The beginning of a new year means we need to take into account what this year has brought to us. What are the positive things that happened during 2018? Make a list of what you can think of. It helps us to remember all that was part of the year that is passing away. We need to leave the wonderful, the good, the mediocre, the troubling and the bad in the past. As a nation we remember the shootings of innocent people in various parts of our country. We pray for them, their families and those who are grieving their death. We also need to remember the good people who have done some wonderful things. We thank the Lord for those who took people to safety, teachers who locked down a school to keep children from harm and others who brought life and peace into our world. We thank the fire fighters and all first responders who did their best to save lives, homes and all those in harm s way. We ask for blessings for our military women and men who serve our country throughout the world. We ask God to bless them for all they have done. Who was born this year? Who went home to God s kingdom? What positive events affected you or your family or friends? Who graduated, entered college, was hired for a new job? Begin writing down what you remember that happened and watch the page fill up with all kinds of great things. Now that you have taken into account 2018 you can begin to write the events that you hope for in Is a baby to be born, pray for a healthy and happy child. New work opportunities that will open to give a family member or yourself a new opportunity to make a better salary, develop a new skill or find the perfect fit for your personality. Take a chance on a lottery today with the positive hope of winning! Go on a trip to a place you have always wanted to see this year. Begin a new hobby you have always wanted to try and see how it affects you and your life. There is so much to see and do in this world it would be a shame not to take the time to see and experience more of it. Find new ways to serve those in need. Visit a relative or old friend you haven t seen in ages and catch up with life. Every year provides opportunities to experience something new, something you have wanted to do but never took the chance, read that book that has sat on the shelf for years unopened (the Bible), take 10 minutes each day to speak with God and tell him how life is going (prayer), research an aspect of life you have always wanted to know more about (our metabolism and why you are underweight or overweight). Ask God what you should do and follow His direction. When we honestly tell him what is in our hearts and on our minds He will respond to us. Learn to listen carefully, look fully at what you see, and be open to do what he points out to you. This will make 2019 a year of wonderful happenings. It is like riding a tandem bicycle with Jesus in the front seat steering and directing. Let Him be in control, hold onto the handles and travel to where He takes you, open to experience life in a new way. May each day of 2019 be a blessed one; Filled with God s presence. 6 Page 8 December 30, 2018 Knights of Columbus will be hosting a pancake breakfast on Sunday, January 6 th after the 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Masses. They will be serving pancakes, eggs, waffles and more for a suggested donation of $6 per plate. Our Lady of Sorrows Rosary Makers will meet on the 2 nd Tuesday, January 8 th in the KDC 6:00-8:00 p.m. Rosary Makers touch hearts with prayer, inspiring suffering souls helps make a difference in lives all over the world. Thank you! Taize Prayer will be held here at St. Thomas the Apostle on Monday, January 14 th at 7:00 p.m. It is an hour of interfaith prayer with our fellow Christians to build up our community. We are pleased to welcome members of All Saints Episcopal Church to our gathering. Senior Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, January 16 th in the Parish Hall. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. and lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. We will be serving Chicken. We look forward to seeing with you! Happy New Year 2018 DDF Update Thank you to the 283 families who have donated $137,584 to date. So far, $42,684 is coming back to our Parish. Did you make a pledge to the DDF this year? December 31 st is the last day to turn in donations for 2018! We still have almost $8,000 in outstanding pledges. Join us as we pray the rosary every weekday after 8:00 a.m. Mass / Communion Service. Our next Adoration will be held on Friday, January 18 th 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Please enter through the parish office door. Anointing of the Sick is held on the third Saturday of every month at 4:00 p.m. in the church. The next service will be on Saturday, January 19 th. If you would like an anointing for someone who is home bound (formerly known as Last Rites ), please do not wait until the last minute.
