2 Marathon Sunday, January 20 Runners in the Chevron Houston Marathon may not be running by St. Martin s, but your drive to church may require a few extra twists and turns on the following streets: Eastbound Woodway Drive traffic (west of Chimney Rock) will be forced to turn south on Chimney Rock. Eastbound traffic on Memorial Drive (west of Chimney Rock) will be forced to go north on Chimney Rock. While no lunch will be offered on Marathon Sunday, you will not have to run, or walk, far for the free breakfast that will be served 7:30 10 a.m. in Café St. Martin s. She was a marketing executive for more than a decade in corporate America before discovering her call to ministry. 3 Guest Preacher The Rev. Dr. Mark Anschutz Sunday, January 27 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The Church The Rev. Dr. Mark Anschutz is a third generation Episcopal priest who has spent more than 30 years as the rector at churches in Massachusetts, Virginia, New York and Texas. The Rev. Dr. Anschutz received his BA from Drury College, MST from Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, Doctor of Ministry from Andover- Newton Theological Seminary and honorary Doctor of Divinity from Sewanee: The University of the South. He has been deeply involved in several initiatives to aid the Episcopal Church in raising up young and gifted persons for ordained ministry and been active in the greater church s ministry to those suffering from chemical addictions. The Rev. Dr. Anschutz is the editor/author of From the Rector, a compilation of prayers, and serves as a member of the Chapter of The Washington National Cathedral. 66 th Annual PARISH MEETING Sunday, January 27 10:15 a.m. Bagby Parish Hall Parishioners are invited to attend the Annual Parish Meeting to learn about progress in the preceding year and plans for Sunday School for adults will not be offered on this Sunday so that all will have the opportunity to attend. 5 New Student Ministries High school Mission trip Louisiana Saturday Friday, June 8 14 Cost: $600 (deposit of $150 at time of registration) Register online at bit.ly/highschoolneworleans2019 Registration deadline: Wednesday, May 1 Our high school students can join us for a trip to New Orleans, where we will be staying at Molly s House, a missions house owned by Trinity Episcopal Church. We will work with Jericho Road, an Episcopal urban development housing initiative for neighborhood rejuvenation, as well as Trinity s Mobile Loaves & Fishes project, where we will assist with feeding the homeless population of that community. Student Ministries Monday Friday, June Cost: $320 (deposit of $75 at time of registration) Register online by Wednesday, May 1 at bit.ly/middleschoolaustin2019 Middle school students will travel to Austin with Student Ministries to primarily serve the homeless population by partnering with local organizations, such as Community First! Village. Students will stay at First United Methodist Church of Austin while learning and exploring parts of the city, and growing in understanding and compassion for the homeless. 7 OUTREACH Tour DePelchin Children s Center Thursday, January 24 1:30 2:30 p.m Memorial Drive Join us to visit DePelchin and learn about children who are at risk of entering or are already in the child welfare system and how, with the help of the community, DePelchin is creating a brighter tomorrow for them and their families. Help at Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) Work Day Saturday, January 26 9 a.m. noon 3434 Branard Street Join us to organize and distribute food and clothing at CCSC Emergency Services. CCSC assists the poor, hungry, disabled and otherwise needy. They also provide job training and school vision screening. Serve Valentine s Dinner at Bo s Place Monday, February 4 5:30 7 p.m Buffalo Speedway Join us to serve dinner at Bo s Place. We will organize the food, decorate the tables and then serve! After the Bo s community is finished, we will clean up. Please wear your Outreach t-shirts. Navigating the Teenage Brain Wednesday, January 30 6:30 7:30 p.m. Have you ever wondered why teens make the decisions they do? This presentation will outline how brain development and stress play a major role in the behaviors we see in our children as they grow and develop. Parents will leave with a clear understanding of their child's development and what they can do to foster healthy growth. Understanding Borderline Personality Disorder Wednesday, February 6 Noon 1 p.m. A diagnosis of borderline personality disorder not only impacts the individual, but also their family and friends. When loved ones understand the disorder and also learn skills to help themselves cope effectively, the prognosis is improved. In this presentation, we will discuss the symptoms of the disorder in terms of some of the latest research about under controlled and over controlled temperaments. Lunch and Learn: The Well Mom Wednesday, February 20 Noon 1 p.m. This presentation includes an overview of common maternal mental health issues such as postpartum depression and anxiety, their risk factors and prevention methods. Focus is on self-care, building support systems and seeking professional care when needed. Registration is required.
