13 History of the Holy Angels Council Holy Angels Council had its beginning in early 1992, when at the request of then Associate Pastor Rev. John Mark Marrald with the permission of Pastor Rev.Fr. John Cloherty; Knight of Columbus District Deputy Al LaToracca and Holy Angels parishioners led by charter Grand Knight Vincent Pacis worked relentlessly to form a local council. The initial exemplification s into the first degree was held on May 24, 1992 with eleven candidates. On October 3, 1992, the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council issued Holy Angels Council No its charter. Coincidentally, the installation of the charter officers was also held on October 3, Forty charter members (30 new and 10 transfers) eagerly learned and transformed themselves into Knights of Columbus. The following year, in its first year of existence, Holy Angels Council with Grand Knight Vincent Pacis leadership achieved the coveted Star Council award. That started and remained an unbroken tradition by every Grand Knight that followed him that the council always strived for an award from the State and Supreme Councils. The council has become one of the best among the 692 councils in the state and was recognized with the California Best Service Program Award earned under the direction of Grand Knight Ruben Sy in 1998 and the California Best Council Award in 1999 with Grand Knight Ed Vocal at the helm. The awards kept coming every year with the Star Council Award or the Prestigious McGivney award or one of the service program awards in Community, Family, Youth, Culture of life, Church, and Council categories or recognition from the ID Drive, the Wheelchair Mission and other charity foundations supported by the council, The council had developed and provided many leaders for the Order. Special mention for this recognition is the election of PGK Sir Knight Vincent Pacis to State Deputy in , the highest elected office in the state. Later he was recognized and appointed by the Supreme Knight Carl Anderson to the prestigious position of Supreme Membership and Program Consultant for the Philippines, which is made up of four separate growing jurisdictions of the Order. Numerous Past Grand Knights have served as District Deputies, Chapter Presidents and are still active in many state standing committees that help run the Order in California. Among them is PGK Sir Knight Greg Marracq who also was a Former District Deputy, Past President of the St. Francis Chapter and currently the Chairman for the State Convention for next May 2018 a position that has put Holy Angels council in the fore front of the State Council activities this year. Such is the tradition of excellence that started 25 years ago here in Colma, California; the local council had produced more than 250 worthy Knights of Columbus and is still going strong and producing a second generation of Knights who were just young kids when the council was started.
