to bring in the New Year with the cutting of the Vasilopita by Father John. We will also have delicious homemade Vasilopita on each table. Maybe your piece will get the coin for good luck? FEBRUARY 24 TH Philoptochos event a premiere showing of the film, Faith, Hope & Love by Robert Krantz at Saint Sophia Cathedral to benefit the Girls Orphanage in Bakswar, India started by a Greek Orthodox nun and Metropolitan Nikitas. Our own Anna Yallourakis and her family made a moving documentary about this orphanage and the work they do to prevent human trafficking. PLEASE SAVE THE DATE. 4

6 PHILOPTOCHOS VIP NEWS HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! We had a wonderful Christmas luncheon. Even though we were missing a few people because of the trip to Israel with Fr. John, the attendance was great. The food was delicious as always. Thanks to Niko Begakis. The white table cloths and red poinsettias as center pieces gave the event a holiday feeling. Now let s welcome the New Year with Faith, Love, and Adventure to what it will bring us. The VIP board has some changes. We thank Faye Demetriou for her love, dedication and encouragement all the years that she has been part of the VIP board. Also, Mary Gallanis, as we thank her for her guidance. I would like to welcome the new members to the board Donna Mellos, Karla Gregg and Michele Panayiota Olivar. I know that they will be very beneficial to our organization. I am looking forward to working with all of our members in the new, fun and active new year. As always, the first event of the year is our famous Prizes and Surprises which will take place on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the Maniatakos Pavilion. More details to follow.
