Prayer Shawls Needed for Victims of the Borderline Shooting Following the Borderline shooting, Jessica, a 19 year old survivor, was offered an ASC prayer shawl. She told us that the shawl has helped her more than she could have imagined. Jessica has asked us to offer the same prayer shawl gift to the families of those who were killed, and to those who were injured or witnessed the shooting. We are inviting all who knit or crochet to join the efforts of our prayer shawl ministry to meet this need. Shawls are needed by January 12 and can be left in the church office. Join others in a safe environment to explore ways of coping and healing. The group will be led by Ann Horton, and will meet on Mondays, p.m., for 12 sessions beginning on Jan. 7. The Interfaith Study Group presents Standing Together: The Joys and Challenges of Interfaith Community Building Sunday, Jan. 13, 5:00 7:30 p.m., at the Islamic Center of Southern California, 434 S. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles. Led by the Rev. Sandra (Sandy) Olewine, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Pasadena. She is known as an inspired preacher, writer and teacher. Volunteers will be sent in teams of 2 3 to an assigned zone on the night of Jan. 22 (8 10 p.m.) & the morning of Jan. 23 (6 8 a.m.). The same teams go out both times. Transformational Journey to El Salvador Dive deep into the politics and culture of El Salvador by serving as an international observer for the upcoming presidential election. Find out how to make a difference in the life of a Child in Foster Care Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers make a difference in the lives of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. CASA volunteers receive special training and are appointed by a judge to advocate on behalf of a child in foster care in both the courtroom and the community, with often life-changing results. The Diocese of Los Angeles will Hold its Annual Martin Luther King Jr., Day Celebration at All Saints Sunday, January 20 at 3:00 p.m. in the Church. Featuring a keynote address by Devon Carbado, associate vice chancellor at UCLA and a professor at the university s school of law. His expertise includes constitutional criminal procedure, constitutional law, and critical race theory. His scholarship appears in law reviews at UCLA, Berkeley, Harvard, Michigan, Texas, Cornell, and Yale, among other places.
