McGivney Chair District Marshals: Roark Galloway, Frank Contreras Rene Trevino: State Message - Faith is present in our lives and needs to be as a Knight and as a Catholic. Need to embrace our Catholic Faith. Supreme has introduced Faith in Action- take our actions and men of prayer that we are men of action across the board. In the Faith in Action Guidebook, our programs are all listed, with 4 required programs- Spiritual Reflection (a retreat, even a half a day, get with your Chaplain). Consecration of the Holy Family - Mass said for the holy Family. Novena for Life - Easy, but must be done 9 times. Just do a rosary before each meeting, Officers and Business meeting. Community- Helping Hands - something to help the community. Safe Environment- Councils may not be compliant; double check! 2 men must be compliant (of the 4) at every event with youth in attendance: GK, Family, Community and Program Directors must be compliant with training. Resolutions- 2nd of Feb due to State. Membership- we re doing better, DD/Chapter Treasurer Michael Bordwell is #3 in the State. State Convention Fun event, Towne and Country Hotel for the last time. Under construction/demolition, rooms are limited. 10:42 AM: Spiritual Guidance : Fr. Grace OSA Father spoke about and read excerpts from the letter from the Supreme Knight regarding what has happened and is happening within our Church. KofC adheres to the tenants of the Catholic Church. Our primary commandment is to love our neighbor as ourselves- take that in- do we do that? Our love of others impels us to conduct our charitable activities, as a result of our faith. We do wonderful works, but what is our foundation, basis, driving force, intention? Numbers? No, not just notoriety, but for the practical impacts that affect lives- Disaster Relief, warms kids with coats, gives wheelchairs to help those to be mobile, and provides housing and medical care to people in Africa. Thanks Be to God for that. Page 2
3 Our love motivates us to stand with the church on Marriage and Family Life; we stand with the church because it stands over time, as a value to be forever held. Our position on life is not new, but must continually be defended. We have to work to offset Roe v. Wade at all times. Fr. Grace lauds all the work we do, and it must come from the basis of our foundation- our love of God and our Faith, or it means nothing. Do everything in our power to live as expected, in the center of Christ, in our Church and with the KofC, great Knights, Christians, lovers of Christ. 10:32 AM: Chapter Officer s Report: - Treasurer s Report: Michael Bordwell, Treasurer Previous Balance- $4, Deposits $ Several recent checks outstanding totaling $ For a final balance $4, Secretary s Report: Tom Davis, Secretary I have sent out a 3 rd notice for Chapter Per-Capita, aka Dues, as well as a first request for council funds to support our Chapter-led programs- Religious Appreciation Dinner, Widow s Luncheon, Priests Golf, Convention Hospitality Suite, and Chapter Charities. However, the KofC has become the go-to-agency or organization for Feed the Athletes, for the Special Olympics, which you ll hear about later. We would ask for an additional $50, from councils very soon since that event is coming soon (Feb. 2 nd ). Budget for this and/or consider your ID drive funds for this. - Trustees Report: (3yr: Jesse Ramirez, 2yr: Ken Morris, 1yr: Rene Trevino ) No report 10:35 AM: Featured Program Reports: Armando Mena Chapter Program s Chair Coats for kids- doing great- 39 to Father Joes from San Diego Council 1349, St. Pius Coats, 88 to Camp Pendleton from San Luis Rey 3162, St. Mary Star of the Sea 9111, St. Patricks Wheelchair drive- $ 4800 raised so far. 4 Membership Status SD has jumped from 17 th place to 13 th Place. 13% net (adds and drops), not great. 32 Councils with no new members (9 suspended councils, 1 still meeting (John Paul the Great)), but not bringing in members is hurting us. Strive for Star and if you don t hit it, you ll still be better off. Come up with a plan to strive for Star. Michael talked about membership drives as how we usually do our building of membership, but every Faith in Action Program is an opportunity to recruit. Ask 4 simple questions- Did you like what we did? Should we do it again? Can you help next time? Can you sign this? (Form 100/prospect card) His council can bring him in immediately (video is shown) because the men who do this know what must be asked to ensure he s a qualified candidate, and accepted at the next meeting.
