Hearts full of grace and souls generated by love. MLK My hope is for us to cultivate an environment of spiritual friendship that includes love, laughter, and light. Through Word and Sacrament of Holy Communion we connect as a community of faith and friendship. I look forward to getting to know each of you in the days ahead, not only as your pastor but your friend as well. A friend will walk with you even in the shadow of your life; your deepest fears and grandest joys. A Friend with a Soul with grace will love you and allows you to

2 regress with dignity from time to time. A friend is someone we listen to which helps us to find them from time to time. We are a part of the ground we walk on. We are shaped by the landscapes of creation as much as we are shaped by the landscapes of our soul friends. To know ourselves as loved by otherness including God as holy other, transcendence, and friend, which enables friendship of intimacy, in sharing our soul with another. A true friend loves us into being our true self. I remember hiking through the woods and climbing mountains, there was a certain kind of shadow that was pervasive throughout the landscape of my soul, I felt like something was about to happen, but I didn t know what. I felt lost and disconnected. It was dark and my sense of direction was disoriented, and then, I heard a metaphorical voice, not exactly in human terms, but clear and distinct, saying, Come up higher. As I climbed higher through the clouds I gained a new perspective as I looked back over the years, and then it happened; I was standing in the presence of the future. In that moment my soul was no longer linked to my past but rather I was set free to become my true self in the presence of the holy other and transcendence. In that moment I entrusted myself to the holy other for my past, present, and entire future. Into the heart of God I placed my friends and family and released them to become their true self. We are embarking on a new beginning of a life that is worth living through friendship that enables discovery of what our purpose for being together as we stand in the presence of the future. Come higher with hearts full of grace and our souls generated by love. Your new friend and pastor, Pastor Ken Macklin Recipes Wanted Dig out that old family file of recipes and bring us one or two maybe even three. We think it is time for a new Tracyton United Methodist Cookbook. Add a story about a time the dish was served, or who in the family liked it most, a picture of yourself or the family member or friend who gave you the recipe would be great as well. Let s add some history and fun to go along with the sharing of food and hospitality. This will be my last shout out for recipes...i am hoping to get going on this project soon...i hope you and your family will be represented in this cookbook, so much history is passed down in our food and in how we prepare it. 4 Three ways Tracyton UMC helps climb the mountain of local hunger YTD Food Bank Totals - 52 pounds of food and $80 Food Bank Sunday We would like to bring back the focus of our first Sunday of the month being FOOD BANK SUNDAY. There are so many people who are just not able to make it thru the month on whatever their income is and they need those foodbanks just to survive. Can you help by bringing in a few cans or boxes of nonperishable food to share or mark a financial donation Food Bank. Friday August 3rd is the first Friday of the month. We will be taking a hot meal over to the youth at Coffee Oasis. We are hoping to make Mexican and sides for the youth. If you would like to help defray the cost by making a donation please mark it Coffee Oasis. If you would like to help prepare the meal we meet here around 3:00pm. We would love to have you join us! From the new Coffee Oasis Center Supervisor in Bremerton Kelly Sanchez We are kicking off summer a little late (but not really for Washington, right?) and are planning a BBQ for our youth August 1st at Evergreen Park. We are in need of some provisions in order to make that happen, All of you do such a fantastic job providing meals for the youth, we are ever so grateful! Below is the list of needs and if you would like to help us out, just "sign up" for the listed item. We will confirm the week prior and items can be dropped off days before or at the park. Again, we appreciate all of your time, attention and delicious meals you provide for the youth. 5 Invitation From Port Orchard We have received an invitation from Port Orchard UMC to join in their 130th Anniversary Year Celebration hymn sing/concert on October 21st. Anyone who has choral experience are welcome to join in the mass choir. In late August they will send a list of hymns and the two or three mass choir numbers. These anthems will be available at JW Pepper for purchase (about $2 each) and many have recordings on the Pepper website that singers can rehearse along with. Also the choir regulary meets on Thursday evening at 7:30 from September through June. If you would like to rehearse those numbers with them you are welcome to join for rehearsal. They will send exact dates in the fall. Please let us know if you are interested so we can pass the information along to Jeff Mitchell, Music Director at Port Orchard UMC

6 THE MASTER'S CARD By now you have probably seen the catchy television commercials for Master- Card. They start by identifying some things that people can buy with their MasterCard, then show a moment that is priceless and end by saying, "There are some things money can't buy, for everything else there's MasterCard." For example, in one such commercial there is a man and his young son headed to the baseball park. The commercial shows the dad buying his son a hot dog and you hear the words, "Hot dog at the big league game...$3.00." The next scene shows the dad buying a game program and the words, "Program...$6.00." Then, one of those large, orange hands with the fingers forming a #1 is shown and you hear something like, "Large, orange hand...$15.00." The commercial finishes by showing the father explaining some important aspect of the game to his son, who is listening intently as he looks up at his father with excitement in his eyes, "Meaningful conversation between a father and a son... priceless." "There are some things money can't buy, for everything else there's Master- Card." Friends, I'm not unlike those agencies promoting their favorite credit card. I'm here to advertise. You see, my life is a commercial for others to see. I'm a card carrying representative for the Master's Card. That's right, the MASTER'S CARD. Let me tell you about it.
